Late Wednesday night Metro police arrested a mother several hours after her toddler fell out her moving car in downtown Nashville.

Police arrested LarHonda McMillan near 17th Avenue North and Jo Johnson Avenue. She was booked on several felony charges, including child abuse, child neglect, reckless endangerment and DUI.

Late Wednesday afternoon, witnesses saw the woman's son, Ladarius McMillan, 2, fall out of the car near the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Lafayette Street.

The boy was rescued from the road by several witnesses as the driver of the car he fell out of drove away. The boy was transported to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

The boy was treated for cuts and bruises.

I think he's going to be ok. It could have really been a bad situation if not for the good Samaritan witnesses we had that jumped out of the car and drug him out of the street,” said Rickey Ollis of the Metro Police Department.

”He's just a happy go lucky kid. He's really a beautiful child. I can't believe that this is a mother that did this, but we'll see what happens.”

It took several hours for detectives to identify the boy.

Early Thursday morning, LarHonda McMillan explained to a night court judge how the incident happened--she said she's a single parent working third shift, struggling with a cocaine addiction and under a lot of stress.

She was being held in the Metro jail in lieu of $79,000 bond.
