At this time, police say they are not ready to release additional information regarding that suspect. .

Two Detroit EMS workers were on the job late last night when they were stabbed and slashed in the face while trying to help someone, according to police.

Detroit — A 30-year-old Detroit man who was arrested Tuesday night in connection with the stabbing attack on two Detroit first responders was formally arraigned in court Wednesday for unrelated crimes.

Michael Montgomery was arraigned Wednesday in 36th District Court for two violent sexual assaults that date back to 2005 and 2006, the latter of which ended in a fatal stabbing. He was arraigned via video conference.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Montgomery with first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree felony murder and first-degree criminal sexual conduct in the Jan. 1, 2006, killing of a 16-year-old Detroit girl. The first-degree murder charge carries a penalty of life in prison.

Magistrate Laura Echartea entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.

She also ordered Montgomery held without bond. “Because of the nature of the charges I cannot give you a bond,” she said. “You will be remanded to the county jail.”

Echartea scheduled his next court appearance on the matter for next Oct. 28 for a probable cause conference. She scheduled a preliminary exam in his case for Nov. 4.

Montgomery said little during the proceedings, only speaking to answer the judge’s questions about his name and whether he understood his rights and his bond.

Prosecutors say Montgomery sexually assaulted and fatally stabbed the girl in the rear of a location on the 19800 block of Joy Road.

Montgomery may also face two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, torture and felony firearm stemming from the Dec. 23, 2005, kidnapping of a 33-year-old Detroit woman in an alley on the 8600 block of Auburn. There, he allegedly tortured and sexually assaulted the woman.

Montgomery has not been charged in the attack on the Detroit first responders as of Wednesday morning. Prosecutors said they have not received a warrant request in the case yet.

Meanwhile, the conditions of the two emergency medical technicians attacked by a suspect wielding a razor-sharp object have improved.

Kelly Adams, 49, is in fair condition and Alfredo Rojas, 25, is in good condition, said Ruth Kremer, a spokeswoman for Detroit Receiving Hospital, on Wednesday.

The two were listed in serious condition Tuesday evening.
