Police say gang member fired at crowd, injuring man

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A member of a street gang opened fire on a crowd, wounding one man, police said.
According to police, Verack Dy, 21, a member of the Providence Street Boys gang, fired three shots and wounded Somsack Sithong, 22.
Sithong was shot as he was leaving a friend's house at about 11 p.m. Saturday, The Providence Journal reported.
Dy was being held on
charge of using a firearm to commit a crime of violence and assault with a deadly weapon.
Police said witnesses saw a white Lincoln Town Car with Texas plates fleeing the scene. Police pursued the c
ar, and apprehended Dy, but the driver, Maisa Akanhay, 25, fled int
o a nearby house. He was captured inside.
Police allege that Dy fired three shots before being picked up by Akanhay. Akanhay was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy and a firearm violation.
