Then-California attorney general Kamala Harris in 2011 (Mario Anzuoni/Reuters)

A trip through the life and career of the California senator as she gears up for a probable presidential run

1. As both a district attorney and state attorney general, Harris pushed for a new statewide law that lets prosecutors charge parents with misdemeanors if their children are chronically truant. “We are putting parents on notice,” she declared. “If you fail in your responsibility to your kids, we are going to work to make sure you face the full force and consequences of the law.”

2. Harris strongly supports “familial DNA searching,ˮ in which police take DNA samples from crime scenes and compare them to existing databases to look for not just any direct matches in criminal databases, but any familial matches. Police have gradually expanded the practice’s reach, from checking DNA collected against existing samples of convicted criminals to checking them against samples in the databases of genealogy web sites and genetic-testing companies like 23andMe and Ancestry.com. California allows the collection and preservation of DNA samples from anyone who is arrested, even if they’re not charged with a crime.

3. Harris also has been a strong advocate of civil asset forfeiture. She supported a bill in California that would have allowed prosecutors to seize assets before initiating criminal proceedings — a power now available only at the federal level — if there were a “substantial probability” they would eventually initiate such proceedings. Besides cases involving violent crimes, the legislation allowed seizures in cases involving such crimes as bribery, gambling, and trafficking endangered species. Harris endorsed the bill after then-attorney general Eric Holder sharply limited civil asset forfeiture among federal prosecutors. She argued that the practice gave local and state law-enforcement officials “more tools to target the illicit profits [of transnational criminal groups] and dismantle these dangerous organizations.”

4. As San Francisco district attorney, Harris created “Back on Track,” an anti-recidivism program that she expanded as state attorney general. The program received $750,000 in federal funding and quite a bit of praise from crime-policy experts. But it faced criticism early in its history, when illegal immigrant Alexander Izaguirre, who had pleaded guilty to selling drugs, was selected and graduated, only to later grab a woman’s purse and run her down in an SUV, severely injuring her.

As the Los Angeles Times put it, “Harris’ office had been allowing Izaguirre and other illegal immigrants to stay out of prison by training them for jobs they cannot legally hold.” Harris said she had been unaware that Back on Track had been training illegal immigrants and that they would no longer be eligible for the program.

5. In 2012, she submitted a brief supporting an illegal immigrant’s application for a law license. In 2014, the California Supreme Court ruled in the immigrant’s favor, even though the California State Bar’s rules state that it is disqualifying professional misconduct to commit a criminal act.

6. In her first speech on the Senate floor, Harris declared, “An undocumented immigrant is not a criminal.” She later avowed the belief that illegal immigration is “a civil violation, not a crime.”

This classification applies to only a portion of those in the country without permission. First, entering the country illegally has criminal penalties. Overstaying a visa is considered a civil violation, not a criminal one, with deportation as the appropriate penalty. But reentry without permission after deportation is a crime, as is, in most cases, working in the United States without legal residency, since it almost always involves some falsification of documents or lying on work forms under penalty of perjury.

7. Harris’s reputation as a tough prosecutor has played a key part in her political rise, and she continues to tout the high rate of felony convictions on her watch. But in 2010, SF Weekly reviewed the work of her office and concluded that “felony convictions for cases that actually go to trial and reach a jury verdict — a comparatively small group that nevertheless includes some of a district attorney’s most violent and emotionally charged cases — have declined significantly over the past two years.” The review found that in 2009, San Francisco prosecutors “won a lower percentage of their felony jury trials than their counterparts at district attorneys’ offices covering the 10 largest cities in California,” and San Francisco’s rate dropped further in the first quarter of 2010. Harris’s 71 percent conviction rate on felony cases had been boosted by a significant increase in pre-trial plea agreements.

8. In October 2017, Harris declared that she would rather shut down the government than vote for a spending bill that did not address the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and ensure those covered by the program would not be deported. “I will not vote for an end-of-year spending bill until we are clear about what we are going to do to protect and take care of our DACA young people in this country,” she said. And she has kept her word, at least so far.

9. In April 2018, Harris urged the Senate Appropriations Committee to “reduce funding for beds in the federal immigration system,” reject calls to hire more Border Patrol personnel, and “reduce funding for the administration’s reckless immigration enforcement operations.”

10. In 2010, a California Superior Court judge declared that as San Francisco district attorney, Harris had violated defendants’ rights by hiding damaging information about a police drug-lab technician and was indifferent to demands that that the lab account for its failings. The crime-lab technician had been convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence in 2008; district attorneys are obligated to hand over to the defense information about prosecution witnesses that could be used to challenge their credibility. Prosecutors’ failure to disclose the information about the technician led to the dismissal of more than 600 drug cases.

11. Some have asked tough questions about whether Harris, as San Francisco district attorney, did everything she could to root out abuse in the local Catholic churches. Prosecutors had obtained personnel files from the Archdiocese of San Francisco dealing with sexual abuse going back decades. But her office did not prosecute any priests, and she argued that those records were not subject to public-records laws:

In 2005, while she was San Francisco’s district attorney, Harris rebuffed a public-records request by SF Weekly to release personnel files from the Archdiocese of San Francisco. (Her predecessor had planned to make them public after prosecuting criminal priests, but the California Supreme Court stopped those cases when it declared unconstitutional a 2002 law that lifted the criminal statute of limitations.) Similar archives in Boston had exposed the scope of the scandal there. “We’re not interested in selling out our victims to look good in the paper,” Harris told SF Weekly in a statement — this, even though many of those victims pleaded with her to release the documents.

12. In 2004, San Francisco Police officer Isaac Espinoza was shot and killed by David Hill, a young gang member with an AK-47. Hill also shot another officer in the leg. Days after Hill’s arrest, then-district attorney Harris announced that her office would not seek the death penalty. This prompted Senator Dianne Feinstein to declare, while speaking at Espinoza’s funeral, “This is not only the definition of tragedy, it’s the special circumstance called for by the death-penalty law.” The comment drew a standing ovation from the crowd of mostly police. Hill was ultimately sentenced to life without parole. Feinstein later told reporters that if she’d known Harris was against the death penalty, she probably wouldn’t have endorsed her for D.A. in the first place.

In 2009, Harris again received criticism for refusing to pursue the death penalty against Edwin Ramos, an illegal immigrant and member of MS-13 who gunned down a father and two sons. As a teenager, Ramos twice served probation for violent crimes but was not deported. Ramos was sentenced to 183-years-to-life without parole.

13. Harris’s most financially significant decision as state attorney general came in 2012, when she negotiated a $25 billion settlement deal with the nation’s five largest mortgage companies (Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, CitiFinancial, GMAC/Ally Financial, and Wells Fargo) after the companies were accused of improper foreclosure practices.

By 2013, the state reported that California homeowners had received $18.4 billion in mortgage relief from the deal. When all was said and done, roughly 33,000 homeowners received an average reduction of $137,280 on their first mortgage. That sounds like a lot until one looks at the scale of the problem: More than 600,000 Californians received a foreclosure notice in 2009, and in 2012, when the agreement was struck, more than 30 percent of California homeowners with mortgages owed more than their houses were worth.

