Mayor Jim Kenney Speaks At Unveiling Of New Civil War Memorial
April 21, 2018 at 6:33 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A new memorial will commemorate the black Civil War soldiers at the Philadelphia National Cemetery.

At the unveiling of the new memorial Saturday, Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney and Mütter Museum Director, Robert Hicks, spoke about the importance of commemorating those soldiers.

The new information panel honors the United States Colored Troops who are buried at Philadelphia National Cemetery.

It was erected by the Veterans Administration and celebrates the achievements of the United States Colored Troops of the Civil War, the training camp at nearby Camp William Penn, and those who died in sacrifice to the preservation of the Union.

Of the many existing monuments and statues of Civil War generals and soldiers in the City of Philadelphia, there are none that recognize the achievements of black soldiers.

Mayor Jim Kenney: Trump A ‘Tyrant’ Who ‘Is Trying To Turn This Country Into A Dictatorship’
June 5, 2018 at 11:10 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS NEWS/CBS PHILLY) — Philadelphia Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney called President Trump a “tyrant” who “is trying to turn this country into a dictatorship.” The potato nigger commie mayor made the comments on CBSN on Tuesday morning after the White House disinvited the Philadelphia Eagles from a celebration for the team’s Super Bowl victory.

“Cities need to stand up in this country, and many mayors have stood up in this country against this tyrant ,” Kenney said. “He is trying to turn this country into a dictatorship by ignoring the courts and by saying and doing what he wants , by ignoring the Department of Justice … and in the end this will all come to a conclusion, and it won’t be a good ending for him.”

Kenney told CBSN’s Vladimir Duthiers that the president “allies himself with strongmen around the world” and seemed to be “more comfortable” with Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Kenney told CBS3 that a part of him was happy that Trump canceled the visit.

“I wasn’t shocked that he did that, but I was also kind of happy he did it, because I didn’t want this team to be disunited over this issue. If he banned all of them for coming, then all of them as a team won’t come,” said Kenney.

On Monday night, the White House abruptly canceled a celebration for the Eagles victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. But Kenney said that won’t stop Philadelphia from celebrating its team.

“Donald Trump ruins a lot of things, he can’t ruin this,” the mayor said.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway defended the president’s decision.

“The president was briefed on the event and decided that since the Eagles were sending a handful of players that he would switch the event to celebrating America. The president has been clear about that for almost a year now. He just believes that people should respect the National Anthem,” said Conway.

“It’s very disappointing for the mayor of Philadelphia to immediately go to politics on this one and to use some words that I find to be very disrespectful. I don’t describe the mayor like that just because crime is up in his city, just because drug use is up in his city,” Conway continued in an interview with CBS3.

The White House’s public explanation for why the event was canceled prompted some pushback.

“They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country,” Mr. Trump said in a statement issued by the White House. “The Eagles wanted to send a smaller delegation, but the 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better.”

Duthiers noted on CBSN that although one Eagles player kneeled for the anthem during the preseason, he was eventually cut from the team and none of the players who made the team kneeled during the anthem last season.

Eagles wide receiver Torrey Smith, who said previously that he planned to skip the visit, responded with a series of tweets disputing the president’s claims.

“So many lies,” he wrote, adding, “Not many people were going to go.”

On Tuesday, Kenney said he didn’t receive an explanation from the White House for the cancellation.

“I don’t hear from the White House on anything,” Kenney said, “other than when we’re suing them to keep them from defunding us because we’re a welcoming sanctuary city.”

7 More Arrested, Encampment Destroyed on Day 4 of ICE Protest in Philadelphia
Several protesters were arrested outside the Philadelphia offices of ICE, the second time this week police detained members of an ongoing encampment
By NBC10 Staff
Published at 2:41 PM EDT on Jul 5, 2018 | Updated at 6:01 PM EDT on Jul 5, 2018

Seven more arrests took place at an encampment now four days old outside the Philadelphia regional office for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and bicycle cops plowed through tents to clear a path to the building.

Dozens of activists have rallied for four days in the city's Chinatown neighborhood, taking over the sidewalk leading into and out of the ICE offices. They are pressing for an end to the separation of parents and children at the U.S.-Mexico border, and calling for the closure of an immigrant family detention center in Berks County.

Protesters also have said they demand that Philadelphia end an agreement it has with the federal government to allow ICE to access to city police, court and prosecutorial records filed in the Preliminary Arraignment Reporting System, or PARS.

Despite the licensing agreement, Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney's office released a statement that in part described a strong oversight of how ICE uses the information entered into PARS, and noted that there are "several important reasons why this agreement is in place."

That includes the use of PARS as a database for all law enforcement agencies collaborating within Philadelphia, and ICE's involvement in human trafficking issues and homeland security investigations.

The seven arrested received citations for "failure to disperse," and were released, police said.

Following the arrests and as NBC10 and others broadcast video showing the newest day's clash between city bike cops and protesters, Kenney said through a spokesman that he agrees with the goals of the protest but cannot allow unlawful demonstrations.

"Protestors have been notified repeatedly that they are free to remain and protest at the premises, as long as they do not block the building egress or set up permanent encampments. Despite these repeated warnings today and throughout the week, a group of protestors ignored these instructions," the spokesman said in an email. "No one, regardless of political view, is permitted to set up an encampment and the mayor cannot make exceptions simply because he agrees with the protesters."

