Homegrown terror trial far from over

DELIBERATIONS in Australia's largest and longest terrorism trial are reaching marathon proportions, with the jury needing a third week to decide the fate of 12 Melbourne men.
The jury has not yet returned a verdict in nine full days and one hour of deliberations, and will resume tomorrow.
Having already worked hard to digest four months of evidence, including 482 electronic exhibits of taped conversations, and two months of summaries from barristers, the jury has been working between 9am and 5pm daily except Sundays.
They have been told to return 27 verdicts in a 13-count indictment against 12 Melbourne men accused of forming a terrorist organisation bent
on violent jihad.
The men are alleged ringleader Abdul Nacer Benbrika, Aimen Joud, Shoue Hammoud, Amer Haddara, Abdullah Merhi, Fadl Sayadi, Hany Taha and Shane Kent, along with brothers Ahmed, Ezzit and Majed Raad, and their cousin Bassam Raad.
All have pleaded not guilty.
