GRASS VALLEY (KTXL) - Two women were arrested early Saturday after burglarizing a CVS in Brunswick.

Around midnight, Grass Valley officers were dispatched to the scene but the suspects had already fled.

Soon after, a Nevada County officer stopped the two suspects on southbound Highway 49. When the officer asked for their identification, the driver turned the car back on and sped off.

Police say she narrowly avoided major injuries to the officer.

The officer gave chase but lost sight of the suspects near Lone Star Road because their speed reached 120 mph and their headlights were off.

An Auburn deputy attempted to catch up to the suspects after they sped past recklessly at 100 mph but couldn’t close the distance.

The suspects continued through Auburn and eventually lost control and crashed near the court house.

Both suspects, identified as San Francisco residents Nikia Durgin and Kayla Jones, fled on foot but were eventually caught trying to take an Uber to Oakland.

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - One person was killed after a car crashed into a gas station pump then caught on fire Saturday afternoon. Firefighters responded to the gas station and as they ran to rescue the man he pulled out a gun and began shooting into the air.

According to Sgt. Holmes with the Jackson Police Department, the crash happened shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Officers responded to the Eagle Gas Station and found a black SUV had collided with a gas pump and the vehicle was on fire with the driver still inside.

Sgt. Holmes said the driver displayed a hand gun and shot into the air. He didn’t point the gun at anybody and didn’t try to exit the SUV. He ended up dying on scene from the fire.

Jackson firefighters put out the fire but several other cars were also damaged.

Police say the driver can only be identified as a black male while investigators work to get more information and get a positive identity.

Surveillance video showed the black SUV turn quickly into the parking lot and drive straight into the gas pump before bursting into flames.:p

Sgt. Holmes said they learned that the SUV had been stolen earlier that day in Byram.

ROCKVILLE, Md. (ABC7) —

An off-duty Montgomery County Police officer used windshield wipers to remain on the hood of a car driving at speeds of up to 80 miles per hour.

The harrowing experience occurred along Interstate 270 during the Monday morning rush.

Around 7:50 a.m., Officer Chris Jordan witnessed a three-car crash near the I-270/I-370 junction. Jordan watched as a silver Chevy Impala involved in the crash fled the scene, riding on the emergency shoulder and weaving in and out of traffic.

The veteran officer used his personal van to cut off the Impala in the local lanes near Shady Grove Road. Jordan approached the Impala on foot and identified himself as a police officer. However, the female driver, Denai Holly, allegedly accelerated. Jordan jumped onto the hood of Holly's car to avoid being run over.

Jordan somehow managed to call 911 while on the hood, prompting a priority response from Maryland State Police. Approximately one mile down the interstate, Holly pumped the brakes, allowing Jordan to roll off the vehicle, remarkably uninjured.

Police: Driver Steals Car and Flees After Serious Crash at Mall of New Hampshire

Police are looking for a New Hampshire man who allegedly crashed into a car in a mall parking lot, injuring his own passenger and another driver, and then stole another car in order to flee the scene.

Authorities said 45-year-old Keon Mercer of Manchester was driving a Nissan Versa at a high speed when he hit a Toyota Camry driven by a 67-year-old Londonderry woman outside the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester on Monday. When the driver of a Ford Focus stopped to help, police said Mercer got into that car and drove off.

A 27-year-old Manchester woman who was in Mercer's car suffered serious injuries, according to police. The nature of those injuries was not immediately known. The Camry driver's injuries are considered non-life-threatening. Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital.

Mercer is also accused of shoplifting from J.C. Penney before the crash.

Updated December 10 at 8:48 AM

GREENVILLE, SC (WYFF) - A fourth child injured in a crash Friday that killed three other young children has died, the coroner says, and the driver has been arrested on multiple charges.

Coroner Jeff Fowler said 2-year-old Ar'mani Jamison died Sunday afternoon in the pediatric intensive care unit at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Troopers said a 27-year-old was driving a 2004 Pontiac van north on Highway 253 in Taylors about 12:30 a.m. when the van went off the right side of the road. The van hit several trees, troopers said.

Ar'mani Jamison and three other children -- Jamire Halley, 8, Robbiana Evans, 6, and Arnez Yaron Jamison Jr., 4 -- were in the van.

Jamire, Robbiana and Arnez died at the scene of the crash, the coroner said.

The driver, later identified as Arnez Yaron Jamison, was not wearing a seat belt and was taken to the hospital, troopers said.

Troopers said one of the children was restrained, but investigators are not sure if the others were or not.

Jamison was arrested Saturday on three counts of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury, second-degree driving under suspension, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and child endangerment.

Man Rearrested, Charged in New Year’s Day Crash in Garden Grove That Killed Mother, 9-Year-Old Daughter

A man has been rearrested and charged in connection with a suspected DUI crash in Garden Grove that killed a mother and her 9-year-old daughter on New Year’s Day, officials announced Sunday.

