A jury took 4 1/2 hours Thursday to return guilty verdicts in the 2001 shooting death of a Glendale high school football player during a holdup.
Marcus Davis, 33, was found guilty in Maricopa County Superior Court in Phoenix of first-degree murder, armed robbery, burglary and misconduct with a weapon. He is one of two men who were accus
d of murdering Michael Olson, 17, on Dec. 14, 2001.
Olson had taken a part-time job at the Country Market in Glendale to earn money for Christmas. He was on his way to pick up his paycheck when he i
nterrupted a robbery. One of two masked gunmen shot him once in the upper body.
Four months later, Davis
and William Baldwin, 20, suspected of being the gunman, were arrested.
Davis will be sentenced Aug. 15 by Judge Jeffrey Hotham. He faces a sentence of natural life or life with no eligibility for parole for 25 years on the murder charge, seven to 21 years for armed robbery, two years for burglary (which stems from an October 2001 break-in at a Glendale gun shop), and six years for weapons misconduct. The latter sentences can all run consecutive to the life sentence.
Baldwin goes on trial June 30.
