Back in 1999, 13 babies were abandoned in Houston. Three of them were found dead. That same year, 'Safe Haven' legislation became effective, providing a mother with an alternative to abandonment. The law allows a mother to voluntarily deliver a newborn under 30 days of age to a licensed emergency medical services provider without threat of criminal prosecution. That includes hospitals and fire st
tions.

The only reason laws exist is so negroes can break them.

Milwaukee Parents To Stand Trial For Baby's Death

MILWAUKEE -- A couple accused of killing their baby during a struggle over where he should sleep must stand trial on child abuse charges.

Prosecutors said 3-month-old Denzel Davis died of head injuries after his parents engaged in a tug-of-war over which side of their bed the baby would
sleep on.

Brandon Davis (pictured, right), 40, and Annette O'Neal (pictured, below), 38, walked into court to face child abuse charges in the death of their infant son Denzel.

Police said the baby was in bed with his father two weeks ago at the family's south side Milwaukee home when O'Neal went to bed and tried to put the baby on
her side of the bed.

Davis wanted the baby to sleep in the middle, police said.

Police said the parents admitted to pulling the baby back and forth for several minutes and that the madder they got, the more force they used.

Prosecutors decided to charge the parents on child abuse charges instead of homicide.

They are scheduled to be back in court next week to enter pleas.

If convicted, each of them faces up to 3â┚¬Ã…¡ÃƒÆ’”Å¡½ years in prison.

David Walden, 28, of Lindenwold, N.J., has been charged with murder.

Authorities said that he struck his daughter Kira several times in the abdomen and head.

An autopsy found the baby had several other older injuries, including broken ribs, a broken collar bone and a scar on her chest.

Police said Walden watched the girl Saturday at his gi
rlfriend's apartment. The mother worked all day and into early Sunday morning at a restaurant.

Police said Walden call
ed 911 shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday to report the child was unresponsive.

Mom's friend accused of boy's murder

CONCORD --Police charged a man Wednesday with first-degree murder in the weekend death of his girlfriend's 22-month-old son.

Trevor Lawrence Brown, 21, of 4018 Concord Pointe Lane, is in the Cabarrus County jail with bond.

Concord Police and emergency medical workers responded around 8 a.m. Sunday to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive baby at Brown's address, a press release said.

The infant, Alexander Johnson Christmas, was pronounced dead at the scene after efforts to revive the him were unsuccessful.

Alexander's mother, Tanya Yvette Johnson,
r
told authorities she called 911 after waking that morning and finding her son unresponsive. Johnson also said the
baby had been vomiting the night before.

An autopsy performed in Charlotte determined that Alexander died because of internal damage to his intestinal tract caused by a traumatic blow to his torso, the press release said.

Authorities arrested Brown, who is not the child's father, at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The investigation is continuing, the press release said, and police wouldn't release further details at this time "to prevent compromise of police efforts and prosecution of the defendant."

3-Year-Old Dies After Suspected Child Abuse, Authorities Say

EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. -- Authorities have arrested two people in connection with the death of a 3-year-old boy.

The state Medical Examiner said 3-year-old Jaheim Cooper's body shut down because of severe pain that was never treated.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office said Friday that Lawanda Cooper, 19, and her boyfriend, Osborne Bennett, 23, of Mast Lane in Battleboro, were charged with the first-degree murder of Cooper's son, Jaheim Cooper.

According to authorities, an emergency crew transported the boy to Nash General Hospital after Cooper called the sheriff's office sa
ying that her son was not breathing. The child later died at the hospital.

Hospital officials later reported s
igns of child abuse to authorities, who then arrested Cooper and Bennett, according to a statement from the sheriff's office. They are being held at the Edgecombe County Detention Center without bond.

Lawanda Cooper and Osborne Bennett have been charged with the first-degree murder of Cooper's son.

During an interview with Cooper, investigators said they learned that two weeks ago, Bennett had placed the child in a hot tub of water as a punishment, which left him with severe burns on his body.