On Thursday, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office cited lack of evidence in declining to file charges against 30-year-old Melvin Cleveland Branch. But a further investigation that prosecutors requested from the California Highway Patrol prompted them to reevaluate the case, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Branch was charged Friday with two felony counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, one felony count of driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury, and one felony count of driving with blood alcohol .08 percent or more causing bodily injury.

Officers detained Branch shortly after the crash, which occurred before 1 a.m. on Jan. 1 on the westbound 22 Freeway near the Valley View Street exit, according to CHP.

Branch was allegedly driving a BMW sedan at high speeds when he rear-ended a Lexus, sending it into a barrier on the right shoulder.

The BMW then slammed into a Ford F-150 pickup truck, causing it to overturn and skid across the freeway, CHP Sgt. April Carter previously said.

35837930_1546395021791286_r.jpeg

Both vehicles hit the guardrail before coming to a halt. That’s when a fourth car, a Mazda sedan, hit the pickup truck carrying two occupants later identified by the Orange County coroner’s office as 33-year-old Jolene Gardner and her 9-year-old daughter Payton Castillo.

The girl died at the scene, while her mother succumbed to her injuries at a hospital, officials said.

According to a GoFundMe page set up for their family, the mother and daughter were heading home to Hawthorne from a New Year’s Eve party.

Branch suffered minor injuries in the crash. CHP said while he was being detained in the back of a patrol vehicle, Branch kicked the window and jumped out.

Elderly couple, teen die in Long Island crash after police chase
By Ruth Weissmann
February 10, 2019 | 1:58am | Updated February 10, 2019 | 9:34am

An elderly couple and a teen were killed on Long Island when a teenage driver led police in a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed into another car, cops said.

The horrific smashup happened at 11:50 p.m. Saturday night at Route 25 and Birchwood Park Drive in Middle Island, killing a 74-year-old man and his 71-year-old wife, police said. A 16-year-old passenger in the car police was chasing was also killed.

Minutes before the crash, Suffolk County police observed 17-year-old Nahriek Belford, who was driving a gray 2015 Nissan Rogue, run a stop sign on Main Street in Yaphank. The vehicle had been reported stolen two days before on Feb. 7, police said.

Cops attempted to pull Belford over — but he took off.

Police then chased Belford westbound down Route 25, where he struck a Honda CRV that was turning left onto Birchwood Park Drive, cops said.

The two people inside the Honda and the passenger in the Nissan were pronounced dead at the scene.

Belford and another passenger in his car sustained serious injuries and were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital.

The driver has been arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, though additional charges are pending, cops said.

The deceased have not yet been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

A teenage driver fleeing cops in a stolen SUV slammed into another vehicle on Long Island over the weekend, killing an elderly couple in the other car, as well as his own half-brother, authorities said Sunday.

Nahriek Belford, 17, had blown a stop sign on Main Street in Yaphank around 11:45 p.m. Saturday — right in front of Suffolk County cops, officials said. The police officers then peeled out after the gray 2015 Nissan Rogue, authorities said.

When Belford refused to pull over, the cops radioed for back-up. They then stayed on him for a 5-mile pursuit along Route 25, according to authorities. The cop chase came to an abrupt and violent end at Birchwood Park Drive in Middle Island, where the stolen Nissan T-boned a 2009 Honda CR-V driven by an elderly couple turning into their gated retirement community, cops said.

Drag racing suspected in I-95 car crash that left eight injured
By Joe Marino and Amanda Woods
February 10, 2019 | 11:02pm | Updated February 11, 2019 | 9:44am

Police arrested two boozed-up drivers after eight people were injured, one critically, in a suspected drag-racing-related wreck on the New England Thruway on Sunday evening, cops said.

The multi-vehicle smashup happened shortly after 7 p.m. on northbound I-95 by Exit 11, where two BMWs traveling at a high rate of speed collided with two other vehicles, according to law enforcement sources.

One of the eight victims was a 68-year-old Kia driver — also traveling north — who was rear-ended by one of the speeding BMWs. The victim’s car then struck a Honda SUV, which in turn hit the other speeding Beemer, according to cops.

The Kia driver was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition. Seven other injured motorists also were transported to area hospitals, according to police and fire department officials.

An on-duty marked MTA police K-9 unit happened to be driving past the wreck and secured the scene until police arrived, preventing the two drivers from fleeing the scene, law enforcement sources said.

Christopher Coates, 31, of Peekskill, who drove a gray BMW, and Jahmeik White, 23, of The Bronx, behind the wheel of a white BMW, were both charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, cops said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad.

