MINNEAPOLIS - Court records show a Minneapolis man accused of raping a 10-year-old girl has a history of mental illness.

Thirty-four-year-old Ahmed Hersi Abdi was charged Tuesday with two felony counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. He's accused of raping the girl Sunday in the hallway of the Riverside Plaza apartment complex.

Minnesota Public Radio News reports that Abdi was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was committed for treatment last year.

The Hennepin County District Court initially ordered Abdi to be committed until this May and later extended the order to November. But he was discharged from the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview in January.

In August, the court revoked the discharge and ordered Abdi to return to psychiatric in-patient care.

A Fairview spokesman declined to comment due to privacy concerns.

Bloomington Police Issue Alert on Level 3 Predatory Offender Residing in Local Community

The Bloomington Police Department in Minnesota has issued an important community alert concerning a Level 3 Predatory Offender. According to a social media post from the department, residents are being informed about Ahmed Hersi Abdi, who resides on the 8100 block of Bloomington Ave S. The notification is part of the BPD's commitment to ensuring a safer community through vigilance and transparency regarding predatory offenders.

Abdi's criminal history includes engaging in sexual contact with an unknown female child back in 2016, a contact that involved penetration. The BPD's post detailed that Abdi accessed the victim when they rode together in an elevator, and subsequently moved with her into a vacant hallway where he used shock and force to quickly maintain control. This incident underlines the department’s ongoing efforts to proactively share information that can help prevent future offenses.

Level 3 offenders are considered to have a high risk of re-offending, and law enforcement agencies are obliged to make the presence of these offenders known to the public. The BPD has adopted an aggressive posture concerning the verification of predatory offender registration information and in making this data available to community members.

A video accompanying the alert provides further details on Abdi and the circumstances of his crime. The BPD encourages community members to stay informed and to partake in maintaining vigilance. While the video is accessible through the provided URL, residents can also directly reach out to local law enforcement for additional information or if they have any concerns. The integration of community and law enforcement efforts stands as a pivotal measure to foster a safe environment for all residents.

You can see the wisdom in his slanted eyes. He looks like a (nigger) owl!