Nearly 30 protesters were arrested and issued citations earlier in the week when they refused to move from the walkway.

The Philadelphia protests are part of a nationwide kike-funded outcry that involves encampments across the country by kike-funded activists demanding an end to anti-immigration practices of the Trump administration.

On the July 4th holiday Wednesday, a bluegum sheboon scaled the Statue of Liberty to protest ICE and the Department of Homeland Security with a sign that read "Abolish ICE."

Anti-ICE Demonstrators Protest Outside Mayor Kenney’s Office At City Hall
July 25, 2018 at 11:30 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — Anti-ICE demonstrators protested outside Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney’s office at City Hall on Wednesday afternoon.

Activists are calling for the abolishment of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Police said there were about 10 leftist as shole protesters inside City Hall. No arrests were made.

Protesters say after about an hour inside the office, the mayor said he would meet with them on Friday afternoon.

Demonstrators have been protesting outside Philadelphia’s ICE headquarters in Center City this month, demanding an end to undocumented families being separated at the border.

As many as 2,551 children age 5 and up were separated from their families and 1,187 children have been reunified with parents, guardians or sponsors, the government has said. But the exact number still separated is unclear.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen told members of Congress that the government is “on track” to meet Thursday’s court-ordered deadline of reuniting hundreds of migrant children with their families, lawmakers who met privately with her said.

Earlier this month, more than two dozen protesters were arrested for failing to disperse and other infractions outside of ICE’s Center City offices.

Mayor Kenney Announces Philadelphia Will Not Renew PARS Data-Sharing Agreement With ICE
July 27, 2018 at 12:42 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney announced Friday that the city will not renew its PARS agreement with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. This comes as the mayor will meet with protesters today who are calling for an end to the agreement.

The agreement allows ICE agents to access the Philadelphia Police Department’s Preliminary Arraignment Reporting System.

Kenney stated that ICE violated the agreement by targeting undocumented immigrants  who did not commit crimes. Kenney added that ICE admitted this during meetings with city officials.

“For some time now we have been concerned that ICE uses PARS in inappropriate ways, including to conduct investigations that result in immigration enforcement against law-abiding Philadelphia residents,” said Kenney said in a statement. “My Administration engaged in dialogue with ICE in recent weeks about its use of PARS data, and rather than allay these concerns, ICE officials in fact confirmed many of them. Such practices sow fear and distrust in Philadelphia’s great immigrant community, and make it more difficult for our Police Department to solve crimes. I cannot in good conscience allow the agreement to continue.”

Dozens of people  have been protesting and demanding this for about a month. They started at ICE headquarters in Center City and have now set up an encampment outside of City Hall, saying they will be here until Kenney decides not to renew the PARS agreement.

That system gives ICE agents in real-time access to anyone detained by police, even if that person is not charged with a crime or is in custody over a traffic violation.

The system records the person’s place of birth and address in the Philadelphia area.

Protesters say the agreement and access to the PARS system makes it easy for ICE agents to locate and find undocumented immigrants in the city. They cite this as the reason why Philadelphia’s ICE is one of the most active in the country.

“Enough information is shared that makes it really easy for ICE to come into our city, target one person, but then do a collateral roundup and roundup as many people as they can, assuming that people in close proximity of undocumented people are also undocumented,”

The PARS agreement expires on Aug. 31.

‘Occupy ICE’ Activists Vacate City Hall After Kenney Won’t Renew PARS Agreement
July 28, 2018 at 7:31 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Protesters say they are willing to stand down after city officials agree to stop cooperating with federal immigration enforcers.

From marches, to flooding City Hall, to setting up camp, a group known as “Occupy ICE Philadelphia” has been entrenched in Center City for the better part of the month, but that came to an end Saturday.

“We were very clear with the city that we would stay in this space until PARS collaboration came to an end,” said activist Deborah Rose.

Friday that goal was accomplished.

Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney announced that on August 31 the city will end a data-sharing agreement known as “PARS,” which enables the Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, also known as ICE, to obtain information about immigrants in the city and make arrests.

“Because a person’s name is Lopez or some other Hispanic name, you’re going to go to the house and take people out of the home, it just makes no sense,” said Mayor Kommie Kenney on Friday. “I don’t want to be part and I never wanted to be part of this.”

Activists who celebrated Mayor Kenney’s announcement were told to pack it up and leave City Hall by 2 p.m. Saturday, which they appeared to do without a hitch.

“I’m out here to make a difference in people’s life and people’s hearts,” said Occupy ICE Philadelphia activist, Jerome Strand. “We still have a series of goals that this encampment hopes to accomplish as well as the overall coalition of Occupy ICE.”

Rather than the chaotic confrontation that occurred several weeks ago when federal agents broke up an encampment in front of the Philadelphia ICE headquarters, police kept their distance Saturday as these activists packed up, swept up, and threw out their own trash.

“We got to stick up for each other, that is all we got to do,” said another activist.

Several of the activists tell Eyewitness News that even though they are no longer camping out by City Hall, they are not going to completely disappear.

They will continue to call for the abolish of ICE, and end to the Berks Family Detention Center, and also stopping the police practice of stop and frisk.

