A Las Vegas teen has died after he was beaten by a group of bullies for coming to the defense of a “smaller” friend who was thrown into a trash can, the student’s grieving dad said.
Jonathan Lewis, a 17-year-old student at Rancho High School, died last Tuesday — less than two weeks after he was savagely beaten by a mob of 15 kids, his father, also named Jonathan Lewis, confirmed to 8 News Now on Thursday.
“One of his smaller friends had something stolen by this group of 15, and they threw the small boy in the trash can, and our son confronted them and he was attacked,” according to a GoFundMe page set up by his family.
Alarming footage from the Nov. 1 attack — only blocks from Lewis’ high school — shows the teen confronting one of the alleged bullies before throwing a punch.
Seconds later, the mob of violent kids swarmed Lewis and began hitting and kicking the outnumbered teen repeatedly in the head as he lay defenseless on the ground.

A second, extended video of the heartless beatdown shows one of Lewis’ friends rushing to help as the violent bullies swarm around him.

The unidentified friend is seen frantically trying to rip away the 15 attackers before receiving a harsh blow to the back of the skull — forcing him to retreat from the madness for his own safety.

Some of the bullies attacking Lewis are then seen chasing his friend and punching him in the head until he falls to the ground.

Before the video cuts out, up to five of the bullies are seen surrounding Lewis’ friend as he tries to get back up, delivering a flurry of severe kicks and punches.

Lewis’ girlfriend reportedly gave a statement confirming her boyfriend was standing up for his smaller friend, the family shared.

“He’s a courageous young man,” his family wrote on their fundraising page.

Following the attack, police officers found Jonathan bleeding from the head.

Paramedics rushed to his aid, performing chest compressions on Lewis before transporting him to the hospital.

The teen was put on life support at University Medical Center, where he died last Tuesday.

The senior Lewis shared that he kept his son on life support for several days, holding out hope that he would wake up.

“I just love my children with all my heart, and it’s just unimaginable that we could ever come to this point,” Lewis’ father told 8 News Now.

Lewis’ father — who lives in Texas — said his son mainly kept to himself and had planned on moving to Austin to live with him before the tragic attack.

The father hopes the incident could be part of a conversation about youth violence in the city.

“Violence just begets more violence and these children don’t even know what they’re doing half the time,” his dad said.

Lewis' father said he hopes the students responsible for his son's death are able to come to terms with what they’ve done. 4

The father also shared that the family was told by investigators they plan to charge several students with murder in Jonathan’s death.

The Las Vegas Metro Police Department’s homicide unit is investigating the incident, but so far no arrests have been made, the outlet reported.

“I hope there’s a way that can find forgiveness in their heart and find a way to be able to come to terms with what they’ve done,” he said.

White Boy Lynched by Mob of 15 Savages After Standing Up to Bullies

Earlier this month, a teenage boy was attacked and beaten by more than a dozen people near a Las Vegas high school. He later died from the injuries he sustained from the lynching.

17-year-old Jonathan Lewis Jr. was attacked near Rancho High School on November 1, and died from his injuries on Tuesday as a result.
The boy’s father, Jonathan Lewis Sr., told 8 News Now that his son kept to himself, and only got into the fight because he was standing up for a smaller friend.
"A Las Vegas teenager beaten by a group of about 15 people near Rancho High School last week died on Tuesday, according to his father.
From what he understands, the altercation happened after “Jonathan stood up for one of his smaller friends,” Lewis said.

Las Vegas Review Journal reports:
From what he understands, the altercation happened after “Jonathan stood up for one of his smaller friends,” Lewis said.
“A couple (of people) attacked him, and they weren’t able to hurt him enough, and they all attacked him at once,” he said.
Lewis Jr. was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries on Nov. 1 after police officers found him about 2:05 p.m. bleeding from the head off of Searles Avenue and North 21st Street. The cross streets are about half a block east of Rancho High, reported the Metropolitan Police Department, which has not yet publicly identified the victim of the attack.
The child had been in a fight involving about 15 people and was taken to UMC while in critical condition, police said.

What a bunch of scumbag cowards.

“Violence just begets more violence and these children don’t even know what they’re doing half the time,” Lewis Sr. said. “I hope there’s a way that can find forgiveness in their heart and find a way to be able to come to terms with what they’ve done.”
“I just love my children with all my heart, and it’s just unimaginable that we could ever come to this point,” he continued.
The father explained that he kept Jonathan on life support for as long as possible, in hopes of saving him. However, the injuries were too severe to come back from.
“I think there’s just a failure of all of humanity to recognize that we need to be teaching our youth how to coexist,” he added.

While the Las Vegas Metro Police Department’s homicide unit is investigating the incident, there have not been any arrests made.
There is currently a GoFundMe account set up by the family, with a message from Lewis Sr.
It will amount to nothing I’m sure, but wtf I’m “mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it anymore”.
This is a link to a gofundme set up by his family and a message from his father about #JonathanLewis and why he was murdered.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - On Tuesday afternoon, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department held a media conference to provide an update on its homicide investigation after a Rancho High School teen student was severely beaten and later died from his injuries.
A Metro spokesperson announced that the department has eight suspects in custody who will be charged with murder in connection with Lewis’ death.

Homicide Lt. Jason Johansson provided details on the incident that led to the victim’s death, explaining that a fight occurred in an alley next to Rancho High School just after school let out on November 1. He said that a citizen found Lewis unresponsive after the beating and brought him back to the school.

