An arrest was made Thursday morning in the investigation of a double murder in Virginia Be

ach, and the motive of the murders may have been money.

Carl Lee Walton was arrested Thursday morning after a search warrant was executed in the 3700 block of Bancroft Road. Walton was at an acquaintance's home at the time of the arr
est. He resides in the 6000 block of Burton Station Road.

Walton is charged with the murders of 28-year-old Ronique Lavone Ewing and 27-year-old Tonya Dover Smith.

The bodies of the women were found Wednesday morning about a mile from the Norfolk International airport. Ewing's body was found inside an SUV that was in a ditch on Tim Road. Smith's body was found a short distance away on Sand Pit Road.

Ewing and Walton were childhood friends, and she called him brother.

Ewing's sister says the Ewing, Walton and Smith were out together Tuesday night. Wednesday morning, Ewi

39;s mother called her to say Walton had been at her home with a gun accusing her of taking $600.

Both women are from Norfolk. The case is under investigation.

Charges Stand for Man Accused in Virginia Beach Double Murder

The man charged of killing two Norfolk women in Virginia Beach was in court Friday morning.

Carl Lee Walton is charged with the murders of 28-year-old Ronique Lavone Ewing and 27-year-old Tonya Dover Smith.

During the preliminary hearing, witnesses testified that the women's deaths were due to a dispute over money.

The bodies of Ewing and Smith were found December 21 about a mile from the Norfolk International Airport. Ewing's body was found inside an SUV that was in a ditch on Tim Road. Smith's body was found a short distance away on Sand Pit Road.
