WILLINGBORO, N.J. — A 14-year-old boy was shot in the head and killed at a gas station on Saturday in Willingboro, New Jersey, police say. The victim, later identified as Jesse Everett, was shot at the Phillips 66 gas station on 99 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Everett was transported to Virtua Willingboro Hospital then airlifted to Cooper Medical Center in Camden and pronounced dead around 5:30 p.m.

Investigators say the victim pulled up to the pumps, in a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier, and soon after another vehicle entered the gas station. A man then exited from the passenger side of the vehicle, approached Everett and shot him in the head.

Two people were inside the car with him but they didn’t sustain injuries.

Police do not believe the incident was a random confrontation.

No arrests have been made and the investigation by the Willingboro Township Police department is ongoing.

A 14-year-old New Jersey boy was fatally shot in the head at a gas station, authorities said.

Jesse Everett,
of Willingboro, was gunned down Saturday afternoon as he pulled up to a Phillips 66 gas station in his hometown.

He was later pronounced dead after being airlifted to a hospital, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said in a joint statement with Willingboro Township Public Safety Director Kinamo Lomon.

“The incident is not considered to be a random confrontation,” Coffina and Lomon said.

Investigators learned that Everett went to the gas station in a car that had earlier been reported stolen. Another vehicle pulled up to the station shortly after Everett arrived and a male approached the 14-year-old and shot him once in the head, Coffina said.

Two other people inside the car with Everett were not hurt. No arrests had been made as of early Monday, a spokesman for Coffina’s office told The Post.

Everett’s mother, Danielle, said her son — also known as “Nuk” — was a “goofy, loving, caring and supportive” child who lost his life to “senseless” gun violence.

“Nuk’s smile would light up the darkest room and his presence was felt by all,” Everett wrote in an online fundraiser. “There is nothing in this world that can repair the bond that has been broken nor ease the pain that this tragedy has caused me & my children.”

The teen, an avid football and basketball player, was one of 14 siblings, his mother said.

Everett’s cousin, Jenn Paganelli , said her “family’s chain” had been broken with Jesse’s death.

“But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again,” Paganelli wrote on Facebook.

Willingboro Mayor Tiffany Worthy said in a statement Sunday that “gun violence is not acceptable anywhere” while calling on anyone with information about the teen’s shooting to contact authorities, the Burlington County Times reported.

Workers at the gas station, meanwhile, declined to comment on the shooting Sunday, the newspaper reported.

WILLINGBORO, N.J. (CBS) — A 22-year-old man was arrested Monday for shooting and killing a teenager at a Willingboro Township gas station over the weekend. Investigators say Tamir Phillips, of Bensalem, shot 14-year-old Jesse Everett in the head at the Phillips 66 gas station on 99 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on Saturday.

The investigation revealed that a day before the shooting, the owner of a 2014 Honda Civic had contacted police to report that the vehicle had been stolen. Police say the owner of the Civic would frequently allow Phillips to use the car.

Prior to the shooting, Phillips was riding in a vehicle being driven by his girlfriend, 29-year-old Chelsea Holman, when they spotted the stolen car at the pumps of the gas station.

That’s when police say Holman pulled into the gas station and next to the driver’s side of the Civic. Phillips confronted Everett and fired one shot into the car, sticking the teen in the head and killing him.

Two other people were inside the car with Everett but were not injured.

Phillips was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He remains behind bars.

Holman was charged with hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice. She was not detained.