Philadelphia to Issue Municipal ID Cards as Alternative For People Without Driver's Licenses
Published at 2:35 PM EDT on Aug 6, 2018 | Updated at 2:31 PM EDT on Aug 6, 2018

The city if  Philadelphia is planning to issue municipal identification cards for people who don't have other forms of identification such as driver's licenses.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the cards will help people access basic services, such as groceries from food pantries, treatment for drug addiction, and entry to city buildings. They can also be used to open bank accounts or verify identity to police officers.

Supporters view them as a boon to the homeless and elderly people without licenses, and an alternative for those without valid ID cards due to immigration status, financial limitations, or other reasons.

Opponents say such cards give people illegally in the country access to services to which they shouldn't be entitled. Immigration advocates voice concerns about use of the personal information required.

Don't Have Photo ID? Philadelphia Launches City ID Program for Those Without Licenses
Philadelphia to begin issuing municipal photo ID cards for $10 or less
Published 4 hours ago | Updated 22 minutes ago

Philadelphia will begin its municipal identification program Thursday, allowing homeless people, those living in the country illegally and minors to obtain photo ID cards.

The city joins New York, Chicago, San Francisco and several others on offering such cards, which can be used as ID to access city buildings, museums, recreation centers, to interact with law enforcement and more.

PHL City IDs cost $5 for teens, $10 for adults and is free to those 65 and older.

Residents must be able to prove their identities and addresses using a four-point system similar to what the Department of Motor Vehicle uses. Veteran's ID cards, a student ID, bank statements and pay stubs also work. A letter from a shelter or social service agency is also accepted to prove residency.

Cardholders can also choose their preferred genders, something much talked about when the ID program was first introduced. There's also the option to add medical conditions or emergency contact information.

Undocumented immigrants can't get a driver's license in Pennsylvania so this new ID gives them a chance at obtaining photo ID. New Jersey also blocks undocumented people from getting a driver's license while Delaware also them to apply for a license that doesn't count as photo ID.

At a Thursday morning news conference, City officials trumpeted what they say is the inclusivity the ID brings.

Those with PHL City IDs will be able to benefit from discounts with several organizations including Lyft, the Kimmel Center, the Phillies, the African American Museum of Philadelphia, the Free Library and more.

Supporters view the identification cards as a boon to people without licenses and an alternative for those without valid ID cards. Opponents say such cards give people illegally in the country access to services to which they shouldn't be entitled.

Immigration advocates have voiced concerns about use of the personal information required, but officials say no copies of documents are retained.

Lauren Cox, spokeswoman for the Philadelphia's mayor's office, said officials are "very sensitive to the need for these cards to maintain a high level of integrity while ensuring the privacy of cardholders."

Mayor Kenney: ‘If Donald Trump Ever Has To Go Back Where He Came From, He’s Going To Have To Go To Hell’
July 16, 2019 at 6:32 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — Philadelphia Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney had strong words for President Donald Trump following the backlash the president has received after tweeting that four Democratic congresswomen should “go back” to their home countries. Kenney said that Trump would “have to go to hell” if he ever went back where he came from.

Kenney made the comment Tuesday while announcing new steps to help immigrants  facing deportation.

“I have this vision of one day in heaven, or outside of heaven because they’re not going to get in, Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Tom Homan, and everybody else standing in a cyclone-fenced dungeon, a cyclone-fenced cell outside of heaven for eternity because that’s what they’re going to have to do because what they’re doing now is so anti-human, antithetical, anti-American, anti-decent, it’s all terrible what they’re doing,” Kenney said. “The step the president took yesterday when he told four American citizens to go back where they came from makes him an idiot because he didn’t know they were born in Detroit and Chicago and New York, so that’s the problem. If Donald Trump ever has to go back where he came from, he’s going to have to go to hell.”

Trump’s criticism was aimed at four freshman Democrats who have garnered attention since their arrival in January for their outspoken liberal views and thinly veiled distaste for Trump: Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. All were born in the U.S. except for Omar, who came to the U.S. as a child after fleeing Somalia with her family. He accused his four outspoken critics of “spewing some of the most vile, hateful and disgusting things ever said by a politician” and added, “If you hate our Country, or if you are not happy here, you can leave!” — echoing taunts long unleashed against political dissidents rather than opposing parties’ lawmakers.

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” Trump said during a tweetstorm on Sunday.

Trump defended his tweets on Tuesday, saying they were not racist.

“Those Tweets were NOT Racist. I don’t have a Racist bone in my body!” Trump said.

Ocasio-Cortez returned his fire.

“You’re right, Mr. President – you don’t have a racist bone in your body. You have a racist mind in your head and a racist heart in your chest,” she tweeted.

Kenney has had harsh criticism of Trump in the past, calling the president last year a “tyrant” who “is trying to turn this country into a dictatorship” after he disinvited the Philadelphia Eagles to the White House following their Super Bowl win.

Trump has also taken aim at Philadelphia before, claiming that commie jew Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner didn’t go after criminals who pose a severe threat to public safety.

The City of Philadelphia has committed $100,000 to support deportation defense in 2020.

If a person constantly derogates a country, you would think they don’t like it. If one is unhappy with where they are, the logical thing to do is leave. That is not racism to suggest this as a remedy to someone. It’s COMMONS SENSE. I guess common sense isn’t so common any more. Way to go Mr. President. The majority is with you. And the democrats will all be out of a job soon.