Cooper said that the child was taken to a hospital but was sent back home. Authorities said they later found that neither Cooper nor Bennett sought any medical attention for the child.

The state medical examiner said Friday that Jaheim's body shut down because of severe pain that was never treated. They say that if it
had been, the boy may have survived.

Jaheim's father, Jamal Wooten, told WRAL that he had not seen his son for several months.

[color=
red]"I'm surprised at her because they said he was burned so bad his skin was coming off," Wooten said.

Officers said that the couple also has a 4-month-old child, who was taken into custody by the county's Department of Social Services. Officials are now trying to find out if there was a history of abuse.

Mother charged in child's death

An Orangeburg mother whose infant drowned in a bathtub was arrested Thursday, charged with negligence in the child's death.

Latoya Joe, 23, has been charged in the death of her four-month-old son, who died in August after being found unconscious in a bathtub, said Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Capt. Mike Adams.

Based on the investigation and consultation with the solicitor's office, we felt the action of the mother passed the threshold of criminal neglect, Adams said. So the mother was charged with involuntary manslaughter.

The difference between a

n involuntary manslaughter charge and a murder charge is the intent, 1st Cir
cuit Solicitor David Pascoe said. Involuntary manslaughter is an unintentional death caused by reckless or criminal negligence, he said.

"t carries a (maximum) five year sentence, Pascoe said.

On Aug. 27, EMS personnel were notified that a Charlotte Circle infant was experiencing breathing difficulties. Emergency workers arrived to find four-month-old Noah Neals unresponsive.

The child was transported to The Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Neals' body was later sent to a pathologist in Newberry for an autopsy.

Afterward, investigators were called in to determine if the child's death was an accident or foul play. Police learned the infant was in a bathtub at the time of his death.

"t was a child's tub placed inside a bathtub, Adams said. And the mother left the four-month-old unattended.

The Charlotte Street woman is expected to have a
bon
d he
aring some time today.

Certainly, it's a tragedy when a
child dies, Adams said. What makes it more of a tragedy is the fact that the mother put the child in a life-threatening situation.

Det. Sgt. Victor Cordon is leading the ongoing investigation.

Man In Psych Ward; Daughter Found Dead

CINCINNATI -- A Tri-State man is in the psychiatric ward of a local hospital, accused of killing his young daughter and then dumping her body in a park, News 5 reported.

Darius Myrick allegedly made threatening comments about his 19-month-old daughter, Aliyah, and then took her from her mother late Thursday, police said.

"I heard someone screaming, 'He stole my baby. Please call the police,'" neighbor Elizabeth Morgan said. "When I looked o

ut, I saw a black male carrying the baby, running down the street."

Morgan tried to help Aliyah's mother, Lanetta Myrick, get the child back.

"I c
ame outside and tried to chase the guy in my car, and the mother got in my car," Morgan said.

They caught up with Darius Myrick down the block.

"At that point, we got out and tried to coax him into giving us the child," Morgan said. "He wouldn't, so we called 911."

Police issued an Amber Alert for Aliyah Myrick overnight Thursday, and a man who said he knows Darius Myrick told police he saw him near Inwood Park in Mount Auburn Friday morning.

"We grew up down the street, and this is the park we would hang out at," his sister, Danyelle Myrick, said.

He was later arrested at Central Parkway and Vine Street.

Police said they recovered the child's body in the park just more than an hour later.

"She's laying with her head towa
rd V
ine Street and her body facing south," Chief Tom Streicher said. "I couldn't see any obvious of trauma."

He also said it appeared that Aliyah had been dead for a few hours.

Police said Darius Myrick will face charges once he's released from t
he hospital.

'He Should've Gotten Help'

Several people close to the case told News 5 that Myrick had been acting strangely -- not only over the past few days, but ever since he wrapped up a seven-year stint with the U.S. Coast Guard.

"When he got out of the service, something was wrong with him," Danyelle Myrick said. "He should've gotten help then."

Myrick signed a court document last year using the name Jesus Christ, and in the basement of his McMicken Street apartment, he would sleep on a cardboard bed in a storage room scattered with pornography magazines -- and a Bible.

