The Casa Grande Police Department has arrested 18-year-old Terrance Xavier Santistevan in connection with the double homicide of 17-year-old Danielle Murrieta and 18-year-old Leslie Cota, which occurred on April 24th at the Sonoran Apartments in Casa Grande, Arizona.

According to the Casa Grande Police Department, detectives developed significant leads and followed up on a substantial number of tips provided by community members and partnering law enforcement agencies. During this investigation, they discovered that Santistevan was on scene the night of the shooting and was in possession of the 2006 Chrysler 300 believed to be involved. Additionally, it was recently discovered that Santistevan fled to Texas.

Casa Grande detectives collaborated with the United States Marshal Service and the Pflugerville Police Department to locate Santistevan in Pflugerville, Texas. They took him into custody on Saturday, April 30, 2022, without incident.
Santistevan is currently being held in the Travis County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, pending extradition to Arizona.

Charges of First-Degree Murder (X2) will be forwarded to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office for review. Although there are many who are assisting in this complex investigation, the Casa Grande Police Department would like to recognize the U.S. Marshal Service, the Pflugerville Police Department, and the many citizens for their collaborative effort. This remains an ongoing investigation.

“I am extremely proud of the teamwork exhibited by members of our department and our law enforcement partners. Our detectives and other members of our department worked together around the clock to develop leads and simultaneously follow up on numerous tips presented during this investigation,” said Casa Grande Police Chief Mark McCrory. “This resulted in three members of our department traveling to Texas and assisting in the apprehension of Terrance Santistevan. I would like to thank members of the victim’s families and our city leadership for not engaging in the social media frenzy involving this case and having the faith to allow our detectives to do their job. Although this is a major piece of the investigation, there is still a lot of work to be done to prepare the best possible case for prosecution.”

CGPD detectives continue to search for Santistevan’s 2006 Silver Chrysler 300, which was bearing Arizona license plate 9DA2MG. They are asking the public to continue to forward any relevant information regarding this investigation, including the vehicle’s whereabouts, to Detective T. Ellsworth at Tellsworth@casagrandeaz.gov, (520) 421-8711 ext. 6294, or report anonymously to Silent Witness at (520) 836-2100.

CASA GRANDE, AZ — Police are investigating a shooting in Casa Grande that left two people dead.
At about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a call of shots fired at the Sonoran Apartments, on Pottebaum Avenue.
When Casa Grande police officers arrived people were giving aid to a victim inside of a car. Police say she had an unknown number of gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as 18-year-old Leslie Cota.
A second victim, a 17-year-old girl identified by family as Danielle Murrieta, was located directly behind the vehicle and also had an unknown number of gunshot wounds. She was flown to a Valley hospital where she died, police said.
There is no description of the suspect(s) at this time.

"Please come forward, tell what you know. Not just for my daughter, but for the young lady that also passed because their family deserves answers as much as we do," said Janie Murrieta, Danielle's mother. "I'm numb. I don't understand why any of this could happen. She had a beautiful heart inside and out."
After interviewing witnesses, detectives believe a silver/gray newer model Chrysler 300 was involved and may have been driven by the suspect or served as a getaway car. The car was said to have a tinted windshield, stock chrome rims and minor damage to the driver's side, such as scuff marks.
Nearly 30 9mm casings were located near the victim's vehicle, detectives said.
A motive remains unclear and it’s also unknown if the two victims were the intended target.
The investigation remains ongoing.
If you have any information contact Detective T. Ellsworth at Tellsworth@casagrandeaz.gov or (520) 421-8711 ext. 6294. You can also contact Silent Witness to remain anonymous.

CASA GRANDE — Today the families of two Casa Grande teens are feeling relief after a suspect was arrested for the deaths of their loved ones Saturday night.

It was one week ago Sunday when 17-year-old Danielle Murrieta and 18-year-old Leslie Cota were shot multiple times.
"It's been a long road and we all understand it's going to take a long time before any of us feels any better," said Leslie's cousin, Daniel Alivez.
He knows time will help, but it won’t bring back Cota.

"My cousin, Leslie, she was really down to earth," said Alivez. "She was anything for a laugh she was just this wholehearted person."
Last Sunday police arrived the Sonoran Apartments, where Daniel said his cousin was living with her boyfriend.
Cota died at the scene, Murrieta was airlifted but later died at the hospital.
"She was beautiful inside and out, not just on the outside but she had a beautiful heart," said Danielle's mom, Janie Murrieta.
The shooting devastated the two families, as detectives searched for the shooter.
"There is some relief, you know, this guy is off the streets," said Alivez.
After days of gathering tips, police arrested 18-year-old Terreance Santistevan on Saturday.
They tracked him all the way to a city just 19 miles north of Austin, Texas.
Police say they’re pursuing murder charges and waiting for the suspect to be extradited back to Arizona.
"We have so many questions, but the good thing is he is where he belongs and hopefully one day we will get those answers," said Alivez.
As both families wait and grieve, the community came together to organize a fundraiser Sunday at Hideout Steakhouse.
Danielle and her mom both worked at the restaurant, and the owner told ABC15 the staff has struggled.
"I told all the staff we couldn't change anything, but we could step-up and understand and realize a little bit about the closeness of the family community," said Hideout owner, Todd Gillespie.
People pre-ordered over a thousand meals Sunday, donated food, and even came by Friday and Saturday when the restaurant shared part of their daily proceeds to the families.
"I know that it's not going to heal any pain or suffering, but in some way this what we can do to pay it forward," said Gillespie.
Funeral arrangements have been set for both teens.
A viewing for Danielle is planned on May 2 from 4-7 p.m. at J. Warren Funeral Services in Casa Grande, AZ. A funeral is scheduled for May 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Passion Church also in Casa Grande.
Cota's family has a visitation set for May 5 at 4:00 pm. at Valley Chapel in Eloy, AZ. Rosary and Mass is scheduled for May 6 at 10:00 a.m at St. Helen of the Cross, also in Eloy.
If anyone still wants to donate, they can call or visit Hideout Steakhouse in Casa Grande.
