CORPUS CHRISTI - A Corpus Christi nurse turns up dead near Beeville. Now, the search is on for her killer. 45-year-old Debra Slough was found shot to death Monday morning in Bee County . She was last seen alive at Christus Spohn Shoreline Sunday afternoon, just before leaving work at 3:30. Her body was found in Bee County on County Road 322 Monday morning, about 70 miles away.
Authorities said they are treating this case as a possible abduction that led to murder. The key to this
chilling crime may be in surveillance video from the parking garage at Christus Spohn Shoreline and a
Circle K convenience store, where Slough was supposed to stop after getting off work Sunday afternoon. From Corpus Christi to Beeville, authorities are trying to solve this murder mystery. The gruesome discovery was made Monday morning on a rural county road in Bee County.
"We realized she was a white female wearing hospital scrubs. We contacted the local hospitals to see if anyone was missing, and C.C. had received a report of a missing person," said Bee County Sheriff Carlos Carrizales. That missing person was Christus Spohn Shoreline cardiac nurse Debra Slough.
She was supposed to return home Sunday afternoon, but never made it, and she never reported to work Monday. Investigators now are pinpointing her slough's last whereabouts.
"We don't know what exactly happened. It could have been an abduction," Carrizales said. "We don't know. We'
;re
stil
l looking into that. But we do know one of the last locations she was seen was somewhere around the hospital or the convenience store there
in Corpus." Investigators are working to solve this crime in Corpus, Beeville and Austin and so far they can't find any reason Slough would have been in Beeville.
Slough was well known around the hospital. You can imagine everyone is on edge, and there is a high presence of security at the hospital.
Meantime, Debra's friends and family are in shock. Those closest to Debra Slough can't fathom why anyone would want to hurt her.
"We have been robbed," said her best friend and co-worker Kris Hungate. "We, as of today, as of yesterday, my life, the life of other people that she knew, will never be the same." Debbie as she was known, was a loving wife, a mother of three and devoted to her family.
"She was the most wonderful, the most giving, loving sister-in-law anybody can ask for," said
her sis

aw Libby Schwanke.
Debbie worked up on the tenth floor of the cardiac unit at Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital . Over the years, she treated thousands of patients saving hundreds of lives
. That's why her friends and family can't believe she herself would die so senselessly."
"She was a wonderful nurse. Used the caring and the compassion of her life and passed it on to everybody. And nobody will ever be the same," Hungate said. They said, although Debbie's life was tragically cut too short, her accomplishments were big. "20 years in the hospital. 16 years being a mother. 20 years being a wife. A lifetime being a family member and more than 10 years being my best friend. I can't say anymore."
More than anything right now, they're hoping and praying whoever was responsible for her tragic death is caught and brought to justice. Catching her killer may center on finding Slough 's vehicle, police say it's still missing.
