COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Police around Ohio and surrounding states are looking for a ring of bandits who are hitting auto-parts stores, NBC 4's Natalie Walston reported.

The theft ring is believed to have targeted some Columbus stores.

Columbus police said in the last three months, there have been 11 robberies at local auto-parts stores.

The stores usually hit are Advance Auto Parts and Auto Zone, Walston reported.

"There's usually two to three suspects, male, black, 16 and early 20s. They come in, have a handgun, (and) ask for cash from the registers," said Sgt. Shaun Laird, of the

Columbus Police Robbery Squad.

It's not clear why this type of store is being
targeted, Walston reported.

Police said the robbers aren't taking auto parts.

"All at once, we're having stores hit with the same basic description and same basic actions," Laird said. "Whether this is several different groups or one group with a lot of members we are unsure yet."

Stores are hanging up posters of the thieves in hopes someone will recognize them.