14. One bank that was not part of Harris’s settlement was California-based OneWest. A 2013 internal memo from the California attorney general’s office, first published by The Intercept, alleged that OneWest and its CEO, Steven Mnuchin, violated state foreclosure laws and recommended filing charges against him. Prosecutors claimed they had “uncovered evidence suggestive of widespread misconduct” and “identified over a thousand legal violations.”

But Harris, the state attorney general, did not pursue charges. She later told The Hill, “We went and we followed the facts and the evidence, and it’s a decision my office made. We pursued it just like any other case. We go and we take a case wherever the facts lead us.”

In 2016, Mnuchin — who would soon be President Trump’s nominee to be secretary of the treasury — donated $2,000 to Harris’s Senate campaign. She voted against his confirmation anyway.

15. For nearly ninety years, California state law prohibited images of handguns from being used in signs for gun stores. In 2014, after Harris’s office cited several gun shops, they sued, arguing that the law violated the First Amendment. Harris’s office argued that the law was needed to prevent handgun-related crime and suicide. Last year a federal judge ruled “the government has provided no evidence directly linking [the law] to reduced handgun suicide or crime,” concluded that the law was a “highly paternalistic approach to limiting speech,” and declared it “unconstitutional on its face.”

16. Starting in 1993, Harris began dating Willie Brown, then the speaker of the California Assembly and later a candidate for mayor of San Francisco — a relationship that brought her in contact with many of the city’s political and financial movers and shakers. Early in 1994, Brown named her as his appointee to the state’s Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, a job that paid $97,088 a year. Six months later, he named her to the California Medical Assistance Commission, a post which paid $72,000 a year.

Into 1994, press accounts described Harris as Brown’s girlfriend. He was still married, and in his early 60s; she had just turned 30. The relationship had a surprising and tumultuous end, as James Richardson describes in Willie Brown: A Biography:

Columnist Herb Caen all but predicted two days after the election that Brown would wed Kamala Harris, his constant companion throughout the campaign. “Keep an eye on these two,” Caen wrote. No mention was made of what Brown would do about Blanche, to whom he was still married. But the day after Christmas, Brown stunned his friends by announcing that he was breaking up with Kamala. Brown invited Blanche to appear with him on stage for his swearing-in and to hold the Bible. A television reporter from KPIX caught up to Blanche, who had kept a low profile throughout the campaign, and asked her what it was like to live with the future mayor.

“Difficult,” was her one-word answer.

17. Late last year, Los Angeles city officials asked why “armed, plain-clothes LAPD officers were dispatched to California cities outside of Los Angeles at least a dozen times to provide security for U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris at public events.” LAPD officers traveled with Harris to San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, and San Diego. Los Angeles taxpayers covered about $28,000 of the cost for airline tickets, hotel stays, car rentals, and meals in an arrangement that retired law-enforcement officers called “unprecedented.”

18. In 2009 and 2010, Harris contributed to the liberal blog Daily Kos, where she characterized the opposition to Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor as “bigotry and narrow-mindedness,” warned that Texas oil companies were “invading” California by funding efforts to repeal an initiative requiring reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions, and opposed Arizona’s since-struck-down immigration law, declaring that we “can’t afford to divert scarce local law-enforcement resources to enforcing federal immigration laws.”

19. Harris has proposed a sweeping tax reform that would create a refundable tax credit for all workers, peaking at $3,000 for single adults and $6,000 for married couples — meaning that taxpayers could collect cash even if they don’t actually owe any taxes. The worth of the credit would decline the higher a taxpayer’s income, eventually reaching zero for childless single adults making more than $50,000 a year, single adults with children making more than $80,000 a year, and married couples with children making more than $100,000 a year. The plan would repeal all of the 2017 tax cuts for earners making more than $100,000, would cost roughly $2.5 trillion to $3 trillion over ten years, would constitute a serious marriage penalty, according to experts.

20. In April, Harris made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where the hostess asked, “If you had to be stuck in an elevator with either President Trump, Mike Pence, or Jeff Sessions, who would it be?” Harris replied, “Does one of us have to come out alive?”

Kamala Harris' father issues a scathing statement decrying 'travesty' of daughter's marijuana comments

Link: http://www.hideoutnow.com/2019/02/kamala-harris-father-issues-scathing.html

Sen. Kamala Harris upset her father when she talked on a radio show about supporting marijuana legalization because "Half my family's from Jamaica," according to The Washington Times.

Donald Harris, Kamala's father, is an economics professor at Stanford, and is Jamaican. He issued a scathing statement to Jamaica Global Online distancing himself and his family from his daughter's remarks.

 "My dear departed grandmothers (whose extraordinary legacy I described in a recent essay on this website), as well as my deceased parents, must be turning in their grave right now to see their family name, reputation and proud Jamaican identity being connected, in any way, jokingly or not with the fraudulent stereotype of a pot-smoking joy seeker and in the pursuit of identity politics. Speaking for myself and my immediate Jamaican family, we wish to categorically dissociate ourselves from this travesty."

Harris spoke about marijuana legalization on "The Breakfast Club," a popular New York City morning radio show. She was asked whether she supported legalization of marijuana, and replied "Half my family's from Jamaica. Are you kidding me?"

She said she supports marijuana legalization because it brings people joy, "and we need more joy in the world."

Harris' marijuana admissions made headlines, not so much because people were appalled or surprised that she had smoked weed, but because she strangely said she listened to Snoop Dogg and Tupac songs while she was high in college, even though she was out of college before those artists ever released music.

The senator previously opposed legalization of recreational marijuana back when she was the district attorney in San Francisco. He then-spokesman Brian Brokaw said that Harris "believes drug selling harms communities. Harris supports the legal use of medicinal marijuana but does not support anything beyond that."

‘Huge injustice’: Kamala Harris accused of refusing to prosecute Podesta-linked company in exchange for bribes

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is being slammed by Latino activists for refusing to investigate the Ponzi scheme operated by nutritional supplement marketer Herbalife in exchange for what amounts to bribes masquerading as “donations” from Herbalife lobbyist Heather Podesta.

At the time, Harris was the Attorney General of California.

Heather Podesta was then married to Tony Podesta, the high-powered lobbyist with longstanding ties to Hillary Clinton. Tony’s brother, John Podesta, was the campaign manager for Hillary 2016 presidential campaign.

Refused Multiple Pleas to Investigate Herbalife

During her tenure as California attorney general, Kamala Harris refused to investigate the fraudulent pyramid scheme operated by Herbalife, which is accused of exploiting the Latino community. The Washington Free Beacon noted:

“Herbalife’s records indicate that at least 60% of the company’s distributors are Spanish-speaking Hispanics. And the total number of Hispanics might be as high as 80% when bilingual and English speakers are included.”

In 2013, the League of United Latin American Citizens and four other groups urged Harris to investigate Herbalife for fraud.

Harris denied their request without explanation, even though similar investigations were occurring elsewhere around the country.

