Tuesday, October 13th 2020
BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) — Update: Oct. 15 - Antwon Smith has been charged with capital murder and has been denied bond.
The judge and prosecutors agreed Antwon would be a flight risk, pointing to his criminal history that includes nine prior felony convictions out of Florida. Four of those convictions are drug and weapons related, including a time when he was caught trespassing on FBI property in Mobile.
Smith also faces charges in Mobile.
Prosecutors described the double murders in Elberta as "execution style." Both victims were shot four times. Autopsy shows victims had gunshot wounds to the back and the to the back of their heads.
Prosecutors believe the killings took place in Baldwin County.
Antwon Smith is sitting in a jail in Mobile but will soon be extradited to Baldwin County where he's accused of murdering Ryan Frazier and Joshua Carroll. Both are from Seattle, Washington and were in the area installing fiberoptic cable. Investigators say they were shot and killed during a drug deal.
“Mr. Frazier and Mr. Carroll were shot several times and left for dead on the side of County Road 95 in Elberta, Alabama,” said Lt. Andre Reid Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit Commander.
Reid says on Saturday officers from Mobile's 3rd precinct spotted Smith in one of the victim's cars and took him into custody.
“They seized a firearm, a 9mm firearm. They seized drugs. They seized cash and of course, recovered our stolen vehicle. Inside the vehicle was a significant amount of blood, blood stains,” said Reid.
Investigators from Crestview, Florida also announced Smith is a person of interest in the disappearance of Calandra Stallworth.
“We hope with the arrest of Antwon Smith it will spark new information about Calandra’s disappearance,” Sgt. Joshua Grace. “Anyone who may have information, who may have heard something, we are hoping they will come forward now that he's been placed under arrest.”
No one has heard from Stallworth since March 2017 and was last seen with Smith.
