Moroccan Mounir El Motassadeq awaits the start of his hearing at the appellate court in Hamburg, northern Germany, on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007. Motassadeq, a friend of the Sept. 11 hijackers who was found guilty in Nov. 2006 of being an accessory to mass murder, appeared in the court on Friday in the first of several hearings to decide his sentence. Judges could sentence Mounir el Motassadeq, 32, to as long as 15 years in prison in the latest chapter of a tangled, five-year legal saga.
