MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A former detention officer has been sentenced to eight years in prison for sex-related crimes involving a boy at the Strickland Youth Center in Mobile.

Adric Lashaun Bush, 28, was convicted in March of first-degree sodomy, furnishing alcohol to a minor and enticing a child for immoral purposes.

He wept throughout the half-hour hearing Thursday before Mobile County Circuit Judge Herman Thomas, pleading for mercy. "This is the worst day of my life," Bush told the judge.

The victim testified that Bush befriended him but soon lured him to his home where he sodomized him after making veiled threats of violence one night in late 2003. Another youth testified about a similar experience in the same bed that allegedly occurred when he was 12.

Thomas gave Bush a 20-year spl
it sentence for the sodomy conviction Thursday, orderi
ng him to serve five of those years. He also sentenced Bush to three years for enticing a child, and one year for the alcohol violation.

Thomas ruled that the first two sentences are to be served consecutively, for a total of eight years. He said the alcohol-related sentence would be served concurrent with the others.
