2 arrested in human trafficking investigation

A man and woman face state human trafficking and federal Mann Act charges after a raid on a Gary apartment.
Vondell B. Henry, 45, and Ashley Ann Friske, 26, both of Gary, were arrested by Lake County Sheriff's Department officers around 8 a.m. Wednesday in an apartment in the 3500 block of Washington Street in the city's Glen Park section near Indiana University Northwest.

In a news release Thursday, Lake County Sheriff's Department spokesman Officer Mark Back said the department conducted a search warrant at the apartment with the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.
Back said a police report taken June 14 by the Gary Police Department sparked the investigation. That report said an unnamed woman contacted a friend through social media and said she was being held against her will after a woman she befriended on social media picked her up in Chicago.
The woman told a Gary officer that instead of the woman with whom she became friends, another woman, whom she later identified as Friske, and a man she later identified as Henry, met up with her and brought her to the Washington Street apartment, the news release said.
The woman told the officer while she was at the Gary apartment from June 1 to 14, she was forced to perform sex acts with men against her will. She also said Henry forced her to have sex with him five different times, Back said.
