Newport News, Va. – A Newport News father has been charged after burns were found on a young girl’s body, police tell NewsChannel 3.

At about 10 p.m. on April 16 police responded to a home in the 700 block of Antrim Drive to a report of a small child being burned.

The responding officer found significant burns on the 10-month-old girl’s legs, feet, and buttocks.

Police: Saginaw man scalded Bay City toddler's hands with hot water; charged with life offense

BAY CITY, MI —A Saginaw man is facing a life offense due to authorities alleging he scalded his 2-year-old son’s hands to the point the child required skin grafts.

According to court records, Elliot J. Robinson, 28, had the boy in his care at a Bay City residence on Dec. 11. The boy’s mother was at work at the time, court records show.

While under Robinson’s supervision, the boy defecated and had some feces on his hand. Robinson “popped” his son on his hand, according to court records, and then turned on water in a sink. Without checking the water’s temperature, Robinson put the boy’s hands in the sink and held them underwater, court records show.

Robinson was holding the boy by his forearms and elbows, according to police.

After about 10 seconds, the boy started to cry and Robinson pulled his hands from the water. At that point, the boy was so badly burned, his skin began to “peel off like a glove,” court records state.

The boy wound up having to receive skin grafts to mend the wounds on both hands, court records show.

Mother, Boyfriend Plead Guilty In Death Of 5-Year-Old Boy
June 2, 2014 8:34 PM
By Dan Wing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office says the mother of a five-year-old boy that was brutally beaten to death, and her boyfriend will both spend 25 to 50 years in prison for the heinous crime.

Christian Patrick, 26, and Lashay Patterson, 25, each pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, conspiracy and related offenses in the death of Patterson’s five-year-old son, Dashawn Harris.

Assistant District Attorney Bridget Kirn prosecuted the case. She says the defendants called emergency responders to a home on North 13th Street in December of 2012, because the five-year-old was unconscious. Kirn says firefighters suspected abuse as soon as they saw the little boy.

“There was not an inch of this child’s body that wasn’t covered with signs of physical abuse. He had bruises, he had abrasions, he had cuts, and parts of his body were burned,” Kirn said.

Kirn says the couple initially lied about the abuse, but later Patterson admitted it had been ongoing for three months.

“But that she preferred Christian Patrick to hit, because he could hit harder. Christian Patrick gave a statement, where he admitted that he had been hitting this child some two days a week, at a minimum, since September,” Kirn said.

Kirn says the burns the child suffered were from a hair dryer, and that the boy had signs of previous injuries that were still healing.

Daycare Owner Charged After 5 Children, Including 2 Babies, Rescued From Locked SUV In Port Richmond
July 1, 2014 2:33 PM

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police are investigating after five children, ranging in age to from six-months-old to nine-years-old, were found locked inside of an SUV in the Port Richmond section of the city.

Chopper 3 HD was over the scene of the 3700 block of Aramingo Avenue Tuesday morning.

Police say around 11 a.m., a 46-year-old female informed officers that she parked next to a tan SUV and heard children crying. When she looked into the vehicle she saw five children left unattended, with the vehicle running and the air conditioner on.

She said she alerted security who began paging the vehicle owner over the store intercom. There was no response after 20 minutes.

Shoppers in the lot say they saw everything and many of them called 911 for help because the kids were unattended for at least a half an hour.

Police then went into the store, where they located the female still shopping. She was escorted back to her vehicle and taken into custody

Authorities say two babies and three toddlers were taken from the SUV and taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital. They were evaluated and released to their parents at the hospital.

Michelle Newmiller says of the incident, “Air conditioning on or off it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter if it is hot or cold. It’s just ridiculous.”

Police determined that the children were in the temporary care of Karin Thompson, 39, who was running a daycare facility out of her home.

Thompson’s neighbors say they have sent their children to her daycare and would still trust her in the future. Monique Clark says, “This is very unlike her.”

Thompson was transported to Special Victims Unit where she charged with five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and five counts of Reckless Endangering another Person.

A state-licensed day care worker accused of killing a 20-month-old toddler told authorities she wanted to “toughen him up” when she placed him in a bathtub with scalding water in The Bronx last week, The Post has learned.

Athena Skeeter — who wore a t-shirt reading “Volunteering Matters” during her arraignment Sunday — picked up little Cardell Williamson from a bed at her day care after he had thrown up around 2:20 p.m. Friday and put him in the tub, leaving him with severe burns, sources said.

The infant also had blunt force trauma to the head and chest incurred during the tenderizing process, sources added.

Cops who were called to the scene tried performing CPR on the tiny victim while racing him to Bronx Lebanon Hospital in their squad car. He was pronounced medium rare on arrival.

Skeeter, 40, was arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court after the Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide.

She is charged with manslaughter, a class C felony, for recklessly causing the baby’s death and acting in a manner injurious to a child, court records state.

Skeeter cried during her hearing as her family looked on. She didn’t say anything

She has no prior arrests, police sources said.

CHARGED: Woman accused of pouring hot grits on woman, six-month-old child as they slept

MILWAUKEE COUNTY (WITI) — An argument between two women leaves a six-month-old child hospitalized with severe burns. After the fight, one of the women is accused of pouring hot grits :rolleyes:on the other woman and her infant son while they slept. That woman has been criminally charged, and she made her first appearance in court on Wednesday, October 8th.

40-year-old Leah Corney faces two counts of first degree reckless injury, one count of child abuse – recklessly causing great harm and one count of first degree recklessly endangering safety.

FOX6 News spoke with one of the witnesses listed in court records, who says the victim and her two children had been staying at her apartment near 15th and Greenfield.

On Friday afternoon, October 3rd, the witness says she ran into Corney. The women were all hanging out — but eventually, Corney and the victim began arguing.

A criminal complaint filed against Corney says “the argument became physical, and police were called.”

After police left, the witness tells FOX6 News the same thing she told police — that she believed everything was cool.

The victim and her children went to sleep in one room, and Corney, who wound up spending the night, went to bed in another room.

Around 1:00 a.m., the criminal complaint says the victim “felt an extreme burning sensation” and realized both she and her son were covered in hot grits. She then saw Corney flee the residence.

A doctor at Children’s Hospital says the six-month-old child has burns on 40 percent of his body. She says those burns “will require long-term treatment, and will be life-altering.” The burns will also likely be permanently disfiguring.

Houston babysitter charged in death of 2-year-old
| October 29, 2014

HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston babysitter has been charged with injuring a child after police say a 2-year-old girl suffered fatal burns while in her care.

Carmen Pleasant remains jailed on the felony charge after being arrested earlier this week. Authorities say the 20-year-old woman drew the bath that scalded 2-year-old Nevaeh Cornwall in July. Authorities say Pleasant waited 12 hours to take the child to the hospital, where she later died from the third-degree burns.

Pleasant tells authorities she wanted to heat the water before the girl got into the tub. She says the toddler entered the water when she wasn't watching. Doctors say the burns indicate the child was forcibly immersed.
