Airport screener charged with stealing money from passenger
PHILADELPHIA - A screener at Philadelphia International Airport was charged by federal authorities Tuesday with stealing $335 from a passen
er who was passing through a security checkpoint.
Nathan Cox, 34, of Philadelphia, was screening passengers and their bags at the airport's Terminal E on Feb. 16 when he allegedly stole the money
from the belongings of a person who passed through his checkpoint, according to court documents
filed in U.S. District Court.
Airport spokesman Mark Pesce referred questions to the federal Transportation Security Administration, Cox's employer. Ann Davis, the agency's Northeast regional spokeswoman, declined to disclose whether Cox, an airport screener since October 2002, had been suspended or fired.
If convicted, he faces up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine, authorities said.
A telephone message left at Cox's home Tuesday afternoon was not immediately returned. It was unclear whether he had a lawyer.
