EDWARDSVILLE — The search in Edwardsville for a missing St. Louis woman started Thursday morning but by afternoon, her body was found by other volunteers searching in northern Illinois, according to authorities.

About two dozen people gathered at the Phillips 66 on Illinois Route 143 near Interstate 55 to search for the body of 29-year-old Marquisha Williams, who was last seen with her ex-boyfriend Trenton Ivy on Dec. 20, according to search party organizers.

Williams, a medical technician from Missouri, had been missing since she took her children to school that day and didn’t report to her shift that morning at work.

She was last seen with Ivy in her 2020 Jeep Compass.

On Friday, Dec. 22, it was reported that Ivy, a 31-year-old, was arrested in Racine, Wisconsin, for unrelated charges. In a search of Williams’ Jeep Compass, detectives found blood and other biological material inside the vehicle, according to police reports.

Ivy allegedly admitted that he had killed Williams during a physical altercation and disposed of her body in an unknown location.

The pair had four children together.

On Thursday afternoon, Illinois State Police located a deceased female who was identified as Williams. No further information was released immediately.

The search party in Edwardsville on Thursday was focused on six key areas, all exits along Interstate 55. The group was searching Exit 30 (Greenville and Hamel), Exit 33 (Staunton and Lebanon), Exit 37 (Livingston and New Douglas), Exit 41 (Staunton) and Exit 44 (Mount Olive and Benld), as well as the Homestead Rest Area Northbound.

Exit 41 for Staunton was a key area of interest, as it was allegedly known that Ivy had stayed in the Super 8 on Herman Road in Staunton, news reports indicated.

The search party planned to search a one-mile radius east and west of each exit. The goal of the volunteers was to bring closure to her family, they said.

St. Louis mom's ex-boyfriend admits to killing her after he's found in her bloodstained SUV

The ex-boyfriend of a Missouri woman who was reported missing was arrested last week and charged with her death after he admitted killing her in an altercation, police said.

Marquisha Williams' family reported her missing on Dec. 20, St. Louis County police said in a news release. Her relatives told detectives she was last seen with Trenton Ivy, her ex-boyfriend, in her Jeep Compass.

Two days after Williams disappeared, Ivy was arrested in Racine, Wisconsin, on charges of resisting an officer, fleeing an officer in a vehicle and using a dangerous weapon. Authorities said that he was in Williams' vehicle and that there was "blood and biological material" in the Jeep, as well as her personal belongings.

Williams' body was found Thursday by Illinois State Police.

In an interview with Racine police, Ivy "admitted to killing Williams in St. Louis," the news release alleges.

"The defendant further admitted to having a physical altercation with Williams, which resulted in her death. He then admitted to disposing of her body in an unknown location," police said.

Williams, 29, was the mother of four children, her aunt told NBC affiliate KSDK of St. Louis.

"Marquisha was very, very sweet, calm and nice," Sandy Bagley said. "She loved her kids and we all loved being around her."

Bagley said that on the day Williams disappeared, security video showed Williams and Ivy dropping off their 2-year-old son at a day care center. The pair had broken up this year and were trying to co-parent, she said.

The family became suspicious when Williams failed to pick up her children.

"We knew something was wrong. She is always on time when she picks up her children," Bagley told the station. "We searched in the woods and all along Interstate 55. We just want to find her, lay her to rest and try to start healing. We want Trent to tell us: Where is Marquisha?"

Ivy, 31, is being held at the Racine County Jail. He faces a first-degree murder charge in St. Louis County.
