Police fear the man responsible for a series of sexual attacks in Riccarton will become more brazen and dangerous until he is caught.

In the past week the offender has assaulted six women and been found lurking in the women's toilets at Hagley Park.

Detective Jason Bracegirdle said the offender's attacks had progressed in their seriousness.

In the latest attack he grabbed an 18-year-old female while she sat in her ca
outside the Wharenui swimming pool complex.

"There is a tendency for these people to start and then get progressively worse (in their attacks)," Bracegirdle said.

Pub
licity about the attacks last week brought forward another woman who was attacked last Wednesday but had
not reported it.

The victims were female caucasians, aged between 18 and 40. All were attacked around the Riccarton area.

The offender was described as African with a hint of an English accent. He was between 18 and 25 years old, of slight build and 172cm (5ft 8in) tall.
