'Son, don't blow up Australia'

THE father of a terror accused confronted his son over rumours he was going to "blow up Australia", a Melbourne court has been told.

The Victorian Supreme Court heard Mohamed Hammoud called his son Shoue to ask if he was in any trouble with police in December 2004.

"Someone come and tell me this morning that somebody dobbed you, you know what I mean. You are going to make a bomb and you are blowing Australia up and the police are after you," he said.

Shoue Hammoud denies the police have spoken to him and tells his father "no worries".

But the jury heard Mr Hammoud persisted and phoned his son back later that day.

"Stay away from those people. Stay away from them, I don't want you to get involved with anything please," he says.

Again Shoue Hammoud reassures his father.

Less than an hour later Shoue Hammoud's uncle rings to have his say on the situation.

The jury heard his uncle tells him to stay away from Abdul Nacer Benbrika, the alleged spiritual leader of the group, because he is "very dangerous".
