Affidavit: 21-year-old Polk Co. man sexually assaulted, impregnated 14-year-old girl by Gary Bass

LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) -
Polk County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 21-year-old man Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and getting her pregnant.

Jamal Ato Carter is still being held in the Polk County jail on a second-degree felony charge of sexual assault of a child. His bail has been set at $10,000.

According to the arrest affidavit, the alleged sexual assault occurred sometime between June and July at a residence off of FM 3277 in Polk County. The sexual assault was reported to the Polk County Sheriff's Office on Sept. 27.

A forensic interview was conducted with the 14-year-old victim at Childrenz Haven in Polk County. During the interview, the girl said she was three months pregnant, and that Carter is the father of her child, the affidavit stated.

Later, Carter came to the sheriff's department and gave his side of the story. He told the investigator that he was "very drunk" one night and woke up to find the 14-year-old naked and on top of him, according to the affidavit. Carter said, at that time, he still had his boxers, and he could not remember if they had sex or not.

Carter also told the investigator that the girl had told him she was 17 years old.

However, another PCSO detective interviewed the three other people that were at the house the night the alleged sexual assault occurred. They said Carter knew the girl was 14 years old, and he told one of them he had sex with the girl, the affidavit stated.