Podesta Gave Hefty Donations to Harris

In 2015, prosecutors in the San Diego office of the California attorney general sent a lengthy memo urging Harris to investigate Herbalife for deceptive marketing practices.

However, she refused. And this may be why: Documents obtained by Yahoo News show that:

“About three weeks after the San Diego letter was sent, Harris received the first of three donations to her campaign for the U.S. Senate from Heather Podesta, the powerful Washington lobbyist whose ex-husband Tony’s firm, then called the Podesta Group, had worked for Herbalife since 2013.

Heather Podesta’s own lobbying firm, Heather Podesta and Partners, would soon be hired by Herbalife, too.

Harris did not pursue an investigation — even as the Federal Trade Commission proceeded with an investigation of its own — which had been opened the previous March, and which suggested that sufficient grounds for such scrutiny did exist.

The San Diego letter had meticulously laid out those grounds, pointing out that Herbalife presented itself to the public as a lawful enterprise, but that it could nevertheless be “engaged in less obvious conduct” that potentially harmed both Herbalife distributors and Herbalife customers.

Allegations of such conduct, by 2015, had become commonplace in media reports.”

Latino Activist: ‘It’s Disgusting’

“It’s disgusting,” said Latino anti-Herbalife activist Julie Contreras. “Kamala Harris did a huge injustice.”

In 2016, the Federal Trade Commission won a $200 million settlement from Herbalife for its long history of fraud. Other states that sued Herbalife also received settlements, while California sat on its hands — thanks to its attorney general Kamala Harris.

Latino activists and legal experts say Harris should have prosecuted Herbalife herself when repeatedly asked.

Harris’ Top Aide Accused of Sexual Harassment

This isn’t the first time that Harris has been accused of turning a blind eye to crimes committed by those close to her.

As California attorney general, Harris also did nothing when one of her top aides was forced to pay out $400,000 to settle a 2016 sexual harassment claim. That senior aide worked for Harris even after she became a U.S. Senator.

He resigned in December 2018 — only after his sexual harassment settlement was revealed in the press.

Kamala Harris — a junior senator who assumed office in 2017 — rose to fame this year after viciously attacking Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his Supreme Court confirmation, when he was smeared with sham, 11th hour sexual misconduct claims.

Kamala Harris Says She Owns A Gun — Meanwhile She Wants To Ban Them

California Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris said she owns a gun for “personal safety” Thursday, adding she wants to protect the Second Amendment after leading efforts to ban assault weapons.

“I am a gun owner, and I own a gun for probably the reason a lot of people do — for personal safety,” Harris told reporters after attending a party with supporters in Des Moines, Iowa, according to Business Insider. “I was a career prosecutor.”

The 2020 hopeful also said she believes she can solve gun control issues, mentioning a lack of leadership.

“We are being offered a false choice,” Harris continued. “You’re either in favor of the Second Amendment or you want to take everyone’s guns away. It’s a false choice that is born out of a lack of courage from leaders who must recognize and agree that there are some practical solutions to what is a clear problem in our country.”

Harris was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 before being elected to the Senate. Now, she hopes to take on Trump in the 2020 election, but will have to get through a crowded Democratic primary first. The California Democrat has previously said the U.S. needs a president who knows how to prosecute President Donald Trump, citing her former job as state attorney general.

Kamala Devi Harris. She says she is running for U.S. President, yet fails to tell us that she is not qualified to be President. As an officer of the law, you’d think she had mastered Constitutional Law 101 that requires a candidate for President to be natural born. Kamala’s problem is that she was born in Oakland, California in 1964 to a Jamaican father and Indian mother who had only been in the U.S. about six months on student visas. To make matters much worse, Kamala has jumped on the reparations bandwagon without telling us that her Jamaican roots are steeped in the 19th century Jamaican slave trade.

On Jan. 13, 2019, Professor Harris told Jamaica Global Online that Kamala’s paternal great grandmother, Christiana Brown, was a:

“. . . descendant of Hamilton Brown who is on record as plantation and slave owner and founder of Brown’s Town.”

Hamilton Brown (1775-Sep 18, 1843) was an attorney, plantation-owner, slave-owner, slave-trader and Assemblyman in St. Ann’s Parish, Jamaica.

Brown’s Town (originally Hamilton Town) is named after him.

University College London has published about 100 pages of Hamilton Brown’s legacy of slave ownership based upon court records of his attorney work as a receiver, executor, trustee and awardee for numerous plantation owners and the claimed slave properties bought, sold and transferred.

Given the tribal, nepotistic nature of globalists, one can reasonably assume that the Brown-Harris family heritage of influence peddling, legal chicanery, human trafficking and abuse now falls upon Kamala to uphold.

Kamala’s father is an New World Order globalist

Professor Harris’ economic and political connections include Cambridge, Yale, Ford Foundation, Fulbright Scholar and Inter-American Development Bank. To say that he has been nurtured by New World Order globalists in his career would be an understatement.

Given the tribal, nepotistic nature of globalists, one can reasonably assume that the Brown-Harris family heritage of influence peddling, legal chicanery, human trafficking and abuse now falls upon Kamala to uphold.

Hamilton Brown enslaved 2,158 African & Creole and more than 2,000 Irish

University College London has published about 100 pages of Hamilton Brown’s legacy of slave ownership based upon court records of his attorney work as a receiver, executor, trustee and awardee for numerous plantation owners and the claimed slave properties bought, sold and transferred.

These records reveal that Hamilton Brown managed 2,089 enslaved souls for his clients and was awarded 69 slaves in part payment for his legal fees.

The National Archives in London actually names each of Hamilton Brown’s 204 slaves owned personally as of Jun. 28, 1817: 100 males, 104 females.

In 1883, the British Parliament outlawed slavery by the Slavery Abolition Act. Harris vehemently fought this.

Hamilton Brown defiantly opposed freedom from human trafficking (aka slavery)

The year before, on Sep. 03, 1832, Henry Whiteley, a young English job-seeker had arrived from England hoping to get a job as a store clerk or plantation book-keeper. Whiteley’s notarized affidavit was published by the Anti-Slavery Society upon his return to England.

A draft of the Slavery Abolition Act, then called the “Order in Council for the Amelioration of Slavery,” was circulating throughout the Caribbean colonies.

Whiteley described that upon first meeting St. Ann’s Assemblyman Hamilton Brown, Brown swore by his Maker that abolition of slavery would never be permitted by the planters of Jamaica.

He also said that Brown and other slave owners waxed eloquent about the “happiness and comfort of the slaves of Jamaica” as compared to the destitute of England. Whitely would quickly discover that these self-serving assertions were horrifically false.

The young Whiteley chronicled his observations of brutal whippings, deprivations and rape by owners and overseers.

Whitely was forced to return England just seven weeks later by a mob representing the “Saint Ann’s Colonial Church Union.” Hamilton Brown was a member and leader of this Union. They had come to tar and feather him for the sin of asking questions of the slaves and inciting them to question their conditions. He pled guilty to all of the charges except preaching to a gathering of 150 slaves at one time.

