Sigonella sailor convicted on indecent assault charge
A Naval Air Station Sigonella-based sailor was convicted this week on indecent assault charges at a three-day special court-martial, Navy officials said.
A jury sentenced Petty Officer 2nd Class Jovan Williams, 24, to three months? confinement, forfeiture of $1,123 a month for three months, and a bad-conduct discharge, officials reported.
The court-martial was held at the U.S. Navy base on the Italian island of Sicily.
Williams faced a maximum punishment of a year?s confinement, reduction to the lowest pay grade of E-1, forfeiture of two-thirds of his pay for a year, and a bad-conduct discharge. The charge stemmed from a Feb. 4 incident off-base involving a female enlisted sailor who was also stationed at NAS Sigonella.

k and breast without her consent,? according to an e-mail from Chief Petty Officer John Musser, a public affairs officer for Navy Region Europe. The incident occurred along the SS-192, the main roadway connecting Naval Air Station I with the city of Catania.
According to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, indecent assault is defined as a crime committed against a person who is not the accused?s spouse with the intent to gratify sexual desires.
The jury?s conviction and sentence now rests with Capt. Bob Lally, commander of Task Force 67, who must decide whether to uphold the ruling.
