Attempted Murder Suspect Now Accused of Stabbing Four
Marquise Harris, 24, is charged with trying to kill his sister and her friend. Now, he is in trouble again.
He's accused of stabbing four people at a state mental hospital Monday, including a doctor and a nurse.
Harris was charged in night court at the Metro Criminal Justice Center for the two attempted murders. He was sent to the state mental hospital, Middle Tennessee Mental
ealth Institute, in Donelson, by the medical staff at the Metro Jail on Memorial Day for a mental evaluation.
Hospital officials say everything was routine until Monday. Just before 11:00am Monday mo
rning Harris was in an interview room with a psychiatrist.
Hospital officials say he pulled out
a weapon made from a face plate on an electrical outlet and attacked five people. A psychiatrist was cut in the head and a nurse got it in the arm.
During the attack, Harris also allegedly cut a therapist and a psychiatric technician. Three of the victims were taken to Summit Medical Center and treated for their cuts.
Hospital officials say they are reviewing security procedures.
Each patient is assessed and evaluated when they first come in. Security measures are in place going from those evaluations and they're evaluated every day, assessed every day. This patient had been evaluated when he came in. There was no indication this was going to happen, said Tony Troiano of th
e Tennessee Department of Mental Health.
Harris appeared in night court Monday afternoon to face more charges. They include aggravated assault.