"He didn't exhibit normal behavior," Corry Owens, Myrick
's c
ousin, said. "He was erratic. I think he's delusional."

Morgan said Myrick was showing some of this behavior when she confronted him with his wife, Lanetta.

"He was saying, mumbling, something like, 'She's the devil,' talking about the mom, saying, 'She's the devil,' and some other nonsense I couldn't really make out," M
organ said
.

"He referred to baby's mother as being Satan, so [Aliyah] is daughter of Satan," Streicher said.

Norfolk Police Arrest Mother and Grandmother in Death of Infant

Norfolk police have charged a 17-year old mother and a 46-year old grandmother with murder in connection with the death of a seven-week old infant Thursday afternoon.

According to authorities, paramedics were called to a home in the 900 block of St. Paul Street around 5:00pm on reports of an unconscious infant.

The baby, Sylena Mingo, was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Initially classified as an undetermined death, officials say investigators uncovered information that led them to rec

lassify the death as a murder.

Both the baby's mother and grandmother were arrested Friday afte
rnoon.

Because she is a minor, the identity of the mother has not been released. The grandmother is identified as Angela Latonya Mingo.

The baby and the two woman lived together at the residence on St. Paul Street.

Investigators are not releasing a cause of death or motive at this time.

Richland Co. Mom Charged in Death of Toddler

(Richland County) - A Richland County mother has been arrested and charged in the death of her three-year-old child.

Investigators say Olivia Rozier, 32, left the child, Dominic Moody, in her car for several hours on Sunday while she went to work at the Blockbuster video store on Decker Boulevard. Rozier told officers she was unable to find a babysitter for the child.

"This is negligence. Pure negligence. A poor

decision made by a parent that could've resulted in any number of scenarios and unfortunately resulted in the worst kind. It resulted in the dea
th of a child," said Lieutenant Chris Cowan with the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says Moody died of cardiac arrest caused by hyperthermia, or overheating.

Northeast Columbia resident Willie Dix was outside his Hunt Club Road home when he heard Rozier screaming for help. Deputies say she was riding around the Northeast area when she realized her son was unresponsive.

"She got out of the car and was running between the apartments saying 'somebody help me, somebody help me, please, anybody help me,'" Dix said.

While Dix was able to call 911, he says he only wishes he could've done more.

"She just kept shaking him. He wasn't moving so she went back outside and cried and cried. I felt sorry for her, but ain't nothing I could do then," he
sai
d.

Rozier has not yet had her bond hearing.

There are resources in the area to contact in emergency situations. The United Way operates a phone line which is open 24 hours a day. The group works wit
h several agencies that are able to provide child care.

The number to dial is 211. Anyone can call it from a BellSouth landline. Currently, the hotline is not set up to answer cell phone calls. The help line is in place in Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Newberry, Orangeburg and Calhoun counties. For those calling from phones other than BellSouth land lines, dial 733-5408 or 866-892-9211.

Father Reacts to Son's Death in Mom's Care

(Columbia) - The father of three-year-old Dominic Moody is speaking out about his son's death.

The toddler died Sunday after Richland County deputies say he was left in a car for nearly five hours while his mother, 32-year-old Olivia Rozier, worked at the Blockbuster video store on Decker Boulevard.

Tuesday, Dominic's father put aside his sadness and anger to make the drive to Columbia to gather the little boy's things.

Clutching his son's football in one hand and an Elmo in the other, 24-year-old Brandon Moody found it hard to grasp why the boy's mother felt so alone in the world.

"Call me. I've been begging. I've been pleading with the girl. Let me have my son. Let him come and sta

y with me. I got a place and everything," Moody said.

It was a request that went
unanswered Sunday, when deputies say Rozier decided to leave Dominic in the car because she didn't have a babysitter.

Rozier's neighbor, Latoya Mills, says that claim is untrue. She says she offered to watch the boy.

"I wanna know why? When she knew I was here....why?" Mills asked.