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) — A hideous brown thingee has been arrested for allegedly dragging a Delaware State Police trooper by her SUV earlier this week. Yira Graciano-Toala, 52, of Wilmington, was arrested for the incident that took place on Monday at the intersection of Kirkwood Highway and Farrand Drive.

It started when a trooper simply stopped to help deal with malfunctioning lights. Investigators say the trooper spoke with a driver of a dark-colored SUV, when the interaction turned violent.

“The vehicle took off with the trooper still on the vehicle and he was subsequently dragged,” Delaware State Police Cpl. Mike Austin said.

The 18-year veteran was able to pull himself free after about a tenth of a mile, falling into a grassy median.

Graciano-Toala was charged with vehicular assault, reckless endangering and other related charges.

She was arraigned and released on $15,600 unsecured bail.

Woman Loses Leg After Being Struck by Suspects’ Vehicle on North Philly Church Steps
“I can’t really let this bring me down because I’m going to get back regardless."
By NBC10 Staff
Published Mar 5, 2019 at 12:18 AM

A woman lost her leg but is thankful to be alive less than a week after she was struck by a vehicle that was fleeing police while sitting on the steps of a North Philadelphia church.

Barbara “BJ” Brooks, 26, was outside the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church on Broad Street and Allegheny Avenue Thursday around 9:15 p.m. Suddenly, a gray Honda that was being pursued by police, sped onto North Broad Street, ran a red light at the intersection and collided with two other vehicles.

The impact caused the Honda to jump the curb and crash into the steps of the church, crushing Brooks’ legs.

“It happened real fast,” Brooks told NBC10 while in her hospital bed Monday. “All I saw were lights and fire and I was on the ground.”

The aftermath of the crash, which was caught on video by witnesses, shows a chaotic scene in which police struggle with suspects, a car burns and victims are dragged away.

Police say the four men inside the Honda were wanted in connection to an armed robbery on the 1900 block of North 7th Street. Three of the men, identified as Dakeith Jones, 19, Stephon Thomas, 19, and Tyrone Harris, 18, were arrested and charged with a slew of offenses, including robbery, criminal conspiracy, and reckless endangerment.

Brooks recalls calling her older sister, Shaakera Wade, moments after the crash.

“I was telling her, ‘Kera, I got hit by a car! I got hit by a car,’” Brooks said.

Brooks was taken to Temple University Hospital. When Wade arrived to see her sister, she was approached by doctors.

“They basically explained if they try to save her leg, she’ll lose her life,” Wade said. “If they amputate, basically, they’d be saving her life. So I made the decision to save her life.”

Doctors amputated Brooks' left leg.

“I lost my mother two years ago,” Wade said. “Can’t lose a sibling...I wouldn’t know what to do.”

Despite her pain, Brooks remains positive.

“I can’t really let this bring me down because I’m going to get back regardless,” she said.

Brooks told NBC10 she'll undergo at least one more surgery on her right leg which is broken in several places. She’ll then be released from the hospital and will live with her sister for a period of time before starting rehab to learn how to walk again.

Police have identified the woman who led them on a car chase that ended in a crash after they say she carjacked a man in Montgomery County.

Awa Rahman, 19
, of Alexandria, was arrested and charged Wednesday with armed carjacking and making a false statement to a peace officer.

According to police, they received a call around 12:03 a.m. Wednesday from a man who said that he had been carjacked at the intersection of Amberlea Farm Drive and Dufief Mill Road in North Potomac as he was driving to work.

The victim told police a vehicle was stopped in the roadway with its driver’s door partially open. A woman, identified as Rahman, then exited the driver’s side of the vehicle and said she needed a ride to D.C. She then got in the victim’s passenger seat and demanded to be driven there before putting an object he believes was a gun to his head and demanding he get out.

An officer then located the stolen Subaru Outback being driven by the woman around 12:15 a.m. He attempted to stop the vehicle using his vehicle lights and siren as it traveled east on Darnestown Road and Muddy Branch Road, but the woman did not stop the Subaru.

The police chase ended when Rahman crashed the Subaru into trees along Clara Barton Parkway between MacArthur Boulevard and the D.C. line in the Brookmont area.

Rahman was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a hospital as a priority two trauma patient. She was released from the hospital Wednesday evening and transported to the Central Processing Unit.

Officers also located Rahman’s Ford Fusion that she had abandoned in the roadway at the intersection of Amberlea Farm Drive and Dufief Mill Road before the alleged carjacking.

Driver accused of plowing into crowd of people with Range Rover following bar spat
By Chris Perez

A New Jersey man deliberately rammed his Range Rover into a crowd of people as they were standing outside of a bar, sending two of them to the hospital — including a woman who’s at risk of losing limbs, officials said.

The mayhem unfolded early Saturday at a watering hole in Elizabeth, according to city spokesperson Kelly Martins.