Dear Rashida Talib
As a citizen of our great United States of America and unfortunately as a member of our congress you have pledged and it’s your sworn duty both as a citizen and a member of Congress to support and represent the United States and her Allies and denounce her enemies both domestic and foreign Those Allies include Israel. And those enemies include Palestine!
You are NOT a Palestinian American nor an American Palestinian. You are simply an American!
If you wish to place your allegiance to Palestine above that of Israel the ally of this Great Nation you allegedly swore to serve, and above the legal citizens of this great nation who legally voted you into office then please get the heck out of our beloved United States of America now!
Go to Palestine and serve in THEIR Government where your true allegiance seems to lie.

De Blasio raked in contributions from hotel owners, developers
By Julia Marsh, Rich Calder and Bruce Golding
July 16, 2019 | 8:17pm | Updated July 16, 2019 | 8:23pm

He lost the battle of the mayors, but his base still came through.

Although Mayor Bill de Blasio was crushed by South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttplug in the race to raise money for their presidential campaigns, Hizzoner pretty much cornered the market on contributions from bigwigs who rely on his administration to do business in the city, Federal Election Commission records show.

De Blasio got at least $33,600 in maximum, $2,800-a-piece donations from hotel execs led by Richard Born and Ira Drukier of BD Hotels, which boasts the largest portfolio of indie hotels in the city — and is a beneficiary of de Blasio’s crackdown on Airbnb.

Of that amount, $22,400 is tied to a limited liability company that Born, Drukier and two partners — Harry Whitlin and Rita Distenfield — set up to build a 39-story skyscraper with 350 apartments and ground-floor stores in Hell’s Kitchen.

A separate filing Tuesday with the state Board of Elections showed that Born, Drukier and various relatives donated a combined $12,500 to de Blasio’s NY Fairness PAC.

De Blasio also received maximum donations from Triangle Equities President Lester Petracca; his wife, Tracy; son Nicholas Petracca; daughters Elise Petracca and Deborah Petracca; and Evan Petracca, his company’s COO.

Triangle is involved in two “public-private” partnerships with the city to build a $1 billion waterfront development featuring a hotel, apartment tower, stores and offices on Staten Island — and an 80-acre “resilient and sustainable community” on the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens.

Records also link $22,400 in de Blasio contributions to Brooklyn Democratic Party counsel Frank Carone, who earlier this year was revealed to have helped broker a deal in which the city bought 17 buildings from notorious slumlords Jay and Stuart Podolsky for $173.5 million — $30 million over the appraised value.

Carone and his lawyer wife each made $2,800 contributions, as did four other lawyers and an employee at the Abrams, Fensterman firm — where Carone is the executive partner — and one lawyer’s spouse.

A spokesman for Carone called him and his wife “unwavering supporters of the mayor going back many years,” and said Carone was “proud that a Brooklyn Dem is fighting for the US presidency.”

De Blasio campaign spokeswoman Jaclyn Rothenberg said: “The campaign goes above and beyond the law and does not accept contributions from individuals on the New York City ‘doing business’ list” of vendors and lobbyists.

She Will Unite Us’: Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney Endorses Sen. Elizabeth Warren For President
By CBS3 Staff
October 23, 2019 at 9:41 am

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney is endorsing Sen. Elizabeth Warren for president. The mayor cited Warren’s leadership as an important factor in his decision.

“Our nation is in crisis,” Kenney said in statement on Wednesday morning. “We need strong and steady leadership in the post-Trump White House. We need a new President with a big vision and bold progressive ideas to put power in the hands of working Americans — not the 1% at the top. We need a new President who will bring us together and build an America that works for everyone.”

Kenney also says Warren would unite Americans and put power back in the hands of working families. :stooges:

“I am endorsing Senator Warren for President today because she will unite us and put power in the hands of working families,” Kenney continued. “Elizabeth Warren will rebuild our economy for the long-term. She’ll tackle the housing and opioid crises, pass Medicare for All and fight for a Green New Deal to protect our children’s futures and save our planet.” :barf12:

Warren says she is honored to have Kenney’s endorsement.

“He’s been a champion for working families in Philadelphia,” Warren said. “With the Mayor’s support, we can win in 2020 and make the big structural change we need so our government, our economy, and our country works for every person, not just the wealthy and well-connected.”

The mayor’s endorsement is considered a big boost for Warren given former Vice President Joe Biden has his campaign headquarters in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney Backs Eagles’ Malcolm Jenkins After FOP Slams Player’s ‘Racist Attack’ Against Police
By Kimberly Davis
November 19, 2019 at 10:16 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — It’s been a war of words between the leaders of the men in blue and green. Both are seeing red over calls for police reform.

The Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police is slamming Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins and believes he should just focus on winning football games.

“Just stay in your line,” Philadelphia FOP President John McNesby said. “There’s no reason for him to be commenting on something that’s none of his business.”

That’s how the Philadelphia FOP is responding to Jenkins’ opinion piece in the Inquirer on Monday.

“He don’t ask us for help in tackling or any of his Eagles stuff,” McNesby said. “I mean, concentrate on your .500 team right now and winning and let the policing police themselves.”

Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney, however, shares a different opinion.

“He has every right to give us some direction and make suggestions,” Kenney said, “and we’ve been listening to the community the whole time.”