To replace his newly-released African and Creole slaves, Limerick ‘Slaves’ for Jamaica by Carl Senior (1986) presented compelling research showing how Hamilton Brown and his fellow slavers and sub-agents used street pamphlets to lure Irish peasants hungry from the potato famine to move to Jamaica with the promise of: (1) free passage with food, (2) comfortable cottage, (3) medicine and medical care, (4) sow pig and milk cow, (5) barrels of oatmeal and herring, (6) good wages and (7) Roman Catholic churches and chapels.

Item 7 was especially disingenuous since Whitely had described how slaves were being whipped for even the sin of praying, not to mention Methodist and Baptist churches being destroyed for promoting prayer and devotion to God.

The Hibernian Anti-Slavery Society organized “friends of humanity” to help poor Irish from being entrapped by Brown’s “man-traps” and “Jamaican slave-ships.” Despite their best efforts, some 2,060 Irish men, women and children sailed to Jamaica in “the hope of a bettering their miserable condition.” Over 1,180 Germans and 92 Portuguese also made the trip.

Kamala Harris’ political conduct has precipitated this analysis of her heritage that was enriched by slavery

Kamala Harris is supporting reparations for slavery—specifically African slavery—in a cynical attempt to elicit African-American votes.

She is not even qualified to seek votes for the Presidency since she is not a natural born citizen. She was born to foreign students in the U.S. and does not meet the Constitutional requirements. Constitutional attorney Larry Klayman just made this case quite clearly.

Her reparations argument is equally fallacious since she ignores her own family heritage. Hamilton Brown’s enslavement of black, white and brown slaves was horrific and unrepentant.

Perhaps Kamala should first make reparations for the crimes of her own family.

Women who live in glass houses should not throw stones. And, it is outrageous that a person with her hideous family background would try to make an issue out of slavery reparations.

Idiots Think Tulsi Gabbard Was Hired by ‘Russia’ to Bring Down Kamala Harris

I’m not even joking.

After Tulsi Gabbard destroyed Kamala Harris on her history of locking up black people as a prosecutor, idiots on Twitter began claiming that Gabbard had been hired by Russia to bring down Harris.

Yes, really.

During last night’s debate, Gabbard took Harris to task for her role in “putting over 1500 people in jail for marijuana violations” then laughing about it when asked if she ever smoked marijuana.

As you can see from the video, Harris was left floundering, with her usual righteously indignant front shattered.

Despite all the other candidates trending on Twitter last night, and despite her being the most searched candidate on Google, Gabbard did not trend on Twitter.

However, she was responsible for the hashtag #KamalaHarrisDestroyed – which started trending this morning.

This led an army of Russian collusion conspiracy theorists to ludicrously assert that Gabbard had been hired by the Kremlin to take down Harris.

“Have you heard the news? Tulsi was hired by Russia to take down Kamala and help Trump,” tweeted Peter D’Ambrosca with a sampling of the insanity.

“When you wake up to see hashtag #KamalaHarrisDestroyed trending, you know the Russian troll bots and trumpers are worried about Kamala Harris, bigly,” tweeted another user.

“Tulsi is 2020’s Jill Stein. A fraudulent, Vladimir Putin approved spoiler. Putin took Tulsi, an American soldier, and turned her into a Trojan Horse, his own #SiberianCandidate,” tweeted another.

The same people who claim social media bias against conservatives is a “conspiracy theory” routinely think Russia is behind every trending hashtag they don’t like.

That’s the biggest, nuttiest conspiracy theory of them all.

Progressives Say Kamala Harris Team 'Inventing Conspiracies' About Tulsi Gabbard Rather Than Addressing Critiques

Link: https://www.commondreams.org/news/2...am-inventing-conspiracies-about-tulsi-gabbard

"Why are people attacking the messenger rather than addressing the criticisms?"

by Eoin Higgins, staff writer

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) attacked Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) during last night's primary debate. Harris' allies responded with a theory about a nefarious Russian plot.

Supporters of Sen. Kamala Harris' run for the 2020 Democratic presidential primary nomination suggested Thursday that criticisms of Harris' record as a prosecutor in California were being driven by a Russian disinformation plot, a theory that was met with ridicule from progressives.

"The questions asked of Senator Harris last night were more than reasonable and should have been asked by the moderators."
—Rebecca J. Kavanagh

In Wednesday's second primary debate on CNN, Harris faced tough questions on her record as San Francisco district attorney from 2004 to 2011 and California attorney general from 2011 to 2017 from Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii). In a blistering series of criticisms of Harris' tenures, Gabbard accused Harris of not doing enough to change the brutality of the criminal justice system.

"The bottom line is, when you were in a position to make a difference and an impact in these people's lives, you did not and worse yet in the case of those who are on death row, innocent people, you actually blocked evidence from being revealed that would have freed them until you were forced to do so," said Gabbard. "There's no excuse for that and the people who suffered under your reign as prosecutor—you owe them an apology."

Republican strategist Shermichael Singleton, in comment to The Washington Post, said the exchange didn't reflect well on Harris.

"Gabbard is a nonissue because she won't make it to the final debates," said Singleton, "but Harris showed that when cornered, she doesn't perform very well."

Harris after the debate dismissed Gabbard as an "Assad apologist," a reference to the Hawaii congresswoman's perceived coziness with Syrian President Bashar al Assad.

"Gabbard is bad but she had Kamala dead to rights and this is the best response the senator has?" tweeted progressive news outlet The District Sentinel. "For an attack line that has been going viral for years?"

Gabbard, in comment to The Hill on Thursday, called the California senator's remarks "pathetic."

"Honestly, it's pathetic that when confronted with the facts and the truth about her record that she claims to be proud of as a prosecutor, as attorney general of California, all she can do is lob cheap smears," said Gabbard.

It wasn't just Syria. On Wednesday night, Harris' campaign jumped to tie Gabbard and her campaign to a nebulously defined and unclear Russian conspiracy.

"Reporters writing their stories with eyes on the modern-day assignment desk of Twitter, read this," said Harris press secretary Ian Sams, sharing a February story from NBC News claiming that Russia is behind the Gabbard campaign. Multiple attempts using a variety of communication tools to reach Sams for comment were not returned.

The NBC story was criticized at the time by The Intercept's Glenn Greenwald, who was skeptical of the sourcing:

The only "expert" cited by NBC in support of its key claim was the firm New Knowledge, which just got caught by The New York Times fabricating Russian troll accounts on behalf of the Democratic Party in the Alabama Senate race to manufacture false accusations that the Kremlin was interfering in that election.

Irrespective of the story's validity, the idea that Gabbard's criticisms of Harris were based in Russian disinformation caught fire Thursday, with a number of prominent Democrats and analysts for news network MSNBC piling on the attacks.

"And what's top story at RT (Russia Today) this morning after #DemDebate?" tweeted MSNBC contributor and senior fellow at the Center for Cyber and Homeland Security at George Washington University Clint Watts. "Of course, what everyone saw right? Social media going wild for Tulsi Gabbard, populist, after she went after establishment Dem Harris who happens to be on Senate Intel Committee (Russia Investigation)."