The victim was taken to UMC where doctors determined that he had suffered “non-survivable head trauma.” Lt. Johansson referenced a video of the beating that has circulated on social media, calling it “void of humanity.”
He said that the fight was over a pair of stolen wireless headphones and possibly a vape pen, which were taken from friends of the victim. All parties involved agreed to meet in the alley to fight, according to police.

“As soon as a punch is thrown, ten subjects immediately swarm him,” he said. He added that the department was able to identify approximately ten subjects that were involved in the murder and eight of those have been “positively identified” as suspects.

Those eight suspects were taken into custody by LVMPD in participation with an FBI Criminal Apprehension Team. Nine search warrants were executed in total and investigators seized evidence including clothing seen in the video of the beating, as well as multiple cell phones.

Johansson stated that all of the suspects are between 13-17 years of age and that the process is underway for them to be charged as adults.
LVMPD will be releasing photos of two individuals who participated in the beating but have not yet been identified.

“There’s a high likelihood that there’s additional video out there that we don’t have,” he said, imploring anyone with information about the beating to contact the department immediately.
“Please don’t put your head in the sand,” he added regarding the topic of discussing the incident with children. He also said that there is “no evidence at this time” that the murder was a hate crime.

The lieutenant said that an autopsy was performed on the victim yesterday. Lewis donated his organs.
Police responded to a battery call at Searles Ave. and 21st St. near Rancho High School on Nov. 1 and found a student who was “battered and bleeding from the head.” He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and later placed on life support.

Father calls for justice after beating death of Las Vegas teen

The boy’s father told FOX5 that multiple members of his family have served in the military, and added that “this horrific tragedy is reflective of the divisive, conflict-based, uncaring state that our society and humanity is currently facing with how we interact with our community.”

He added that the family denounces violence “as a means to sociological conflict.” Information about a GoFundMe campaign for Jonathan is available here. Any comments about racism will be requested to be removed. We absolutely condemn racism and hate! Please be respectful of our son's memory in the comments and to everyone who has posted comments of support we're so deeply grateful and can't even begin to express how much it means to us!

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Three of the eight teenagers who face murder charges in connection with the deadly beating of a student near Rancho High School appeared in court Friday morning.

Dontral Beaver, 16; Gianni Robinson, 17; and Damien Hernandez, 17; made their first appearance in adult court Friday morning. Treavion Randolph, 16; will also appear in court at 1:30 for his initial appearance. The four will be tried in court together.

This appearance was more than two weeks after a fight broke out in the 1900 block of Searles Avenue near Rancho High School. Police later said the fight was over a pair of stolen wireless headphones and possibly a vape pen.

Jonathan Lewis, 17, was on the ground and not defending himself when he became unconscious, LVMPD Lt. Jason Johannson said.

Lewis died on Tuesday, Nov. 7 as a result of his injuries following the attack, the Clark County coroner’s office confirmed. His cause of death was listed as complications of multiple blunt force injuries. His manner of death was listed as homicide.

The murder was caught on a video that has since gone viral.

During a news conference on Tuesday, Nov. 14, Johannson said all the people involved — believed to be 10 — were students of Rancho High School. Johannson described a video of the incident as “void of humanity” and said there was no evidence the incident could be considered a hate crime.

As of Tuesday, police had identified eight of the 10, Johannson said. Police and the FBI arrested all eight on Tuesday morning. All eight are between the ages of 13 and 17.

The other four suspects are currently in the juvenile court system, waiting to be certified to enter the adult court system. That court date is scheduled for Dec. 6.

Metro police on Wednesday released photos of two additional “persons of interest” who can be seen on the video but have not yet been identified.

Steve Wolfson, the district attorney, told the 8 News Now Investigators there are other videos even more gruesome than the video readily accessible on the internet. He said it would be weeks or months before those videos would be made public.

Beaver, Robinson, and Hernandez are scheduled to next appear in court on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 8:30 a.m. They will remain in custody until their next hearing.

Las Vegas teens accused in beating death of classmate claim self-defense

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Four of the nine teens accused in the deadly beating of a classmate did not receive bail as expected during a court hearing Thursday morning. Initially, Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Nadia Woods planned to issue a bond for each defendant. The state was asking for a $250K bond for each defendant but the defense attorneys argued against that.

The four accused teens along with MASKED family members appear in Las Vegas Justice Court on Dec. 14, 2023. (KLAS)
Damien Hernandez, Gianni Robinson, Dontral Beaver, and Treavion Randolph face second-degree murder charges in the death of 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis who prosecutors said was attacked during a fight on Nov. 1, over some stolen items by a group of teens who deliberately stomped on Lewis’s head. The Rancho High School student died from blunt force trauma to his head and body, the coroner said.
Defense attorneys for the defendants argued a $250K bail was not fair because some of the defendants kicked or hit Lewis more or less times than other defendants and the bail amount should reflect that.

Damien Hernandez, 17; Gianni Robinson, 17; Dontral Beaver, 16; and Treavion Randolph, 16, all face murder charges in the death of Jonathan Lewis. (LVMPD)

The four teens are claiming self-defense because Lewis threw the first punch and a friend of Lewis’s allegedly had a knife, according to defense attorneys. Although the prosecutor conceded Lewis threw the first punch, the prosecutor added the punch didn’t warrant the violent attack that Lewis suffered. The prosecutor said six videos show the fight and will likely be used as evidence.

Judge Woods said she would issue a written order on bond next week for the defendants.

Although the four teens are in the adult court system, they are currently being held in the juvenile detention system for their safety. There are also five juveniles in the case that are awaiting adult certification. A 10th “person of interest” remains at large.

Lewis’s mother was in the courtroom and cried throughout the entire hearing.
