Bridgeport Mom Arrested in "Worst" Child Abuse Case
Wednesday, Nov 20, 2013 | Updated 5:21 PM EST

The mother of a severely beaten 5-year-old from Bridgeport was arrested after police said she failed to stop the abuse of her son.

Police call it one of the worst child abuse cases they’ve ever seen and said 22-year-old Jarelis Lugo, the boy's mother, knew about the abuse but never reported it.

The boy's father, Daquon Gomillion, also 22, was arrested in September after the child was discovered with extensive scarring on his body and other "significant injuries" indicating he may have been struck with an extension cord.

At the time of the incident, a doctor told police, “The number of scars is too numerous to count, and the number exceeds the number that I have ever seen on any other child.”

Gomillion was charged with multiple counts of first-degree assault and risk of injury in a minor and is being held on a $750,000 bond.

Now Lugo is also facing charges. She was arrested Wednesday and charged with risk of injury to a minor.

Police said Lugo initially told them her son’s injuries were accidental and that he “falls a lot.” She later admitted that Gomillion had repeatedly abused the child.

MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - The family of a woman shot several times and left for dead say they are pleased her baby's father is locked up. But his family says he did not commit the crime. :noway:

Jonathan Turner was charged Friday with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder after a shooting that took place on South Parkway and Wellington Street on November 25.

But one week later, Daeshaivon Garrett and Christina Falkner stood arm-in-arm in support of the same man.

"Me and her love him. His kids love him. That man wouldn't do nothing to hurt nobody, for what reason? For what reason?" asked Falkner. How many baby mamma dis nigga gots?

Turner is Garrett's boyfriend, as well as the father of Falkner's son. He is now accused of shooting a woman who was five months pregnant with his seventh child. Since the baby died, he faces a first degree murder charge. I guessed that answered my question, knowha'm'say'n.

But Garrett and Falkner say Turner was with them at the time of the shooting, around 7 p.m. In fact, they say he returned before 6 p.m. after picking up dinner.

"We know he's innocent, just like there's a lot more people that know he's innocent, that he was here at the apartments," said Falkner. "We ate the chicken. :chicken: All of us gots sick off of it. He went to sleep. He didn't wake up 'til that night, 10, 11 o'clock. And all the missed calls in his phone. That's how he found out."

"They don't have any evidence. You can't put evidence on a person who wasn't there and that's basically what they're trying to do," said Daeshaivon Garrett. "There's no gun. There's no gun residue."

According to the affidavit of complaint, the victim identified Turner as the person who shot her in the back, then stood over her and shot her three more times.

"He's not that type of person. He wouldn't do that and what we're hoping comes out of this is that he comes home and that he's cleared and that they find the real shooter because it's not him," added Falkner. :noway:

Turner has a lengthy arrest history, but Garrett and Falkner say many of those cases were dropped.

The woman who was shot is expected to make a full recovery. :(

DALLAS — The family of Deanna Cook saw the man accused of killing her in court today for the first time since she was murdered.

Delvecchio Patrick appeared in Judge Larry Mitchell’s 292nd Judicial District Court Monday morning for a pre-trial hearing to set the date for his murder trial. The trial will begin Feb. 5, 2014.

Last week, a source close to the case says Patrick initially didn’t want to appear in court because cameras were allowed in the courtroom.

He appeared Monday after a 90-minute delay. Patrick walked in, smiled at his attorney and sat down. He never acknowledged the Cook family.

“It was very emotional. We hadn’t seen him so of course we weren’t expecting the reaction we got,” said Karletha Gundy, Cook’s sister. “I was hoping for remorse but you didn’t see that. It was kind of disappointing.”

Patrick is accused of beating, choking then drowning Cook in her bathtub in August 2012. In an 11 minute long 911 tape obtained by News 8, Cook is heard begging for her life and naming her attacker.

She says, “I’m not doing anything. Baby, please.” Her attacker responds, “I’ll kill you. I’ll kill you.”
