3 suspects sought in north Seattle shooting that left man dead
2/24/14

SEATTLE – A man was found shot to death in a parking lot in North Seattle near the Greenwood Fred Meyer, according to Detective Renee Witt.

The Seattle Times reports the victim is 54-year-old David L. Peterson, the husband of Kimberly Peterson who works at the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Around 9:00 Sunday night, dispatchers received calls of shots fired in the area of N. 85th Street and 1st NW Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a man seated in his car in a parking lot.

The victim had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Seattle Fire Department.

Witnesses saw several suspects running away from the area. Police are only able to provide vague descriptions of the three suspects: a black man, 20-30 years old, 5-foot-10, thin and wearing a North Face jacket; a short black male; and a white woman.

Police believe there may have been a robbery before the shooting.

SEATTLE —

Witnesses said the suspects who shot and killed a Seattle man for his cellphone may be the same group that robbed a Greenwood restaurant minutes before.

Police are looking for three suspects after 54-year-old David L. Peterson was found shot to death in his car in a parking lot shortly after calling 911 Sunday.

Dispatchers received the call shortly before 9 p.m. from Peterson in North Seattle as he was being robbed for his cellphone at gunpoint. When police arrived, they found him dead.

Peterson was parked north of First Avenue Northwest and North 85th Street in Seattle. Police blocked off the parking lot of Bartell Drugs and part of First Avenue.

Police said he had a single gunshot wound to his body.

While investigators combed the parking lot for clues, others scoured the area for the gunman.

Police said that three suspects were seen running away from the area and that robbery appeared to be the motive in the shooting.

The suspects are described as a black man who is 20-30 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a North Face jacket. A second black man, described only as short, and a white woman, are also suspects, but no further descriptions were available.

byron.jpg

Seattle, Wash. —

Seattle police sources confirm to KIRO-7, they are searching for 17-year-old Byron White in connection with the murder of 54-year-old David Peterson.

Peterson called 911 from his cell phone reporting he was being robbed while on his daily walk Sunday evening. Police believe the robbers took Peterson’s cell phone and then shot him. Peterson was found on a sidewalk next to a busy retail strip mall.

Sources say White is a transient and has been known to stay in homes from Greenwood to Ballard.

On Friday night, Seattle SWAT officers surrounded a home on 4th Avenue Northwest, a few blocks from where the murder happened. SPD confirmed the search warrant was executed to find evidence in the murder of David Peterson. Detectives will not say what they found, but they did remove bags of evidence from the home. Peterson’s cell phone was the only item taken from him when he was shot.

A man who lives at the address told KIRO-7 the murder suspect visited his 18-year-old nephew in the home days before.

As of midnight Friday, SPD public information officers would not officially release the name of the murder suspect. Sources tell KIRO-7 they’re confident White is the suspect they want to question
