'Battersea Beast' rapist jailed for life after attack makes freedom bid

A serial rapist jailed for life after a sick knifepoint attack is *making a bid to be free.
Edward Bartley is due before the Parole Board tomorrow.
The 59-year-old carried out the assault after being released from a 20-year term for a campaign of terror against women.
Bartley was jailed in 1992 for the rapes.
He was freed in 2004 but later attacked a 19-year-old in South London.
He was given life with at least 12 years in 2008, making him now eligible for parole.
Bartley was dubbed the Battersea Beast as he spent years prowling the streets of the South West London area hunting for victims to attack.
There are fears he may return to the capital, where some of the women still live. A source close to the case said: “Bartley is pure evil. How can it be safe to let him out to offend over and again?”
