EDWARDSVILLE — The search in Edwardsville for a missing St. Louis woman started Thursday morning but by afternoon, her body was found by other volunteers searching in northern Illinois, according to authorities.
About two dozen people gathered at the Phillips 66 on Illinois Route 143 near Interstate 55 to search for the body of 29-year-old Marquisha Williams, who was last seen with her ex-boyfriend Trenton Ivy on Dec. 20, according to search party organizers.
Williams, a medical technician from Missouri, had been missing since she took her children to school that day and didn’t report to her shift that morning at work.
She was last seen with Ivy in her 2020 Jeep Compass.
On Friday, Dec. 22, it was reported that Ivy, a 31-year-old, was arrested in Racine, Wisconsin, for unrelated charges. In a search of Williams’ Jeep Compass, detectives found blood and other biological material inside the vehicle, according to police reports.
Ivy allegedly admitted that he had killed Williams during a physical altercation and disposed of her body in an unknown location.
The pair had four children together.
On Thursday afternoon, Illinois State Police located a deceased female who was identified as Williams. No further information was released immediately.
The search party in Edwardsville on Thursday was focused on six key areas, all exits along Interstate 55. The group was searching Exit 30 (Greenville and Hamel), Exit 33 (Staunton and Lebanon), Exit 37 (Livingston and New Douglas), Exit 41 (Staunton) and Exit 44 (Mount Olive and Benld), as well as the Homestead Rest Area Northbound.
Exit 41 for Staunton was a key area of interest, as it was allegedly known that Ivy had stayed in the Super 8 on Herman Road in Staunton, news reports indicated.
The search party planned to search a one-mile radius east and west of each exit. The goal of the volunteers was to bring closure to her family, they said.
