School Brawl
West Oak Lane, Feb. 14, 2005 --Festering tensions boiled over into a huge brawl today at MLK High Shool in West Oak Lane. More than two dozen students were involved in the melee.
City and school police were stationed outside of King High School as students let out Monday afternoon. That, after a brawl in a main hallway during the changing of classes at about 9:30 this morning.
Ebony Tucker/10th Grade:"I was in the hallway trying to sell valentines day dance tickets. And everybody started fighting."
Deborah Cobia/10TH GRADE: "It was a free for all. All students started fighting. Everything got out of control."
Brandon Green/11TH GRADE: "They was stressing for everybody to get in c
lass so nobody gethurt. We went to class. School into orange code."

e meant the school was on lock down... no one changed classes or left the school until things were under control. Ultimately 25 students were suspended... 16 of them arrested for disorderly conduct. None were hurt badly. A knife was found in another area of the building. Authorities interviewed students to try to determine what sparked the melee.
Shyvine Lockett/10TH GRADE: "I heard it was from a party. A saturday night party and two groups coming at each other."
Jane Adams/KING HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL: "Students came into building that were at party over weekend and had altercation over the weekend with other students in the neighborhood. Brought that in to the building and it started up from there. We had no prior warning of anything."
