THE prosecution yesterday closed its case against 12 men accused of forming a terror cell in Victoria.

After 71 hearing days, Richard Maidment, SC, told the Supreme Court jury he was in a position to finish the prosecution case.

The trial was then adjourned until Tuesday to allow legal issues to be resolved before defence lawyers announce if they will offer evidence.

The court has heard the group, allegedly led by Abdul Nacer Benbrika, was bent on committing violent jihad.

The jury heard claims Mr Benbrika identified the 2005 AFL Grand Final, NAB Cup and Crown casino as potential targets.

An undercover officer also gave evidence and produced a video recording of him setting off an explosive a
s a demonstration to Mr Benbrika in bushland near Kilmore in October 2004.

Those pleading not guilty to being a member of a terrorist organisation are: Mr Benbrika, 48, of Dallas; Abdullah Merhi, 22, of Fawkner; Shane Kent, 31, of Meadow Heights; Majed Raad, 23, of Coburg; Aimen Joud, 23, of Hoppers Crossing; Ahmed Raad, 24, of Fawkner; Fadl Sayadi, 28, of Coburg; Ezzit Raad, 26, of Preston; Hany Taha, 33, of Hadfield; Shoue Hammoud, 28, of Hadfield; Bassam Raad, 26, of Brunswick; and Amer Haddara, 28, of Yarraville.

The trial continues.