Not to be outdone, Richard Stengel, another MSNBC analyst who served as former President Barack Obama's under secretary of State, implied in a tweet that Gabbard's criticisms of Harris' record were part of a deep-cover attack on Harris, who could be an undefined "threat" to Russian interests.

"This is a clear example of Russian disinformation happening in real time," claimed Stengel. "A hashtag created and promoted by Russia Today against Kamala Harris & supporting Rep. Gabbard, who is an apologist for another Putin puppet, Bashar Assad."

"This is a sign that Harris is seen as a threat," intoned Stengel.

Progressives, many of whom have their own issues with Gabbard for her views on foreign policy and problematic comments from her past, took issue with a framing of the criticism of Harris that sidestepped the substance of the attack by tying Gabbard to Russia.

In a series of tweets, defense attorney and legal commentator Rebecca J. Kavanagh said that accusing Gabbard of being a Russian pawn didn't meet the smell test.

"This idea that anyone who criticizes Kamala Harris is a Russian bot or plant or working for MAGA is RIDICULOUS," tweeted Kavanagh. "The questions asked of Senator Harris last night were more than reasonable and should have been asked by the moderators."

"People have every right to question Tulsi Gabbard about her own record, but this does not make the points she made about Kamala Harris inaccurate or unfair," Kavanagh added. "Why are people attacking the messenger rather than addressing the criticisms?"

The Intercept's Mehdi Hasan made a distinction between Gabbard's views on foreign policy and her critiques of Harris.

"Lets be clear," tweeted Hasan, "Gabbard's refusal to condemn Assad is awful and revealing but it doesn't change the fact that her attack on Harris was legitimate and accurate and Harris has questions to answer about her record in California."

Writer Leslie Lee III dismissed the entire Russian conspiracy theory in toto.

"People are inventing conspiracies about Tulsi Gabbard being a Russian agent in order to prove it's a conspiracy theory that Kamala Harris spent her whole life putting black people in prison," said Lee.

Instead, Lee suggested, there could be another option.

"What if Kamala Harris just spent her whole life putting black people in prison then decided in the last two years to pretend she gives a **** about black people because she needs our votes and cred?" Lee said. "Seems simpler."

How you know Tulsi Gabbard really got under Kamala Harris' skin

In Wednesday night's Democratic presidential debate in Detroit, Tulsi Gabbard decided to drop her opposition research book right on Kamala Harris.

From CNN:

But what Harris started her answer on Gabbard with was the she-is-so-beneath-me-I-can’t-even-bring-myself-to-take-her-seriously riff. Which, for a candidate as naturally gifted and experienced as Harris, is a clear mistake. And a mistake that appeared born of the simple fact that Gabbard pissed her off and, in the immediate aftermath of the debate, she was still fuming.

And the bottom line is that there are aspects of Harris’ record as attorney general that are a major weakness for her candidacy. As a top-tier candidate, she *has* to expect to be hit on it. Who it came from is immaterial — so the fact that she responded by dismissing Gabbard’s poll numbers is telling.

This incident isn’t going to do any real damage to Harris. She’s right that she is a top-tier candidate and Gabbard, well, isn’t — at least not yet. But Harris’ inability to keep her cool is something to keep an eye on. This isn’t the only time she’s going to be challenged on her record in the coming months.

Chris isn’t wrong here.

If Kamala couldn’t handle pushback from a DEMOCRAT how does she think she’s going to be able to deal with Trump on a debate stage? And make no bones about it, he won’t pull ANY punches … wait until he asks her about Willie Brown.

But you know, since Chris dared be critical of Kamala the Left decided he was being super – wait for it – SEXIST.

Good times.

California Removes Arrest Reports From Kamala Years

Routine website redesign obscures Democrat's record on criminal justice

Link: https://freebeacon.com/politics/california-removes-arrest-reports-from-kamala-years/

Charles Fain Lehman - August 2, 2019 5:00 AM

A redesign of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation website will make it harder for voters to inspect Sen. Kamala Harris's controversial record as the state's top cop.

The department removed public access to a number of reports on incarceration in the state, including when presidential candidate Kamala Harris (D.) was California's attorney general. Twice a year, the CDCR releases information about the number of new individuals incarcerated in the California prison system as part of its "Offender Data Points" series. These reports provide important information on demographics, sentence length, offense type, and other figures relevant to criminal justice and incarceration.

Until recently, these reports were publicly available at the CDCR's website. A search using archive.org's Wayback Machine reveals that as of April 25, 2019—the most recent indexed date—ODP reports were available dating back to the spring of 2009. As of August 2019, the same web page now serves only a single ODP report, the one for Spring 2019. The pre-2019 reports have been removed.

The changes matter in part because the reports contain information about Harris's entire time as state A.G., 2011 to 2017. Harris has taken fire from multiple opponents for her "tough on crime" record as California's top cop, an image that she has tried to shed as a far-left senator and presidential candidate.

One particularly brutal attack came Wednesday night when Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D., Hi.) laid into Harris for her record on criminal justice. Gabbard cited a Washington Free Beacon analysis — based in part on the ODP reports — that found that more than 1,500 Californians were sent to prison for marijuana-related offenses while Harris was attorney general.

The data have been used in other Free Beacon reporting on Harris, specifically the finding that more than 120,000 black and Latino Californians were sent to prison while she was in the State A.G.'s office.

While the change is beneficial for Harris, a CDCR representative said the changes were unrelated to her campaign, and were prompted by AB 434, a California law setting standards for web accessibility.

"Making our website fully compliant was a significant and ongoing undertaking. It required a redesign of the look and feel of the website, and a need to evaluate all of the thousands of documents and other files that were linked to our website," Jeffrey Callison, CDCR assistant secretary for communications, told the Free Beacon.

He said the older reports are still publicly accessible and that some information was only temporarily removed.

"While many documents that are not accessible can be remediated, it is a significant use of resources to do it across the board. Some older documents have been removed from our website but are still available upon request; others are temporarily removed while they are being remediated; and many others have already been remediated and are on our website," he said.

Callison added that the documents are still available upon request via email to data.requests@cdcr.ca.gov.

Kamala Harris is proposing a new kind of 'red flag' law to take guns away from racists

Link: http://www.hideoutnow.com/2019/08/kamala-harris-is-proposing-new-kind-of.html

Democratic presidential candidate and Sen. Kamala Harris (Calif.) has taken the concept of "red flag" gun confiscation laws a step further with a proposal to take guns away from white nationalists who might commit a hate crime.

According to a policy proposal on her campaign website Wednesday, Harris said she would work to "combat and disarm violent hate" from white supremacists by pushing for legislation to give courts the ability to issue "Domestic Terrorism Prevention Orders" to take away the guns of "a suspected terrorist or individual who may imminently perpetrate a hate crime."

According to the statement, such orders "will allow certain individuals, including law enforcement officers and family members, to petition a federal court to temporarily restrict a person's access to guns if they exhibit clear evidence of dangerousness."

"We need to take action to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people and stop violent, hate-fueled attacks before they happen," Harris said in a statement. "By focusing on confronting these domestic terror threats, we can save lives."

