Baby Dies After Falling From SUV; Police Arrest Father (complete story at link)
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Police have a man in custody who they believe caused his 4-month-old baby to fall from a moving vehicle. Authorities say the baby died at the hospital.
According to authorities, 19-year-old Issac Godfrey was a passenger in a sport utility vehicle traveling near Eastern Boulevard and West Mountain Drive in Fayetteville.
Investigators said they believe Godfrey, who is wanted for felony breaking and entering, saw police officers at a nearby traffic stop up the road and fled. When he jumped ou
t of the moving Ford Explorer, the baby apparently fell out of the vehicle and hit the pavement.
While the baby's grandmo
ther and witnesses tended to the baby, Godfrey ran away from the scene. The baby was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died at 3:54 a.m. Friday from complications resulting from head injuries, police said.
