October 20, 2015 2:08 PM

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A 42-year-old man who owned a grocery store in North Philadelphia has been sentenced to 30 months in prison. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Farhan Ali Abu Siam, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty to conspiring to traffic in USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and conspiring to commit wire fraud.

Siam admitted to purchasing SNAP benefits from customers of his now-defunct S&S Farmer’s Market, formerly located at 2722 Germantown Avenue.

He was also sentenced to three years supervised release and has been ordered to pay nearly $1.4 million in restitution to the USDA.
