SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WYFF) -
An incident report states a 28-year-old woman was sent to the hospital after her boyfriend struck her with a double-headed ax in the head following an argument over a voicemail left by the suspect's mother.
Deputies were called to Spartanburg Regional Hospital on Sunday after the woman was found unconscious with a bleeding head wound in the parking lot of the emergency room.
The woman said she and her live-in boyfriend, 33-year-old Willie Lee Hollis Jr., have two children together.
She said when she and Hollis got into an argument, he threw her onto a bed and then dragged her off onto the floor. The police incident report did not specify the content of the voicemail that led to the argument.
She said Hollis then grabbed a double-headed ax that had been hanging on the bedroom wall and swung it at her, but missed. She said that he then swung the ax again, striking her in the back of the head with it. She said she ran into a bathroom to try to stop the bleeding.
The woman said the Hollis came into the bathroom to check on her, and the next thing she knew, Hollis' mother arrived at the house, and Hollis started putting items, including the ax, in her car.
The woman told deputies that while all this was going on, her two young children were in her car waiting for her. She said she took the children to her grandmother's house and then drove herself to the emergency room.
Deputies said the woman consented to have her home searched, but they were unable to locate any blood or the ax.
Investigators said they found Hollis already in custody on another charge. He was charged with criminal domestic violence.
