Employee Killed, 2 Injured in Shooting at Church's Chicken in Otay Mesa
The Church's Chicken is located on Picador Boulevard and Del Sol Boulevard

Police are looking for a gunman who walked into a Church's Chicken restaurant in Otay Mesa Wednesday evening and shot three employees, killing one of them.

The man walked into the Church's Chicken at 3726 Del Sol Boulevard near Picador Boulevard at around 5:35 p.m., opened fire and fled the scene.



The suspect left the restaurant following an argument with restaurant employees that started after he reportedly tried to pay with a counterfeit $100 bill. He came back minutes later and shot at the employees from across the counter, SDPD Officer John Buttle said.

The suspect's gunfire appeared to be directed at the employees and not at any customers inside, SDPD Captain Tom Underwood said.

The suspect was described by police as a thin man in his 30s, about 6 feet tall, wearing a light blue sweater, red sunglasses and a Chargers beanie.


He was last seen driving north on Picador Boulevard, possibly in a dark blue sedan, Captain Underwood said.

Two people were transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital and a third was taken to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest. SDPD confirmed at around 6:30 p.m. that one of the victims had died. The other two victims' were in "stable" condition, according to Captain Underwood.

A woman who came to the scene following the shooting told Telemundo 20 her daughter, 30-year-old Maribel Ibañez, was the one who was killed.


A family friend identified the two injured victims as Mario Rojas, who is around 50 years old, and Humberto Ruiz, who is around 40 years old.and Humberto Ruiz, who is around 40 years old.

Man wanted in San Diego Church's Chicken shooting arrested in Memphis

Albert Blake, a man accused of shooting three Church's Chicken employees in San Diego and killing one, was arrested in Memphis Friday, the U.S. Marshals said.

Blake, 49, was arrested in a house on the 2300 Block of Hubbard Avenue, the Marshals said.

The Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Blake after the San Diego division tracked him to Memphis.

Blake is accused of trying to buy a sandwich with a counterfeit $100 bill at a Church's Chicken in San Diego on Nov. 6. Employees told him that they didn't accept bills that size, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

He allegedly left the restaurant and returned later, opening fire on employees. One, Maribel Ibañez was killed. Ibañez was the team leader at the restaurant, the Union-Tribune reported.

Blake is being held at the Shelby County Detention Center, awaiting extradition to San Diego.