Driver Robenson Louis, 32, of Orange, had gotten into a drunken spat with someone outside the bar and was allegedly attempting to exact revenge.

“There was some sort of ruckus,” Martins told The Post on Wednesday. “[Louis] allegedly drove his Range Rover vehicle into a crowd of pedestrians several times before fleeing the scene.”

The luxury SUV owner injured two people — a 24-year-old Union man and 29-year-old woman from Orange who suffered “limb-threatening injuries,” according to Martins.

Louis was reportedly arguing with the woman’s boyfriend before he got behind the wheel.

“It was God-awful to see this guy up and down on the sidewalk, running into people,” a witness told ABC. “It was horrible. Everybody was just howling I guess because it was such a traumatic thing.”

Cops charged Louis, who was later caught and arrested, with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes (vehicle), aggravated assault, assault by auto while driving while intoxicated, knowingly leaving the scene of an accident and two related weapons charges. He was also slapped with six summonses.

ST. CLOUD, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - Andric Levoi Barksdale stood before a judge in Osceola county court. He told the judge his version of what happened on the day police say he purposely crashed into his girlfriend's car.

“She was moving her stuff out, Friday,” he said. “She moved her stuff out on Friday.”

Saint Cloud Police say they got to the, what they are calling, horrific scene just after 10:30 p.m., Friday night.

“Just multiple vehicles... you could barely make out their makes or models due to the severity of the damage they all had,” said Sgt. Frankie de la Rosa, from Saint Cloud Police.

They say it started as a domestic incident between Barksdale and his girlfriend. She and four other people were driving in one car and Barksdale was in another.

“It seems that the boyfriend intentionally struck the girlfriend's vehicle, causing a chain reaction and their vehicle crossed into the other lane and collided with three other vehicles,”
Rosa said.

A woman in one of those cars died at the scene, and everyone else - including Barksdale and his girlfriend - went to the hospital. Police say it's especially tragic that innocent bystanders were injured and killed.

The report continues, detailing that Barksdale intentionally rammed the woman's car on Old Canoe Creek Road in St. Cloud, ultimately causing a five-car chain reaction crash. Yesenia Quiles-Reyes, 30, a registered nurse, was one of the drivers in a passing car killed in the collision. Multiple others were sent to the hospital with injuries.

Charges have been filed in a t-bone crash at a Chester County intersection Wednesday morning that left a mother of three, and recent newlywed, dead.

Tyree Mansell, 22, of Coatesville, is charged with homicide by motor vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and other related offenses.

Police say Mansell was driving a 2013 Kia Optima around 5:10 a.m. at North 8th Avenue and Lincoln Highway (Business U.S. Route 30) when he drove through a red light and slammed into a 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo driven by Monica Fiorentino, 45. The impact caused a loud boom, heard by witnesses.

Fiorentino was heading to work at the time, police said.

Fiorentino's damaged car came to rest against the sign for a nearby Walgreens store. Rescuers pulled her from the car and performed CPR in an attempt to save her life, witnesses said.

She was taken to Brandywine Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Mansell allegedly fled the scene of the crash on foot but was apprehended a short time later while hiding in the backyard of a home on the 700 block of East Lincoln Highway.

Those that knew Fiorentino called her a kind-hearted and well-mannered woman. Fiorentino recently got married and is known as a cook for the Coatesville community and homeless people in the area, family friends said.

Police spent hours examining the crash scene. The roadway reopened later in the morning. Both cars appeared to have front-end damage and debris was left scattered at the intersection.

Mansell remained jailed Thursday. Court records don't list an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

During the chase, Scaggs allegedly hit a telephone pole, a parked car and crashed through a fence on Hamilton Avenue.

Police say Scaggs' 4-month-old son and 1-year-old daughter were in the back seat.

FULLERTON (CBSLA) — The driver of a stolen Toyota Highlander which T-boned a Honda Accord in Fullerton Monday morning — killing its passenger and critically injuring the driver — may have been under the influence of drugs, police said.

The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Randy Wilkins of Long Beach.

The crash happened just before 10 a.m. in front of Charlie’s Best restaurant at Euclid and Valencia Drive. Police initially received reports that the vehicle was driving recklessly and erratically at Orangethorpe Avenue and Brookhurst Street, according to Fullerton police spokesman Lt. Jon Radus.

The crash occurred just minutes after those two reports.

“He was definitely on something. He was acting almost crazed. He looked heavily intoxicated,” said witness Maggie Montalongo.

The Toyota Highlander was reported stolen out of Long Beach two days ago. It was speeding eastbound on Valencia before broadsiding the Accord, Radus said.

Wilkins is in custody and being investigated as being possibly under the influence of drugs, police told CBS2.

Police have not identified the passenger who died at the scene or the woman who was driving the Honda.