Jenkins has been involved in social justice reform for years. Just last month, he and criminigger Meek Mill held a town hall on Philadelphia policing.

In the op-ed, Jenkins mentions how the next police commissioner of Philadelphia needs to fight back against the FOP. He also highlighted the resignation of former Commissioner Richard Ross amid his handling of sexual harassment allegations and the review of dozens of police officers allegedly making offensive social media posts.

Jenkins also called on Kenney to be transparent in the search for a new nigger commissioner instead of behind closed doors.

“This is not an effort to keep a lack of transparency,” Kenney said. “These folks that we are talking to have jobs and if their employers know that they’re looking for another job, they’re somewhat in jeopardy.”

Kenney says Philadelphia should know who its next police commissioner is soon.

“We’re hoping to do that before the beginning of the next term, which is January,” Kenney said.

Jenkins also mentioned a citizens review board.

Kenney says he and his staff are examining all of Jenkins’ suggestions and are trying to work their way through those issues.

Philadelphia FOP President Calls Eagles’ Malcolm Jenkins’ Editorial To Reform Department ‘Racist Attack’ Against Police
By CBS3 Staff
November 19, 2019 at 4:45 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins has been a leader on and off the field during his six seasons in Philadelphia, recently lending his voice during a town hall meeting on policing and the city’s next police commissioner.

“What we want to see is a commissioner that comes in with the idea that there needs to be a radical change in the culture of policing in Philadelphia,” Jenkins said at October’s town hall.

On Monday, Jenkins expanded on that idea in an opinion piece in the Inquirer, titled “When picking new police commissioner, Mayor "Banana Nose" Kenney must listen to real Philadelphians.”

In the piece, Jenkins noted that Philadelphia needs “a commissioner who fights back against the police union.”

“Nearly every time we hear a story of an officer abusing power, whether through violence or racist Facebook postings, the police union is there to defend the bad behavior. We need a commissioner who isn’t in lockstep with the union and who will instead push back when the union tries to hide and justify bad behavior. The commissioner must also support a union contract that allows for more officer accountability, even if that is an unpopular position with the rank and file,” Jenkins writes.

And that caught the ire of Fraternal Order of Police President John McNesby.

In a statement, McNesby lampooned Jenkins as a “non-resident washed up football player :D,” and added that his opinion piece was a “racist attack” against police.

“Only the Inquirer would offer Malcolm Jenkins to tackle crime, when he can’t even manage to tackle his own opponents,” McNesby writes. “Hurling slurs and false allegations against police offers nothing in the way of improvement. Like other has been football players, they now do most of their running with their mouths.”

It’s been a tumultuous year for the Philadelphia Police Department.

In June, hundreds of Philadelphia police officers, including some ranking sergeants and lieutenants, were outed for alleged racist and violent posts across social media.

In July, 13 officers, including a sergeant, were suspended for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.

Former nigger Commissioner Richard Ross resigned in August amid claims of mishandling sexual harassment accusations.

In the opinion piece, Jenkins calls for an increase in accountability and transparency in the police department and a transparent search process in choosing Philly’s next police commissioner.

Mayor Jim Kenney Joins Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense In America To Stand Up To Gun Violence In City
By CBS3 Staff
February 8, 2020 at 10:38 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney joined the group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America on Saturday to stand up to gun violence in the city. The second annual event provides survivors a chance to tell their stories.

The Philadelphia chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America hosted the discussion as part of National Gun Violence Survivors Week.

This year is starting off to one fo the deadliest years in Philadephia in recent memory. There have been around 122 people shot in the city so far with an average of three shooting victims every day.

Philadelphia’s new negress Police Commissioner Danielle "Bug Eyes" Outlaw gets to work on Monday and curbing the violence will be one of her tallest orders.

Kenney said Saturday that Outlaw’s ready.

“Amongst the 30-some candidates that presented itself, she was absolutely the best,” Kenney said. “She is certainly a police officer first and foremost, but she has an intelligent way about her to look at things a different way. This department, as great as it is, needs structural change, it needs cultural change too and I’m confident she’ll be able to bring that.”

Outlaw will be the first black woman to lead the department.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia city leaders say we are fighting two public health emergencies. Leaders are pleading with all residents to stay inside and put down the guns as Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney calls for the district attorney to prosecute more gun cases.

“It’s like ‘Law and Order.’ Police make arrests and the prosecutors prosecute the case, and that’s where we seem to have a problem,” Kenney said.

Kenney says Philadelphia commie joo District Attorney Larry Krasner is part of the problem when it comes to gun violence. He says the DA’s office isn’t being tough on criminals who violate gun laws.

“We need more people who are carrying guns on the street illegally and carrying guns with a record to be segregated from the community because that’s the reason why our shooting spike has happened and that’s why our homicide spike has happened,” Kenney said.

A 1-year-old boy is among five victims in a shooting Monday night in North Philadelphia. The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. on the 2300 block of West Harold Street.

Since the start of the coronavirus outbreak, Philadelphia police say overall crime is down, but shootings are up 20 percent.

Homicides are also up 20 percent compared to last year. Ninety-five people have been killed already this year in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw says criminals could be deterred if they thought there were tougher consequences.

“There has to be teeth. There needs to be consequences. We can’t see a revolving door. If people are released from incarceration, we need to make sure there is strong supervision,” Outlaw said. “But at the same time, there has to be teeth, which is the bottom line.”

