(WBBM NEWSRADIO) —A man and two women face felony charges after an Aurora Police officer was attacked, beaten, kicked and choked during a traffic stop late Monday, authorities said.

The officer pulled over a vehicle around 10:30 p.m. near Plum Street and Randall Road because the driver rolled through a stop sign, Aurora police said in a news release.

The driver began yelling obscenities out the window, and a passenger exited the rear of the vehicle. When the officer told the passenger she was under arrest for obstructing, the driver allegedly got out and said he would fight the officer if he touched her.

The officer said the driver also was under arrest, and the driver fled on foot. During the chase, the passenger and a second woman who had been riding in the vehicle followed the police officer, yelling obscenities, police said.

The two women then began striking the officer with their fists and feet. At one point, one of the passengers applied her forearm against the officer’s windpipe, choking him, police said.

Backup officers arrived and put the trio in custody.

Prosecutors charged Jennifer Taylor, 24, of Chicago; Sheba Taylor, 26, of Aurora, and Paul Sherrod, 28, of Aurora, with aggravated battery, among several felony offenses. Their bonds ranged from $50,000 to $75,000 after court appearances Tuesday.

“I am at a loss of words when an officer is physically attacked from something that would have been a simple traffic ticket,” Chief Kristen Ziman said in a prepared statement. “We will not allow our city to become a place where criminals feel emboldened, and lawlessness ensues.”
