Former Caretaker Accused of Killing Man

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Two women were supposed to help an elderly man live a better life, but Friday, one of them was charged with stealing from him, and the other was charged with killing him.

Christian Webb, 28, was charged with first-degree murder, eight counts of forgery, one count of mistreatment of a dependent adult and one count of aggravated burglary, KCTV5's Sandra Olivas reported.

Angela Davis, 38, was facing two charges for forgery and mistreatment of an adult, San
dra said.

Thomas Winslow, 77, was found stabbed to death in his home off 86th and Haskell on Tuesday.

The Wyandotte County district attorney said Webb and
Davis were Winslow's former caretakers.

They prepared his meals, helped him get around because he was in a wheelchair and cleaned his home, but police uncovered documents that showed they allegedly also cleaned out his bank account, according to authorities.

"Obviously it's a complicated case in that it's unusual that you have financial crimes combined with homicide, and it's obvious this was a case where Mr. Winslow was being taken advantage of," said Jerome Gorman, the Wyandotte County District Attorney. "That's the very nature of the mistreatment of a dependent adult case. It can happen either physical abuse or financial abuse, and in this case, ... we're alleging there was financial abuse."

The district attorney claimed he could prove they allegedly stole as much as $10
,000 from Mr. Winslow, but he said they had just scratched the surface on the case, that they still were trying to go through more documents, and they thought they may have stolen much more than that, Sandra said.

The women were both in custody in the Wyandotte County Jail. Davis' bond was set at $20,000. Webb's bond was set at $250,000.

Caregiver finds body of disabled man, 78

Homicide investigators spent much of Tuesday combing through evidence after a 78-year-old man was found dead in his Kansas City, Kan., home.

By Tuesday evening, investigators had not ruled the death of Thomas Winslow a homicide. Details at the scene, however, led police to believe foul play could have been involved.

Winslow had lived at the corner of 86th Street and Haskell Avenue for several years, relatives said. He depended on a wheelchair.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Charges were filed Friday in connection with the stabbing death of a 78-year-old man.

Thomas Winslow was found dead inside his home at 86th Street and Haskell Avenue Tuesday morning. Winslow was dependent on a wheelchair and was unable to get out of bed without assistance, officials said.

The Wyandotte County district attorney said two women who used to care for Winslow now face charges.

Christian Webb, 28, was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, mistreatment of a dependent adult and eight counts of forgery.

Angela Davis, 38, was charged with mistreatment of a dependent adult and forgery.

Prosecutors said Webb is accused of writing checks worth about $10,000 from Winslow's account without his permission. Investigators suspect that Winslow had found out about the forgery, which is why Webb allegedly killed him.

Both Webb
and Davis are being held in the Wyandotte County Jail.
