Woman attacked by roommate makes progress in recovery

MIAMI -- The 23-year-old woman who was beaten into a coma by her roommate is now taking small steps towards her recovery.
Danielle Jones was in a coma for three weeks after being attacked by her roommate, Byron Mitchell on Feb. 14. Despite her injuries, Jones is slowly making progress as she recovers.
Jones was able to venture outside into the sunlight for the first time after her attack. "I enjoy outside. It looks nice," she said, struggling to get her words out.
Jones' mother, Aimee Cabo Nikolov, is elated to see her daughter make progress. "It is the most wonderful feeling to know that she's getting better, and prayers are working," she said. "People have been praying. God has been working on her and now she's outside for the first time. She's starting to walk-- I couldn't be happier."
Nikolov took a video of Jones taking her first steps in the hospital. "Twenty-four days in a coma, she finally responded to command," she said. "A few days later, she started talking, and she has full sentences, and she's starting physical therapy. Now she's been transferred to rehabilitation-- to the floor of rehabilitation. Everyone said it's a miracle."
Jones has received support from many following her story. "A lot of people have been watching it," she said.
Jones still has a long road to a full recovery, but her family is enjoying every bit of progress that is made.

Danielle Jones has been unconscious since her 23rd birthday on Valentine's Day when Byron Mitchell, 35, allegedly attacked her in their Miami, Florida, apartment just a week after he responded to her ad on Craigslist. Mitchell has been charged with attempted murder as Jones remains in a coma in hospital with a brain injury and scars all over her face and neck. Now, as Jones's family tries to raise funds for her recovery with a GoFundMe page, police have uncovered information that suggests Jones had started a relationship with Mitchell. - (Black-on-white)