While questions run as rampant as the sorrow, Dominic's family is left trying to remember the happier times. His grandfather couldn't pull his teary eyes away from one of Dominic's last pictures.

"He had a smile that would light up the world...yes he did. That's my little angel," Clyde Madrey said.

Now, the memory of the smile is the only thing the family can hold onto.

"He really could've been the next best thing in this world. I swear to you. Everybody just got robbed when he died. Especially me," Brandon Moody said.

Newport News Mother Wanted on Felony Child Neglect Charges

Newport News police are searching for a 33-year old woman wanted on four counts of felony child neglect.

Officials allege Kathy Lavonne Ford assaulted her 14-year old daughter and held a gun to her head on September 29th.

According to authorities, Ford choked her daughter to the point that she almost lost consciousness.

The assault allegedly occurred in Ford's vehicle, which was in a parking lot in the 900 block of Briarfield Road. Police say Ford's three other children - ages 12, six and five - where also in the vehicle during the assault.

Ford
r
was arrested earlier this month on a concealed weapon charge. The charge resulted from an investigation int
o a domestic argument between Ford and her 14-year old daughter on September 30th at her home in the 800 block of 35th Street.

After she was arrested on the concealed weapon charged, Child Protective Services temporarily placed Ford's children into the custody of their grandmother.

Although the incident where she allegedly choked her daughter occurred prior to her incident which resulted in her arrest, police only became aware of the September 29th incident on Tuesday.

In addition to the four counts of felony child neglect, Ford is also wanted on one count of misdemeanor brandishing a firearm and one count of assault and battery.

Anyone with information on Ford's whereabouts is asked to call the Crimeline at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

Baby-Killing Suspect Travels To Columbus For Evaluation

5069969_240X180.jpg

A man accused of killing his 20-month-old daughter has been sent to a Columbus mental hospital for evaluation after a psychiatrist said he was too uncooperative to determine competency.

The court psychiatrist said Darius Myrick, 32, who is facing an aggravated murder charge that carries a possible death sentence, refused to cooperate with psychologists trying to tell if he is competent to stand trial.

Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Robert Ruehlman on Monday ordered Myrick sent to Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare in Columbus for 20 days of observation. A new hearing is scheduled for Dec. 16.

Police said Myrick abducted Aliyah Starling Myrick from his estranged wife's apartment on Oct. 6

and ran with her down the street, calling her Satan's daughter.

Police arrested
him the next day after a neighbor spotted him leaving a park with blood and leaves on his clothing. Aliyah's body was found along a walking path.

Questions surround child's death

As Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies investigate the Sunday shooting death of 4-year-old Jovan Mitchell, questions remain about who did the shooting and who owns the gun.

Mitchell was found dead from a single gunshot to the head in a closet in his room at the Hunters Pointe North apartment complex in the 5000 block of East Sligh Avenue.

Family members told police the shooting was an accident. Mitchell was in his room with a 5-year-old cousin, who told investigators he heard something from the bedroom closet just past 11:30 Sunday morning.

"The five-year-old saw something, heard something, and alert

s the mom," Tampa Police Spokesperson J.D. Callaway said. "The mom finds the 4-year-old in his bedroom."

[co
lor=red]Mitchell's uncle, Lyndon Jenkins Sr., said he is stunned and is convinced the boy's mother had no idea the gun was in the house.

"They're going to get into things, they're curious about things," Jenkins said. "It goes back to the parents. In the closet ... tragic."

Callaway said it's not known who owns the gun and no charges have been filed.

Bay News 9 will not identify the 5-year-old cousin involved in the shooting in accordance with our crime coverage guidelines.

Since Mitchell died, the owner of the gun can be charged with a felony in the state of Florida for leaving a loaded and unsecure firearm within the reach of a child. It will be up to state prosecutors, however, to decide whether to press charges.

Who owned the gun? I have a gun in my desk drawer. My 3 year old knows where it is and also has the sense to leave it alone since Daddy told him to. I live in a white neighborhood so I don't have it loaded.