Wednesday's proposal doesn't, however, explain how peoples' due process rights would be protected under such a law or what specific safeguards would be put in place to keep people from being stripped of their gun rights and property based on their viewpoints alone.

"What Harris is basically calling for is a way to punish people explicitly for holding unpopular opinions by taking their guns from them," Tom Knighton says of the proposal at Bearing Arms. "While no one has sympathy with white nationalists, the problem is that we live in a world where everything is labeled racist, including the color of freaking robots. Anyone who has found themselves on the right politically has been called something ranging from racist to white nationalist sometime in the last decade at least."

A recent policy trend for anti-gun states, "red flag" confiscation laws — under which courts can order guns taken away from people deemed to be a serious public safety risk and prevent them from buying guns — have gained more traction in national discussion following recent shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio. President Donald Trump voiced his support for the policies in the wake of the massacres.

Proponents say the policies can disarm potential threats before they commit a mass shooting; opponents worry that they could easily result in due process and Second Amendment violations.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has sponsored legislation to encourage the passage of such laws, and recently responded to concerns about potential constitutional rights abuses by saying that "the Second Amendment is not a suicide pact."

A January 2019 study from the Crime Prevention Research Center on the efficacy of existing "red flag" confiscation policies in four states found that the laws "had no significant effect on murder, suicide, the number of people killed in mass public shootings, robbery, aggravated assault, or burglary."

But there’s no public record, and nothing that Harris’ campaign could provide, to show she filed a lawsuit against the company.

“The facts are Harris opened an investigation against Exxon for lying about climate change. She didn’t take that further even though she should have and other attorney generals did,” said Kassie Siegel, climate director at the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “She did bring some cases against oil companies. BOMBSHELL: Kamala Harris covered up sex abuse crimes of priests, buried records, and took cash from church officials

Thursday, August 13, 2020 by: Ethan Huff

Link: https://www.naturalnews.com/2020-08-13-kamala-harris-covered-up-abuse-crimes-of-priests.html

https://www.clearnewswire.com/407655.html

(Natural News) After announcing her as his running mate, Joe Biden gushed about how Kamala Harris is supposedly a “fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants.” But how can this be true when Kamala was a quintessential bad cop during her tenure as San Francisco’s chief prosecutor?

In his book Profiles in Corruption: Abuse of Power by America’s Progressive Elite, Peter Schweizer explains how Kamala failed to prosecute even one case of child sex abuse by Roman Catholic priests, despite having numerous cases thrown her way.

During the 13 years that Kamala was a district attorney, and later attorney general, she systematically covered for the big guys while betraying the little guys – though you are unlikely to hear about any of this from the mainstream media, which is worshiping Kamala almost to the degree that it worshiped Barack Obama.

While at least 50 other major cities at that time were busy prosecuting pedophile priests for molesting and raping young boys, Kamala “would strangely hide vital records on abuses that had occurred,” Schweizer contends. Kamala also retaliated against a district attorney who tried to do the job that she refused to do, almost as if she herself was secretly guilty.

“The bombshell details show that while Harris’s predecessor, former San Francisco District Attorney Terence Hallinan, had launched an aggressive investigation into priests of the Archdiocese of San Francisco accused of sexual abuse, Harris’s campaign to unseat Hallinan showed an unusual influx of unparalleled donations from high-level officials of the Catholic Church,” writes Dr. Susan Berry for Breitbart News.

By the way, more news about corrupt Kamala is available at KamalaHarris.news.

Kamala Harris is complicit in allowing innocent children to be sexually victimized by Roman Catholic priests

The very same woman who now wants to control the amount of red meat that Americans are allowed to eat was nowhere to be found in pursuing actual justice against heinous child sex abusers who were taking advantage of innocent children within the confines of religion, which is about as heinous as it gets.

“Harris had no particular ties to the Catholic Church or Catholic organizations, but the money still came in large, unprecedented sums,” Schweizer writes, noting that Kamala maintained deep financial ties to the religious child sex abusers she sought to protect.

Over the course of many years, various Roman Catholic organizations and individuals trying to protect the reputation of their religion amid compiling evidence of pedophilia among its leadership essentially paid off Kamala to keep these crimes under wraps – and it worked marvelously.

“Though Harris has touted her early career as a sexual crimes prosecutor, after she won her run-off campaign against Hallinan, her office actually worked to cover up the records of claims of sexual abuse by priests of the San Francisco archdiocese,” Dr. Berry further notes.

Kamala’s office claimed at the time that it did this to protect the child victims of sex abuse at the hands of Catholic leadership. But how does burying vital records and refusing to prosecute criminals in any way amount to protection? The only people protected were Kamala’s donors, which just goes to show the type of person she actually is, despite all the praise and worship from the mainstream media.

“When Harris attempted to shift the blame for hiding the records to Hallinan, her predecessor responded that she engaged in ‘the kinds of deals that have allowed the church sex scandal to go on as long as it has,'” Dr. Berry further reveals, pegging Kamala as being complicit in these sex crimes against children.

Is this monster really the best pick for vice president, and possibly even president in the event that Biden either croaks or is removed from office for being mentally impotent?

How 29-year-old Kamala Harris began an affair with powerful San Francisco politician Willie Brown, then 60 and married, who appointed her to two lucrative positions only to dump her after he was voted first black mayor of the city

There were plenty of surprises in store for the 50,000 revelers who flocked to Fisherman's Wharf to see flamboyant California Democrat Willie Brown sworn in as San Francisco's first black mayor.

But it wasn't the elaborate firework display, the 10,000 meals dished out to the homeless, nor the gushing congratulatory phone call from President Bill Clinton broadcast live over the public address system that piqued the Bay City's scribblers.

The press has expected the maverick politician to parade his attractive young girlfriend, Kamala Harris, an ambitious deputy district attorney 31 years Brown's junior and his 'constant companion' on the campaign trail.

To their puzzlement, he was instead joined on stage for the 1996 inauguration by his estranged wife Blanche, despite announcing years earlier that the two had amicably split.

When columnist Herb Caen declared 'It's all over!' the next day he was referring to Brown and Harris, whom Caen had tipped to wed.

'This news came as a shock to many, including those who found Kamala Harris attractive, intelligent and charming,' Caen wrote in his 'Willie Watch' column for the San Francisco Chronicle.

'Also flabbergasted: the brain-trusters who found Kamala the perfect antidote to whatever playboy tendencies still reside in the mayor-elect's jaunty persona.'

The fling may have fizzled long ago, but in the decades since, Harris has struggled to shirk her association with Brown, whom she has described as 'an albatross hanging around my neck'.

Scrutiny of their relationship and suspicions that her career benefited from his political patronage, are likely to intensify now she has been unveiled as Joe Biden's running mate.

When they met around 1993, Brown, a noted lawyer and civil rights leader, was the speaker of the California assembly and regarded as one of the State's most influential legislators.

He had turned 60 while Harris was 29.

Brown was notorious for his love of Jaguar sports cars, flash designer suits – a look he dubbed 'bold conservative' despite his liberal leanings – and for being named one of the world's ten sexiest men by Playgirl magazine.

