Cops: Accused Rapist Followed Victim Off Bus
Minneapolis (WCCO) A 45-year-old man is accused of following a woman off a metro bus and raping her at knifepoint, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Richard Allen Thompson faces two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with an assault that took place Sunday in Uptown Minneapolis, according to court documents.
The victim told police the suspect moved from his seat to sit next to her after she got on the bus. She said he followed her off the bus and attempted to engage her in conversation as she walked westbound on Lagoon Avenue.

The suspect allegedly pulled her over to a grassy area in the vicinity of Lagoon and Knox Avenue South, pushed her down and sexually assaulted her.
The victim ran off after the incident and called 911, court papers said. The suspect was apprehended at a bus shelter.
If convicted on both counts, Thompson faces a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison and an $80,000 fine.
Thompson is in police custody.
