A trainee doctor was left paralysed when a man landed on her after jumping from the third floor of a shopping centre.

Grace Spence Green, 22, a keen climber, needs a wheelchair after suffering a fractured spine when Amsumana Sillah Trawally fell from a height of up to 120ft inside Westfield shopping centre
in Stratford.

The 25-year-old, from east London, spent several hours choosing a spot at the shopping centre to jump from and suffered just a broken leg as Ms Green broke his fall.

He was jailed last week.

Ms Green, who studied medicine at King's College London, was on her way to teach children at a climbing class when she was crushed by Trawlly in October 17 last year.

Terrence Donovan, Ms Green's lawyer, told the Standard she takes comfort in the fact she saved Trawally's life:confused::confused: and is now focused on continuing with her medical career.

He said: "She finds it very difficult to talk about him.

"But she has an amazing view that even though she was injured she managed to save a life.

Trawally admitted causing grievous bodily harm and was sentenced to four years.
