Terror-loving teacher gets 15 years for selling guns

He once taught high school music but embraced heavy metal on the side.
A terror-loving former Stuyvesant High School teacher was sentenced to 15 years in prison Thursday for dealing guns and drugs to undercover agents he thought were Hamas loyalists.
Bronx prosecutors said Theophilis Burroughs, 54, began selling firearms to agents in 2009 and loudly proclaimed his endorsement of various Middle Eastern terror groups.
The father of two also purchased 27,000 cartons of illegal cigarettes as part of his illicit trade and sold oxycodone to undercover detectives, according to Bronx prosecutors.
“It is particularly disturbing when someone who is tasked with educating our young commits crimes,” said Bronx DA Robert Johnson. “It is more disturbing that he did so complicit in the belief he was promoting terrorism.”
The sting was centered around a Westchester Square warehouse that was outfitted with video and audio recording equipment that captured his activity.
The rogue teacher also offered to sell agents explosive devices, night vision goggles, gunpowder and other drugs, according to court papers.
“During many hours of video and audiotaped meetings, Burroughs believed that the individuals with whom he was dealing were connected to Hamas,” according to the Bronx DA.
He was arrested along with 14 other suspects after a yearlong investigation.
Burroughs had originally agreed to a 10-year term in exchange for a guilty plea but was smacked with the stiffer sentence after he reneged on that deal.
