From the Flint Journal (MI), 6/3/06:
Suspect testifies at hearing in crime spree that left 4 dead

Robert Vondrasek was being held at gunpoint and begging for his life after three men broke into his E. Russell Avenue residence.

According to Jerry O. Walker, one of three suspects charged in a killing spree of elderly Flint residents, Vondrasek asked a codefendant, Demitray L. Hodge, if he was going to die.

"You know you are," Hodge allegedly told Vondrasek.

That testimony came Friday during a preliminary examination for Walker, Hodge and Sherman M. Buggs, who face a total of 50 charges stemming from a crime spree that left four Flint people dead, including three elderly people, and
several others injured during robbery attempts.

Flint Police Sgt. Shawn Ellis said he interviewed Buggs, Walker and Hodge.

While Buggs said he knew nothing about the four slayings, his co-defendants shared facts about the cases to Ellis.

Walker allegedly told Ellis that the three planned to "hit a lick" on people, and picked Vondrasek, also known as Mr. Bob to those in the neighborhood.

Walker said Buggs kicked in the door and were met by Vondrasek, who was in his pajamas.

He said Hodge struck Vondrasek several times in the head with a handgun and led him into a bedroom where he was struck again before begging for his life.

"They had to kill him to leave no witnesses," Ellis said Walker told him.

Vondrasek, 75, was found dead in his residence after it had been set on fire, allegedly by Hodge.

Eight knives protruded from his back, and he had another 14 stab wounds, a slashed throat, and fractured skull.

Ellis also said that although
Buggs denied any involvement, he may have incriminated himself when asked to read a taunting note to police found in Vondrasek's residence.

The note read; "Dear 911. You will never (k)now its me. 22-cal killer."

Ellis said when Buggs read the note, he used the word "know" rather than "now," which was spelled incorrectly in the note.

Catherine Wedlow, 74 and her husband, Green Wedlow, 75, were shot in the head at close range, witnesses said earlier.
