A carjacking last weekend in Webster Groves is the second “bump-and-rob” incident in the past three months.
The carjacking occurred at the intersection of South Rock Hill Road and Baker Avenue at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12.
No weapons were displayed and no one was injured, according to Lt. Jillian McCoy of the Webster Groves Police Department.

The victim told police that after stopping at the intersection’s stop sign, a dark colored Dodge Challenger with no visible license plate struck the rear of his vehicle. When the victim exited his vehicle to inspect the damage, two males exited the Dodge Challenger.

The victim described the driver of the Dodge Challenger, who was wearing a ski mask, as roughly 5-foot-11 with a thin build. He described the passenger of the Dodge Challenger to be in his late teens, roughly 5-foot-7, also of thin build.

The two Black males approached the victim, the driver saying he was “sorry.” The other male then suddenly entered the victim’s car, according to police. Both vehicles then fled the scene.

The Webster Groves Police Department is coordinating its investigation with surrounding agencies that have had similar occurrences.

Similar incidents have occurred in Webster Groves over the past few months. In August, police responded to a “bump-and-rob” in which a vehicle on South Elm Avenue was struck from behind and three masked individuals, one of them armed, exited their vehicle and stole the driver’s vehicle. Officers were unable to locate the suspects or the vehicle.
In September, police investigated the attempted theft of an SUV from the parking lot of PNC Bank located on West Lockwood Avenue near the corner of Allen Avenue in Old Webster.

:D In that instance, a man wearing a face mask got out of the vehicle and entered the driver’s side of the SUV that was parked in the lot, but an acquaintance of the SUV owner saw the suspect and prevented him from closing the door of the vehicle. A second witness positioned his/her vehicle behind the SUV, preventing it from moving. The suspect then ran back to his vehicle and fled. Officers were unable to locate the suspect or the vehicle.

In October, an attempted vehicle theft by two teenagers outside of Hotshots Bar & Grill in the Yorkshire Village Shopping Center resulted in a fatal shooting. The owner of the vehicle shot and killed one of the teenagers who was trying to break into his car on the night of Oct. 27. He told police the teen charged at him, and he fired in self defense.

Javion Bibby, 19, was shot and killed. The other teenager, 18-year-old Ronnie Jewett, was charged with multiple felonies, including second-degree murder because Bibby was killed as the result of a felony being committed.
Bibby and Jewett are believed to have been part of a larger, organized auto theft crime ring operating in the St. Louis area, according to police.

The Webster Groves Police Department is investigating these incidents and working with other local law enforcement agencies with similar incidents in an attempt to identify and locate the subjects responsible. Anyone with further information that could assist the department is encouraged to contact Lt. McCoy at 314-963-5407 or mccoyj@webstergrovesmo.gov.
