PAINSEVILLE -- Several law enforcement agencies were involved in the arrest of a man from Akron Wednesday night. There are indications that he is a person of interest in connection to a investigation of serial rapes stretching from Cleveland to Pennsylvania.

Police have stopped short of saying the man arrested Wednesday night is the focus of the serial rape investigation.

br>Cleveland Police, Akron Police and the FBI arrested 37-year-old Nathan C. Ford at a home in Akron.

Ford, a
former probation officer, was arrested for a parole violation from an aggravated disorderly conduct conviction from 2001.

Ford is being held on the parole violation in Lake County, but a more serious charge may be pending as Cleveland Police want him as well.

"At this point, they indicate that there is a charge of rape," Bill Crosier with the Lake County Sheriff's Department says.

Cleveland Police interviewed and took a DNA sample from person of interest who is in custody with another law enforcement agency. The DNA results will be available next week.

Grand jury indicts man for seven rapes

CLEVELAND (AP) - A Cuyahoga County grand jury has returned a 49-count indictment against a former probation officer accused of a string of random and violent rapes in Cleveland.

Prosecutor Bill Mason says 37-year-old Nathan Ford of Akron is a serial rapist who victimized at least seven women in Cleveland between 1996 and last April.

Mason says he will pursue maximum consecutive sentences totaling nearly 400 years in prison.

Mason says police were led to Ford by an anonymous tip. He says Ford's DNA matches DNA evidence left at the scene of seven rapes.

Ford (pictured, above) worked
r
as a Lake County probation officer from 1996 until 2001, when he ran into trouble with the law.

He pleaded g
uilty in Painesville to aggravated disorderly conduct for harassing an ex-girlfriend.