He had also been seen with a 'succession' of beautiful women despite having been married for decades. No wonder then that Clinton once dubbed Brown 'the real Slick Willy.'

'The measure of his flamboyance is he'll go to a party with his wife on one arm and his girlfriend on the other,' James Richardson, a reporter for the Sacramento Bee told People Magazine in 1996.

Brown insisted that his dates should 'absolutely be the best-dressed woman in the room,' added Richardson, who published his own biography of Brown later that year.

Harris, meanwhile, was regarded as a diligent and able prosecutor 'on the way up' at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, where she had worked for the previous three years.

Brown had been publicly dating Harris for some time, but when Brown was inaugurated in 1996, his estranged wife Blanche was by his side after 'splitting' two years prior

As Brown's 'new steady' she soon found herself rubbing shoulders with many of California's political movers and shakers.

As well as gifting his young squeeze a BMW car, the relationship reaped even more tangible benefits when Brown handed Harris two influential positions.

'Assembly Speaker Willie Brown, continuing his rush to hand out patronage jobs while he retains his powerful post, has given high-paying appointments to his former law associate and a former Alameda County prosecutor who is Brown's frequent companion,' the Los Angeles Times noted in 1994.

'Brown, exercising his power even as his speakership seems near an end, named attorney Kamala Harris to the California Medical Assistance Commission, a job that pays $72,000 a year.

'Harris, a former deputy district attorney in Alameda County, was described by several people at the Capitol as Brown's girlfriend.'

Brown also appointed Harris to the state's Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, a lucrative position worth a further $97,088 a year, according to the same article.

She took a leave of absence from her prosecutor duties to serve in the positions.

Press reports unearthed by DailyMail.com confirm that by the time he hooked up with Harris, Texas-born Brown had for years been openly separated from Blanche, a dance teacher whom he married in 1958 and had three children with.

According to an archived 1984 profile in the New York Times the couple went their separate ways in 1982.

Richardson's book says the union ended a decade earlier, citing a friend who recalled Brown announcing that the marriage was over 'in either 1971 or 1972'.
For all their differences, however, the ex-couple maintained an enduring bond: 'Willie and Blanche Brown have never divorced. She has lived in their Masonic Street house in San Francisco, and the two have built a friendship while leading separate personal lives,' Richardson wrote in Willie Brown: A Biography.

'Brown continued to support her and their children financially, and he took care of things when leaky pipes and plugged toilets needed fixing.'

Nonetheless, on the day Brown was inaugurated as San Francisco's mayor, cementing his standing as California's most notable African American politician, it was a surprise to many to see Blanche at his side, bible in hand.

Brown 'stunned his friends by announcing that he was breaking up with Kamala', Richardson said of the episode.

'Columnist Herb Caen all but predicted two days after the election that Brown would wed Kamala Harris, his constant companion throughout the campaign. 'Keep an eye on these two' Caen wrote.

'No mention was made of what Brown would do about Blanche, to whom he was still married.'

Around that time a television reporter for KPIX caught up with Blanche in the street and asked her what it was like living with Brown. 'Difficult,' came the one-word reply.

The estranged couple remain married to this day, despite Brown having gone on to have a baby with his chief fundraiser Carolyn Carpenti in 2001.

Blanche attended Brown's 80th birthday party in 2014 and as recently as last December they bought an apartment in San Francisco for $650,000, one of several properties they have jointly acquired over the past couple of decades.

When DailyMail.com reached out to Blanche this week to ask what she thought of Harris being named as Biden's presidential running mate she broke into laughter.

Pressed on whether she would vote for them, Blanch, 84, added: 'I'm sorry, I don't want to comment at all.'

Despite being dumped by Brown, Harris continued to enjoy his support when she ran for office herself, getting elected as San Francisco's first black district attorney in 2004.

By then Brown had faced an FBI corruption investigation for allegedly handing out lucrative city contracts and appointments to friends and political allies.

His endorsement prompted accusations of cronyism, promptly denied by Harris who was dating the talk show host Montel Williams at the time.

Under fire from her opponents, Terence Hallinan and Bill Fazio, Harris didn't hesitate to stick the boot into her former mentor, branding him an 'albatross hanging around my neck'.

'I refuse to design my campaign around criticizing Willie Brown,' she told SF Weekly. 'I have no doubt that I am independent of him - and that he would probably right now express some fright about the fact that he cannot control me.

'His career is over. I will be alive and kicking for the next 40 years. I do not owe him a thing.'

Harris was elected California's attorney general in 2010. When she ran for the Senate in 2016, Brown called on her likely opponent, Antonio Villaraigosa, to stay out of the race.

Now happily married to entertainment lawyer Doug Emhoff, Harris has little to say about Brown and does not mention his name once in her 2019 memoir, The Truths We Hold.

Brown, as ever, has had plenty to say.

Biden picked Kamala Harris to be his vice presidential running mate on Tuesday, putting a former primary rival on the ticket.

Harris appears to possess a simple economic instinct: The government should step in and give people more money.

She supports $2,000 monthly stimulus checks for Americans during the pandemic, and introduced a plan during her campaign for a significant middle-class tax cut.

Joe Biden picked Sen. Kamala Harris as his vice presidential running-mate on Tuesday, putting on the Democratic ticket a former campaign rival with economic plans further to his left.

The California senator waged an unsteady presidential campaign last year. Harris cast herself as a progressive though one with cautious instincts. She backpedaled on her support for single-payer healthcare after Medicare for All drew increased scrutiny in the primary, and struggled to hone a message for voters.

Now the economic downturn caused by the pandemic rivals the Great Depression of nearly a century ago. The state of the economy is very likely to be near the top of voters' concerns in November with millions of Americans on unemployment and the jobless rate in the double digits.

Harris appears to possess one simple idea guiding her economic views: The government should step in and give middle-class and low-income people more money. She's long backed efforts in Congress to provide many with a stronger foothold in American society through a robust redistribution of federal dollars.

"[Harris] is not only highly sensitive to challenges in affordable housing and the inadequate income growth for low and middle-income households, she's absolutely put out some of the most ambitious and detailed proposals that would not just begin to tackle these issues but address them," Indivar Dutta-Gupta, co-executive director of the Georgetown Center for Poverty and Inequality, told Business Insider.

She diverges from Biden, who has carved out more moderate positions on the economy and healthcare. Harris initially favored Medicare for All before rejecting the plan and backing a decade-long transition to a government-run healthcare system. Biden supports a public option instead.

"The values fundamentally align, whatever the specific policies are," Dutta-Gupta said. The Biden campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

Harris backs monthly stimulus checks and cash transfers for the middle class

A former district attorney and attorney general, Harris was elected to the Senate in 2016. While much of her focus has been on criminal justice issues, she's raised concern about the gulf between the wealthiest people and everyone else.

"For so long, really for generations, the rules have been written in a way that have excluded working people and have excluded middle-class families," Harris told The New York Times last year. "And we've got to address that."