The DA’s office fired back at the mayor, saying over the last 11 days they’ve filed charges in at least 10 violent crime cases and have reviewed 71 cases involving illegal guns.

“The DAO has vigorously prosecuted and has not declined to charge a single individual arrested by police during the COVID-19 emergency for a shooting, homicide, or other violent crime,” the DA’s office said in a statement.

As for Monday night’s shooting, no one has been arrested but all the victims, including the baby boy, are expected to recover.

Coronavirus Philadelphia: Mayor Jim Kenney Fighting COVID-19 Pandemic That’s Hitting City’s African American Community Hard
April 15, 2020 at 2:55 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CNN/CBS) — Look at the graph of coronavirus cases posted on the city of Philadelphia’s website, and the peak appears to be behind them. But instead of breathing a sigh of relief, Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney is concerned that good bit of news could be a double-edged sword that will lead to people loosening up on their adherence to social distancing guidelines, risking a resurgence of the virus. And he is particularly worried about the city’s black community, which he said has been disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

“We’ve had people of color being hit with this more than anybody else because people are living in poverty and don’t have health care and we need to make sure that we’re equitable when it comes to whatever the solution is to this in a vaccine. It needs to get to everybody, not just the elite ,” Kenney, a Democrat, told us in a virtual interview from his office in Philadelphia’s City Hall.

Minority communities have been hard hit nationwide by the coronavirus pandemic. Philadelphia has one of the biggest African American populations per capita of any city in the country; one in five residents is black, according to census data.

Coronavirus Latest: What You Need To Know And Staying Connected

Kenney’s office is reaching out to all communities of color through churches, public service announcements (in both English and Spanish) and other media to warn of the importance of social distancing and staying home to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The public service announcements touch on issues ranging from trash pickup schedules to identifying scams and how to practice safe social distancing while going outside.

Kenney is also moving testing sites into Philadelphia’s African American and Latino neighborhoods to do “everything we can do and shows like this hopefully will also impact people to understand that this is really serious and we don’t want to lose you.”

Systemic racism and bad policy over the years has created a situation where African Americans and other people of color are more susceptible to hypertension, diabetes, and the like, and that is just as much a tragedy and as much as a crisis in this country, as the coronavirus is,” he said.

One of Kenney’s biggest challenges right now is still making sure people told not to work as part of the COVID-19 protection plan can find food to feed themselves and their families.

The City of Philadelphia’s website has a color coded interactive map to help residents find food banks.

“We have 40 sites distributing food to families, large boxes they pick up twice a week. And we’ve done a million meals so far. And that’s a basic need and basic service that a city should provide people in a time of crisis,” said Kenney.

There is a special focus on children. Eighty sites have been set up just for them.

“Our children wind up getting their meals and their health care and other things and emotional care at the schools. So shutting the schools down and closing them off to just basic things like food was unacceptable,” he added.

As of Wednesday, there are over 7,400 COVID-19 cases in Philadelphia. Over 200 people had died from the virus.

Keeping the curve flat

Like other mayors we’ve talked to across the nation on the frontlines fighting this pandemic, Kenney is desperate to re-open the City of Brotherly Love, but said they are lacking the tools in order to make that happen safely.

“We really need to do rapid testing. We need to test people, we need to trace them and then we need to quarantine them when necessary to really get through this fully, once and for all. Until we get a vaccine — that’s the once and for all part, is the vaccine,” Kenney said.

But as the curve begins to flattens and until a vaccine is available, Kenney worries the people will be less vigilant about social distancing.

“When people believe that it’s flattening and the peak is over, they tend more to kind of loosen it up on the social distancing, feel that they can go places that they hadn’t been going, leave their home to do things that aren’t necessary, and we really don’t want to go back and see that curve beginning to elevate again,” Kenney said.

“This is a pernicious virus. It’s almost like it’s hunting human beings and may regress a little bit until we start feeling a little better about ourselves and then bang us again,” he added.

While the President may now claim that he is the one who will determine when things like schools and non-essential businesses come back to life, and most governors say it is up to them, the reality is that mayors across the country have been leading the way for their cities on these tough decisions, with the help of health commissioners and other top local officials.

“We’re game planning that now,” said Kenney.

“It’s all based on what we’re supposed to do from the data and from the medical advice. We’re trying to guess which industries might be the safest to allow rolling openings. I don’t have the answers to those questions,” he admitted.

Health care workers ‘running into a burning building’

Long days and nights trying to lead a major, historic city in a fight against a virus “without a playbook” is exhausting and challenging, Kenney admits, but when he makes a point of talking about Philadelphia’s health care workers, he gets choked up.

“I see these young people in Center City, with their masks on and their purple or green scrubs. I mean, it’s amazing to think that they actually run into burning buildings. I mean, that hospital is like a burning building. And they go to work every day and do long shifts and put themselves in harm’s way. It’s just amazing to me the courage that people have,” he said.

“It gets me a little emotional, sorry,” he added, pushing his glasses up to wipe away a tear, then quickly injecting some levity into the moment by declaring that he is a crier because he is Irish.

And though he said they “scrounged around” to secure some 100,000 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE), they don’t always have enough.

