CORPUS CHRISTI - A Corpus Christi nurse turns up dead near Beeville. Now, the search is on for her killer. 45-year-old Debra Slough was found shot to death Monday morning in Bee County . She was last seen alive at Christus Spohn Shoreline Sunday afternoon, just before leaving work at 3:30. Her body was found in Bee County on County Road 322 Monday morning, about 70 miles away.

Authorities said they are treating this case as a possible abduction that led to murder. The key to this

chilling crime may be in surveillance video from the parking garage at Christus Spohn Shoreline and a
Circle K convenience store, where Slough was supposed to stop after getting off work Sunday afternoon. From Corpus Christi to Beeville, authorities are trying to solve this murder mystery. The gruesome discovery was made Monday morning on a rural county road in Bee County.

"We realized she was a white female wearing hospital scrubs. We contacted the local hospitals to see if anyone was missing, and C.C. had received a report of a missing person," said Bee County Sheriff Carlos Carrizales. That missing person was Christus Spohn Shoreline cardiac nurse Debra Slough.

She was supposed to return home Sunday afternoon, but never made it, and she never reported to work Monday. Investigators now are pinpointing her slough's last whereabouts.

"We don't know what exactly happened. It could have been an abduction," Carrizales said. "We don't know. We&#39
;re
stil
l looking into that. But we do know one of the last locations she was seen was somewhere around the hospital or the convenience store there
in Corpus." Investigators are working to solve this crime in Corpus, Beeville and Austin and so far they can't find any reason Slough would have been in Beeville.

Slough was well known around the hospital. You can imagine everyone is on edge, and there is a high presence of security at the hospital.

Meantime, Debra's friends and family are in shock. Those closest to Debra Slough can't fathom why anyone would want to hurt her.

"We have been robbed," said her best friend and co-worker Kris Hungate. "We, as of today, as of yesterday, my life, the life of other people that she knew, will never be the same." Debbie as she was known, was a loving wife, a mother of three and devoted to her family.

"She was the most wonderful, the most giving, loving sister-in-law anybody can ask for," said
her sis
ter-in-l
aw Libby Schwanke.

Debbie worked up on the tenth floor of the cardiac unit at Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital . Over the years, she treated thousands of patients saving hundreds of lives
. That's why her friends and family can't believe she herself would die so senselessly."

"She was a wonderful nurse. Used the caring and the compassion of her life and passed it on to everybody. And nobody will ever be the same," Hungate said. They said, although Debbie's life was tragically cut too short, her accomplishments were big. "20 years in the hospital. 16 years being a mother. 20 years being a wife. A lifetime being a family member and more than 10 years being my best friend. I can't say anymore."

More than anything right now, they're hoping and praying whoever was responsible for her tragic death is caught and brought to justice. Catching her killer may center on finding Slough 's vehicle, police say it's still missing.

It&#39
;s a 2001 To
wn and Country Chrysler Minivan. The license plate is P74-MDZ. The white van has a King High School bumper sticker in the back.

If you see the vehicle, you're urged to call Corpus Christi Police at 886-2600.

Police find Debra Slough's van, arrest driver

CORPUS CHRISTI - Police in Eagle Pass, Texas arrest a man they said was driving the van of murdered Corpus Christi nurse Debra Slough. Slough was last seen on Sunday afternoon, leaving Christus Spohn Shoreline after her shift ended.

Then on Monday morning her body was found in Bee County, on County Road 322, just west of Beeville. T

hen Saturday night, a traffic stop turned into a police pursuit. It ended in a car accident in Eagle Pass
, near the US/Mexico border.

The vehicle was Slough 's missing 2001 minivan. The driver was taken into custody. Eagle Pass police have identified the suspect as 29-year-old Jesus Francisco Alvarez. He's being held on numerous charges including evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, failure to stop and render aid along with resisting arrest. At this time he has not been charged with Slough 's murder.

The 45-year-old nurse was found up in Beeville, dead of a single gunshot wound to the head. Her family members said they do not recognize the name of Jesus Alvarez, but they're relieved to know there may be a break in this case.

"This was almost like a saving grace to hear this news today and we hope it's going to lead to the capture of whoever kidnapped her," said Deborah's sister-in-law Sandra Brown.

"We've spen
t ni
ghts
wondering where is that van? How can we find that van? Now that the van has been found we just have some peace," said family friend Susan Pete
rson. "It has been stressful because we've been wondering why and who could have done this to her. She was such a sweet and kind and loving person, a wonderful mother and we just want to find out who did this. Why did they do this because now these three little girls don't have anyone...a mother to raise them."

Eagle Pass police said when Alvarez was arrested he did give a Corpus Christi address, but authorities in Eagle Pass recognized the man, because they had numerous run-ins with him when he was a juvenile.

Bee county investigators don't know if Alvarez had anything to do with Debra Slough's murder. Sheriff Carlos Carrizales said they will be sending a team to Eagle Pass to interview Alvarez and look for evidence inside the van, to see if they can unearth any more clues into what's been called a very
frustrat
ing case
.

When Eagle Pass police arrested Alvarez, they found he has an outstanding warrant for a parole violation.

Thank You for posting the story about the White Nurse from Corpus Christi, Texas, who was abducted in September 2005 from a parking garage by a Mexican, drove 70 miles away, robbed and shot in the head. I knew her and she didn't deserve this. She was the kind of person who made everyone around her feel like they were her best friend. Debbie was a Cardiac Nurse and leaves behind a husband and 3 daughters. No trial date has been set of as yet. I hope they hang the creep by his balls!