With alarm over widening inequality on the rise in recent years, Dutta-Gupta said, an increasing number of Democratic lawmakers support measures to transfer cash directly to people.

That has gained even more backing because of the pandemic. In May, Harris introduced legislation alongside Sens. Bernie Sanders and Ed Markey to give every American $2,000 a month throughout the coronavirus pandemic, and continue the payments for three months after it ends.

However, Democrats didn't push for recurring payments during stimulus negotiations that collapsed last week. Instead they favored another one-time round of $1,200 stimulus checks along with Republicans. The plan for monthly payments hasn't gained traction.

Brian Riedl, an economist at the conservative-leaning Manhattan Institute, estimated a one-year $2,000 monthly check program would cost $6 trillion.

The California Democrat also rolled out legislation last month to ban all evictions and foreclosures for a year. Those steps are coupled with barring rent increases and utility shutoffs while the outbreak is ongoing.

Though it wasn't a campaign centerpiece, the economic anchor of Harris' platform was a middle-class tax-cut plan called the LIFT Act. It sought to provide $3,000 to individuals earning below $50,000 through a refundable tax credit, doubled to $6,000 for married couples. The legislation has a hefty price tag of $2.8 trillion over a decade, and Harris said it would be financed by repealing the 2017 Republican tax cuts.

The proposal leaves out the lowest-income households that don't earn enough to benefit, a threshold that's drawn criticism from progressives. But the middle and working-class stand to gain the most from it, according to an analysis from the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

"Whether it will become part of Biden's own tax plan is unclear – but it does demonstrate Harris's longstanding commitment to increasing the incomes of low- and middle-income workers," said Elaine Maag, an expert at the organization, said in a blog post.

That was not the only cash-transfer plan Harris endorsed. She was also the first senator to sign onto the American Family Act, a dramatic expansion of the existing child tax credit sponsored by Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado. It's garnered majority support from Democrats in the House and Senate.

The bill is a European-style monthly cash allowance for children, providing $3,600 annually for children younger than 6 and $3,000 yearly for kids aged 6 to 16. It'd phase out for households earning above $100,000 a year.

"There's been an emphasis on the left with aggressive child-based support," Douglas Holtz-Eakin, president of the conservative American Action Forum, told Business Insider. "Whether it's universal pre-K, child allowances, paid parental leave, there's a big menu of things there, some of which can become quite pricey."

"That's not a crazy thing to expect to get proposals on, but it's far from a lock that it would go through" if there were a Biden administration, he said, adding it depends on the makeup of House and Senate.

"The reality is it's what Biden proposes that matters"

A vice presidential candidate can have differing policy views compared to the presidential candidate leading the ticket. But the VP candidate normally conforms to the platform. Now the pair have to craft a consistent message in their campaign against President Donald Trump.

"The reality is it's what Biden proposes that matters," said Holtz-Eakin, who was a top economic aide in John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign.

Adam Ruben, the director of the Economic Security Project, an organization in favor of cash payments, said Harris is at "the forefront of a lot of fresh thinking" on the ability of cash payments to both alleviate hardship and boost the economy.

"I think having Senator Harris in the White House would be a significant step to ensuring low- and middle-income families in the US have financial security to meet their basic needs, especially in this crisis," Ruben told Business Insider.

There are some differences in their approach. Biden backs a government partnership with states and cities to ensure people get some form of rental relief but not a ban on evictions like Harris sought up to now.

Biden seeks to ramp up taxes on high-earning Americans and businesses to fund a collection of federal programs that strengthen the middle class. His pandemic platform leaves the door open to further cash payments and tax relief down the road.

"There is a clear and concerted effort to tackle racial inequality on a scale we haven't seen in generations," Dutta-Gupta said. "There is a clear willingness to raise substantial revenue from the highest-income households in a way we haven't seen for decades."

Republicans are not likely to sign onto many aspects of Biden's ambitious economic agenda. It's up in the air how much of it will manifest into reality should there be another era of divided government.

"The question is how much of that looks like political positioning and how much looks like preparing to legislate," Holtz-Eakin said. "That is the only interesting question."

Tyrannical techno-fascist corporation Google is a major contributor to Kamala Harris, proving there’s a lot more censorship to come if Biden wins

Tuesday, August 18, 2020 by: Ethan Huff

(Natural News) A quick look at the top financial contributors to Kamala Harris’ initial failed campaign for the presidency reveals none other than Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, as the third-spot contender – meaning the world can expect a whole lot more censorship and tyranny from Big Tech should Kamala get elected on the Joe Biden ticket.

Between the years of 2013 and 2018, Alphabet Inc. contributed nearly $100,000 to Kamala as a California politician, $10,000 of which was to her political action committees (PACs). Other major contributors to Kamala include the WarnerMedia Group, the University of California, 21st Century Fox, and Venable LLP.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been shoveled over to Kamala by these corporate entities, several of which control various mainstream media outlets, in an apparent effort to eventually install her into the highest political office. And here we are in 2020 with Kamala on the same ticket as “Dementia Joe,” who almost certainly will not serve a full term.

Since 2018, Kamala has been continually propped up by CNN, which just so happens to be owned by WarnerMedia, Kamala’s top financial contributor. It is also important to note that Fox News, which has veered to the left in recent years, is owned by 21st Century Fox, Kamala’s fourth highest contributor.

In 2019, it was suggested that Kamala would likely end up being the presidential nominee – which, disturbingly, could still happen if Biden is deemed unfit. It was also reported that Kamala has had “near-constant funding by the same big tech and media conglomerates she claims she will regulate.”

Kamala Harris loves the war on drugs, would never legalize cannabis

Progressives everywhere would do well to take note of Kamala’s horrific track record of pandering to special interests. Not only is she a threat to online free speech, but she is a police state hack who has spent much of her tenure in political office jailing people for petty crimes like cannabis possession.

“Harris’ record also shows she is an advocate of the war on drugs and has opposed efforts to legalize marijuana,” reports indicate. “As Attorney General, she suggested expansions of the state’s efforts to track prescription drug users.”

After the Supreme Court ruled that California’s prisons were overcrowded to the degree that they were engaging in cruel and unusual punishment, in large part due to her prosecutorial zest, Kamala actually challenged this ruling and tried to keep as many prisoners locked up as possible.

Kamala even fought against the release of a man who was acquitted and found to be not guilty of a crime for which he was convicted. Daniel Larsen, who spent 13 years in prison for possession of a concealed knife, had simply failed to produce evidence of his innocence in a timely enough manner, a tragic situation for which heartless Kamala could not have cared less.

Perhaps the biggest point of contention, and the one that could cost Biden and Kamala the election, is Kamala’s aggressive anti-gun record. She has almost no chance of winning Florida, and other swing states like Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania are also unlikely to support her long-held positions against the Second Amendment – that is, if these positions can even be reported without being dubbed as “racism” or “sexism.”

“Given Kamala Harris’s political record, it is far more likely that her presence will ultimately do more harm than good – which may very well be the difference in a potentially tight 2020 presidential election,” reports The Burning Platform about the possibility of a Kamala presidency.
