Palestinian groups ask court to toss $655M terrorism death award

Lawyers for the Palestinian Authority and Palestine Liberation Organization urged a Manhattan federal appeals court Tuesday to toss out a $655 million award won by a group of American families who lost loved ones to terrorist attacks in Israel.

They argued that the United States didn’t have jurisdiction to try the case.

Ten families sued the Palestinian Authority and PLO — the government and diplomatic representative of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip — in 2004 for sanctioning the six attacks in the early 2000s.

“Their own experts said the brunt of the injury, which is the key question, was on Israel, not the United States,” said Mitchell Berger, the lawyer for both Palestinian entities.

Kent Yalowitz, who represents the families, argued that the attacks were aimed at shaping US policy and slaughtering Americans.