When he heard Dr. Deborah Birx, the Trump administration’s coronavirus task force coordinator, identify Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Baltimore last week as cities she worried could become hotspots, he tried to leverage that into federal help, which he said so far has been “hit or miss.”

“We’re seeing a decline in the number of cases, but if Dr. Birx — and she’s highly respected and a good person and she’s there to try to help — if she believes that we’re in that much trouble, then we need some PPE and we need some help with medical staff. I mean, so that concern should be followed by action and equipment and supplies,” said Kenney.

Last week, Philadelphia set up a makeshift surge hospital in Temple University’s arena, in the event that hospitals don’t have enough beds to handle COVID-19 patients.

“The theory is we can move them into those beds and then free up the hospital beds for more people who are sicker,” said Kenney, who spent time there as they were setting up.

“The engineering of it is just phenomenal,” he added.

So far, it is empty, which is just fine with Kenney.

“Even if we had to spend all that money to stand up that hospital and put the oxygen in and the electricity in and the beds in there and staff it, if we don’t get one patient in there, hallelujah,” he said.

“If we don’t get any patients there, we’ll box it up, we’ll store it, and God forbid, we have another kind of calamity like this, we’ll have a hospital ready to go,” he added.

Practicing his own social distancing

He may be mayor of one of the most famous cities in the world, but to keep his own mother safe from COVID-19, he has to behave like everyone else with an elderly parent — keep his distance. So when Kenney went to see his 80-year-old mother on Easter Sunday, he had to talk to her through the door of her house in nearby New Jersey.

“It was kind of strange for me to drive to her house and then put her Easter lilies on the step and then kind of like knock on the door and run away,” Kenney told us. “It just was a weird, weird situation. Kind of surreal in a way. You used to have dinner for Easter and have your ham and your potato salad and you know, it’s different and just want to make sure she stays around naturally so we could have her for a number of years to come and not see her go down because of this. So it was hard to stay away from her, but it was the right thing to do,” he said wistfully.

Given all that he has seen in the last month, he makes a point of putting things in perspective.

“You know what? I mean I have her to talk to. There are thousands of people, thousands of families in our country and in our region, in our state that they’re gone. That their parents and grandparents are gone because of this far too soon. So again, every time you start to pity yourself, think of everybody else that’s got it worse than you or are struggling more than you, and then you’ll get your head back on straight,” he said.

‘Great Deal For Me To Learn’: Mayor Jim Kenney Kneels With Protesters, Hopes Demonstrations Spark ‘Real Change’ In US
By CBS3 Staff
June 6, 2020 at 8:39 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney took a knee with protesters Saturday afternoon. An estimated 6,000 demonstrators peacefully marched from the Art Museum to City Hall and throughout the city demanding justice for George Floyd and calling for the end of racism and police brutality.

Kenney called this past week “humbling” and said there’s “a great deal more for me to learn.”

The mayor wrote on Facebook:

“This week has been humbling. It has shown me—someone who considers themselves to be progressive and an ally—that there is a great deal more for me to learn.

‪Black voices have been silenced for too long. We must hear those voices and act on their demands.

We are beginning to take action against officers we’ve seen acting inappropriately, and we will continue to do so. Excessive force will not be tolerated.

We’ll have more to share on our other commitments to address issues of police violence in the near future.

We must focus on reconciliation, understanding, listening—and yes, action.‬

‪This marks the beginning of a path toward real change in Philadelphia, and hopefully across America.‬”

Saturday’s protest began at 12 p.m. at the Art Museum before heading to City Hall and then back to the museum. There remained a large gathering at City Hall on Saturday evening.

The protest was organized by the Party for Socialism and Liberation. The group is asking for many things, including defunding police.

“It is disrupting the status quo,” Eugene Puryear, an organizer and founding member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, said. “And we believe that’s what’s needed to really force change. Not to take politicians at their word, but to say business, as usual, will not take place until it changes.”

Meanwhile, four members of Philadelphia’s City Council are calling for a cease and desist on police use of tear gas and rubber bullets less than a week after police say SWAT officers used tear gas and non-chemical white smoke to disperse a crowd of protesters from the Vine Street Expressway. An independent investigation into the use of tear gas is underway by City Controller Rebecca Rhynhart’s office.

On Friday, commie joo District Attorney Larry Krasner announced his intent to file aggravated assault charges against Philadelphia Police Staff Inspector Joseph Bologna after video shows him striking a protester with a baton.

The city is under a mandatory curfew for the eighth straight night until 6 a.m. Sunday.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, District Attorney Larry Krasner Criticize Group ‘Protecting’ Christopher Columbus Statue
June 14, 2020 at 12:50 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — A group of people gathered around a statue of Christopher Columbus in South Philadelphia over the weekend. They say they intended to protect it from vandals amid the recent protests despite criticism from the mayor.

Video showed people carrying baseball bats while a few others carried guns. Dozens of people were still standing guard near the statue Saturday night, but at one point, there were about 100 people there.

On Sunday, Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney wrote on Twitter that officials were aware of “groups of armed individuals ‘protecting'” the statue.

“All vigilantism is inappropriate, and these individuals only bring more danger to themselves and the city,” he wrote. “We are also aware of an apparent assault caught on video tape, as well as possible restrictions placed on journalists filming the event. These incidents are under investigation at this time.”

Philadelphia commie joo District Attorney Larry Krasner also tweeted about the group.

