Middle School Student Allegedly Checked Out of Class, Raped
The Bossier Parish Sheriff's investigators say an 18-year-old male checked a ten-year-old boy out of the boy's middle school and sexually assaulted him. Karl Gilliard, 18, 100 block of Covington, was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of aggravated rape and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Bossier Sheriff's detectives allege Gilliard checked the boy out of Benton Middle School, had sex with him, and returned him to school.
The boy's guardians became suspicious when he came home with twenty to thirty dollars in his pocket on several occasions, investigators said. Bossier Parish School Superintende
nt Ken Kruitoff says records show Gilliard was allowed to check
the boy out of school on three separate occasions this school year. Kruitoff says school workers told him they received a phone call indicating it was acceptable to allow Gilliard to check the boy out of class. Kruitoff says district policy requires schools to have written permission from a student's parents before allowing anyone besides legal guardians to check a student out of school. Kruitoff says, in light of this incident, he has reiterated this policy to all schools in the district.
