SEATTLE - A 23-year-old Seattle man is recovering from injuries after he said he was attacked during last weekend's Gay Pride celebration because he was gay.

Friends of the victim are calling the attack a hate crime.

Micah Painter said the attack happened early Sunday morning as he walked to a car outside the Timberline Bar in downtown Seattle. Painter said he was targeted by a passing truck, holding three men and two women.

He said, 'I have on question. Are you gay?' said Painter. And never one to deny who I am, I said yes, and he broke the bottle and charged me.&quot

The attack left Painter bloodied and scarred.

His friends have no doubt about the incident's motivation.

"It was a hate crime, said a friend of Painter's. "t
r
was bigoted idiots that were very cowardly."

Sea
ttle Police will only say they are investigating the incident as malicious harassment and assault.

Painter hopes the investigation leads to an arrest.

"I hope they all end up in jail," said Painter.

Police said they're searching for three suspects all between the ages of 19 and 24, possibly driving a white or silver pickup truck with temporary plates.