In Philadelphia, a city with a deep Italian heritage, Columbus is celebrated with an annual holiday parade, and supporters at the statue said they considered him an emblem of their heritage.

“It would be over my dead body before they got to this statue,” said Anthony Ruggiero, 41, wearing an Italia jersey. “This is a part of history.”

Statues of Columbus were earlier removed in nearby Camden, New Jersey, and Wilmington, Delaware.

Philadelphia Mayor Kenney Declares Juneteenth An Official City Holiday
By CBS3 Staff
June 16, 2020 at 7:30 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney has declared Juneteenth an official city holiday. The holiday commemorates the ending of slavery in America.

Kenney’s designation means all city offices and facilities will be closed to the public this Friday.

“For the past few years I’ve had the privilege of participating in our city’s annual Juneteenth parade and festival, which deepened my appreciation for this important holiday,” Kenney said. “Juneteenth has a unique cultural and historical significance; it symbolizes freedom, represents the triumph of emancipation, and marks a day of reflection. Now more than ever, it’s critically important to acknowledge America’s original sin of slavery—something we as a nation have never atoned for. The only way to dismantle the institutional racism and inequalities that continue to disenfranchise Black Philadelphians is to look critically at how we got here, and make much-needed changes to the governmental systems that allow inequality to persist. This designation of Juneteenth represents our administration’s commitment to reckon with our own role in maintaining racial inequities as well as our understanding of the magnitude of work that lies ahead.”

Earlier Tuesday, the Philadelphia School District joined the growing list of institutions closing for the celebration of Juneteenth.

The school district says it is closing in the spirit of solidarity and their continued commitment to anti-racism.

The University of Pennsylvania is also asking their community to take Juneteenth off for a day of reflection.

Philadelphia Officials Apologize For Using Tear Gas On Protesters; SWAT Officer In Viral Video Suspended With Intent To Dismiss
By Alecia Reid
June 25, 2020 at 5:45 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — New video has forced the mayor and police commissioner to make a public apology, deliver punishments and change the Philadelphia Police Department’s rules of engagement as a result of police’s use of tear gas on peaceful protesters on I-676 earlier this month.

Police Commissioner Danielle "Bug Eyes" Outlaw apologized multiple times during Thursday afternoon’s briefing and she says she’s committed to repairing the damage the incident has caused with the department’s already strained relationship with the community.

“I was disgusted on that day, I’m as disgusted as I am today,” Outlaw said.

Outlaw was visibly upset Thursday, apologizing for initially backing officers who used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse a crowd of protesters on I-676 on June 1.

“In the weeks that have followed, I have learned that relative to 676, those statements are substantially inaccurate,” Outlaw said. “As I have now personally viewed video evidence that largely contradicts the material portions of those statements. In making those statements, I relied on statements which was relayed to me after the initial deployment and for that, I humbly apologize for those who were directly impacted as well as to our communities at large.”

Outlaw also issued a moratorium on the use of tear gas on Thursday.

“Effective immediately, I am issuing a categorical moratorium on the use of tear gas for the dispersal or control of crowds, which includes any persons who are peacefully or passively resisting. We are also evaluating all other ammunitions available to SWAT personnel,” Outlaw said. “The only time we could consider deploying tear gas is in the case we are presented with an armed and dangerous individual.”

Deputy Commissioner Dennis Wilson, who was the incident commander, admitted to solely authorizing the use of tear gas and voluntarily stepped down, taking a demotion to the position he held previously as Chief Inspector.

“I, and I alone, gave the approval to use CS gas,” Wilson said. “I did this based on what I could see from my position and also what I had been hearing on the radio.”

Repercussions are also in store for a SWAT officer who was seen pepper-spraying three people kneeling on the ground on I-676. The officer will be issued a 30-day suspension with intent to dismiss.

“That officer is observed on video utilizing OC spray on civilians in violation of our policy,” Outlaw said. “He’s being charged departmentally with conduct unbecoming an officer, unauthorized and/or excessive use of force.”

Mayor Jim "Banana Nose" Kenney, who gave consent to the use of tear gas the day before on May 31 in West Philadelphia, says he’s regretted it ever since.

“Ever since seeing the video of the terrifying incident on I-676, I’ve regretted my decision from the day before. I also regret my statements that followed attempted to justify the use of tear gas,” Kenney said.

Kenney says what happened on June 1 is the opposite of healing and reconciliation between police and the community.

“There will be accountability for all of this,” Kenney said.

In addition to the police department’s actions announced Thursday, Philadelphia City Council announced its intention to hold hearings over the I-676 incident. That’s in addition to another independent investigation that’s been launched by the City Controller’s Office.

Philadelphia commie joo District Attorney Larry Krasner said confirmed Thursday that his office has received materials from the police department for “consideration” relating to the officer actions in the I-676 incident.

Krasner says his office considers the incident serious and they are reviewing the materials to see if further actions or charges are warranted.

So far, no timeline is set for his decision.

Fraternal Order of Police Philadelphia President John McNesby angrily reacted to Outlaw’s apology.

“The message to the officers is that nobody has their back, go out, get in your car, answer your radio, protect your community and be careful,” McNesby said. “Don’t do anything above and beyond because you’re not going to be backed by the city administration.”

McNesby added that he wants the police commissioner to apologize to the dozens of officers hurt during several days of protests.
